Today is a big day for Lamborghini. Lambo had its world premiere of its SUV, the Urus, today.

This beast, which will be seen in the Lower Mainland soon thanks to the terrible drivers, C Lai's (mainlander housewives). :lawl:

Specs: 650 hp

Why just why..... Friggin sad. I cried a little when Maserati made the levientee or however you spell that overpriced Jeep Cherokee. Ferraris the last man out for the Italians now. Hopefully they'll remain true to their heritage

No man. The cayenne allowed Porsche to stay alive. It didn't improve their lineup in any meaningful way. That's why the old air-cooled 993's are still sky high expensive.

Lambo / Ferrari and Maserati doesn't have the problem of surviving. ThIs is just corporate greed for the sake of shareholders. In lambo case I'm sure the vw group is trying to recoup the billions lost through diesel gate.

Let the future come!
These vehicles are well engineered, and who knows what your needs may be in a few years. I like the option of a luxury suv. I have a 750m long, gravel driveway. My only option may be a luxo suv.

At least the Bentayga has an optional wine rack? Where am I supposed to put my vintage Chardonnay in this Lamborghini?

wat?
you must live in the wrong part of town. Downtown is swarmed with new G AMGs and Bentley SUVs. Tonight alone I spotted a silver 4x4 g500 in kits..
and last week spotted a G65 in south Granville. And there is more than one G65 in Van..

So, according to you, the new 911s are shit to drive and everyone wants a 993? What's a "meaningful way" anyway? care to elaborate?

Doesn't a RS member have one on order?

Yup. Compared to the 993 they have lost something in the interpretation of what a Porsche is. Go drive the latest carrera and then drive it back to back with the old air cooled one. It's like night and day. The old ones were very direct and analogue.

With the exception of the gt3rs's I don't really like their lineup. Most people will never have the experience of driving a 993 or older vintage. If they did I think they'll realise the difference.

It's from an Italian supercar company, I doubt it will be any more reliable than anything else made there. If you want a luxurious SUV there are already a mountain of options, so there's no point in buying this thing unless for some reason you want to be able to tell people you have a Lambo without ever showing it to them (since the second they see it they'll be disappointed).

Have you actually driven a 993? It may be the most overhyped sports car on the planet. The 997 I replaced it with at the time was a better car in literally every way possible except it didn’t have the Porsche “last air cooled” wanker card to play.

That entirely depends on what you're looking for in your "sports car". I have driven all sorts of Porsche, as far as a '89 Speedster, and by driven I don't mean valet parking. As lowdside mentioned, the 997 for example is far more superior car in almost every way compared to a 993, expect for the nostalgic factor maybe. But that alone or the "aircooled" feeling doesn't make the new 911s any lesser cars. The 993s feel underpowered IMO (have not tried TT) but they sure are pleasant to drive.

Italian design, with German management.
When the VAG took over Lambo, they actually made it a real car company. Ze Germans brought in inventory control, quality control, proper management and the concept of personal responsibility.

An old buddy of mine was an automotive genius, and was tasked with rebuilding a 25th anniversary Countach. He was having one hell of a time getting a wiring harness for the thing, because Lamborghini didn't keep very good records of that sort of thing. They literally had to go into the basement of the offices in St Agata, and finger through paper build copies that were poorly filed. It took him months to get the info he needed.

Long story short, Lamborghini ran out of Countach engines halfway through building the 25th anniversary Countach cars, so they threw in the new Diablo engines instead. Literally just tossed them in and made them work. I can't even think of an example that we could use, as it's just so asinine!

Now, from a coolness standpoint that's gangsta, for sure.
But it's a terrible way to run a company.
:fullofwin:

I'd still love to have this in my driveway one day.

Hehe 12-05-2017 09:48 AM

IMO Lambo is clearly missing the point of their brand and what to do with SUV.

I don't mind a Lambo SUV, but it should not be a fast car.

I mean, being a Lambo with its V12 engines and all, fast is given, relative to 99% of cars on the road, but they should have made it the most badass and road-trip worthy vehicle ever made, period.

Lambo was created to be that rebel to build the uncompromised sports car. If it's going to build an SUV, it might as well build the best SUV one can ever build when money is no issue, not the fastest (which it probably isn't).
