Problem with getting cops involved is that now there's a record of interaction. This guy ever decides to come back, and you say f it and knock him around, he can try and charge you. May have a good chance at beating you in court too.
That, and the guy likely won't see more than a day in a holding cell. Shoot, they let guys caught with oz's out on promise to appear. Then get probation.
And now you gotta go to court too. I tell ya, it doesn't pay..

Dash cam last summer came in handy. Wife was coming home and saw a sketchy looking guy walk out of our driveway. she circled to the front and saw one of the ground floor windows was open. At the same time, I was calling her as the house alarm was paging my phone. The alarm's set up to call me, rather than an alarm company.
Told her to call 911 as she got a good look at him. The cops caught him 15 minutes later a few blocks away, even before the police dog they brought over had tracked him down. Patrol officer recognized him due to the unique combo of clothes/shoes/bag he had.
He had stuff from 2-3 other break ins that day with him. All stuff with no Serial numbers. Couple of LV purses etc. Only thing he took from our tenant? Her passport and some costume jewellery. He passed up on a full camera kit and Macbook that he had rifled through. Cops said IDs were more valuable.
Cops had a total hard on for the dash cam video of him leaving the property. not as good as witnessing him doing it, but it put him on our property within minutes of the break in, with the B&E tools, and stolen property. Not to mention it's video evidence.
No bail for him apparently, as he was in breach of conditions already the cops said. Who knows. We got the summons for the court case a few months later, but the day before court, the cops called and said he pled guilty. Chances are with repeat offenders like that, you'll likely not to have to go to court.

Fucking justice system man wtf.. I envy the states sometimes in situations like this where fucking peices of shit can continue breaking into peoples homes and stealing their shit.
Don’t have a garage at my house so if someone was to break in you’re right inside the living room or kitchen. If someone broke in while I was sleeping or some shit, I’m not exaggerating in the least that I will fucking shoot someone who is in my home while I am there. I’ll give them once chance and say if you take another fucking step or move im gonna shoot, and if you take that step, you’re gonna get shot.
It’s honestly absurd that anything comes of people protecting their own homes by any means nessacary from some fucking crack head. It’s just my wife and I so it’s a little less disturbing, but if you’ve got a family with kids and whatnot and some guy breaks into your house, you’re gonna be rattled for a long time whereas the sack of shit that broke in it’s probably just another day for them.

I've asked a police once about beating the shit out of someone that breaks in.
He said you are protecting your own turf, but to a extent you shouldn't beat him til he's dead lol. Like say you are home with wife, or wife and kids, you are protecting family and turf.
But you have to factor in, is it worth if the guy whips out a weapon like a needle or bites you during the altercation. These assholes don't got anything to lose.

Well u also gotta factor in that there's gonna be some prosecutor or family member of the crackhead whose gonna sue u for doing it. He doesn't need to win or have a legit case for u lose thousands in lawyer fees and missed days at work to goto court to plead ur case. Is it worth it? At that moment hell yeah, in the end probably not

If it ever got to that point I’d drag it into the media so hard to make light of the bullshit I’d hope the public opinion would be enough to sway against the party suing you.
There is no grounds imo for some sack of shit or their family to sue you if the guy has a record of similar crimes and now they finally ran into some resistance. If someone is willing to break into houses and get arrested time after time, violent crime is not a big leap from there.

Agreed, if he falls down the stairs well he's trying to assault you and his leg gets broken in the process that's just bad luck. His story is different like you assaulted him with a bat? Who are they going to believe? The Crackhead with a bunch of priors who just broke into someones home or the law abiding citizen who is in his home minding his own business? IMO it would be pretty damm tough for the shitbag to sue you.
I like to keep a 2' solid crowbar by my bed, if anyone asks my wife is kinky AF.

I like to keep a 2' solid crowbar by my bed, if anyone asks my wife is kinky AF. | This is where being really nice and co-operative with the responding police officer(s) would seriously help you out, as their statements will hold the most weight over yours or Mr. Hamburglar. That being said, the media has made this whole "suing you over defending your home" thing seriously overblown. If some crackhead is breaking into houses to pay for their next fix, they likely won't have the money, resources, or intelligence to hire a lawyer to sue you.
Personally, I'd rather take a lawsuit any day than risk me or my girlfriend getting hurt or worse. If someone's breaking into a my home, I don't know their intent. Are they there to steal my PS4, or murder me, or sexually assault my girlfriend? As such I plan to always assume the worst.
A cop buddy of mine said a good idea is to to keep a baseball bat in your bedroom, but with a catcher's mitt and ball. That way, if you ever have to use it, you're "defending yourself with a weapon of opportunity". In his words, "you're not OJ Simpson. They're not going to make you prove you know how to play baseball".

this happened during the day? | Yeah reflecting back, not sure it was worth the risk to get jabbed with a dirty needle over it. I wiped down the entire interior of my car knowing his dirty ass was in there.
It's a detached garage so he got in through the small door.
It was around late afternoon.

So what if someone has something like a machete or Kris (those asian daggers/swords) in their room? Theyve never taken it out in public or hurt anyone. They just have it. Like all the Asians I know usually have something pretty dangerous in their house lol.
Not saying kill the intruder but if you hurt him with something like that, can you get in trouble?
Or what if it was something standard like a kitchen knife from a block and the resident just knew how to use it? Cuz technically anything in your house could be a weapon if you're mad enough.
Personally, I feel if someone invades your home while you're there then that person has a gravely malicious intent and you should be allowed to protect yourself and your family at all costs, even if it means killing that person.
Usually someone who does a standard b&e isn't the type of person to want an altercation of any kind.
My mom and I had a house invasion some years ago and they never caught the guys. Now you can bet I have weapons inside my home and I have enough knowledge of hand to hand fighting to protect myself. All Victim Services does is offer therapy and I think they pay upwards of a year for a security system.
I've also had a guy try to enter my home by force when I had a gf over.....luckily the boys came out and scared him away. He was very obviously gripping something in his hand, something with a handle and a metal end..knife/screwdriver maybe? So maybe I'm just paranoid now but it does happen.
If someone has weapons in their house they shouldnt have to justify that. Jeez, confusing hahaha.
