Where are you getting your wheels refinished? Or DIY?

I ran them year round, but they're a twin tube shock. Kinda garbage.

The STs? or Koni Yellow?

Ah I see. I do drive in the winter. Do you know if koni yellows have good corrosion residence as well? I'm tempted to just get new shocks since it's cheaper, and just hope that it's not too low.

Konis are the best mid range shock IMO. I prefer them to bilstein, and you aren't getting something better unless you step into thing like Ohlins, MCS, etc. (which are well beyond the budget, and need to be run as coilovers.)
Not sure what you mean about "hope its not too low" though. Your height isn't going to change if you just buy new shocks, its going to stay the same height as right now.

I figured since my shocks are blown, they'd be lowered than what it should be. So hopefully, it would raise it just a bit. I doubt it tho, I'd probably have to invest in new springs or a ground control coilover conversion kit (which at the GC pricing, might as well buy coils)

westopher 03-26-2018 09:52 AM

It won't adjust height. Springs are what support the weight of the car and determine height, shocks keep your car from bouncing back and forth uncontrollably when the springs are compressing/decompressing.
As for GC, they have full bolt up coilover kits, not just conversion. I'd probably take those over any variation of the ST, but they cost a fair bit more.

Best advice I can give you though is buy it nice or buy it twice. Every car I've ever owned I've purchased at least 2 suspension setups to find what I want due to being impatient. I'll probably end up buying a third soon for the m3.

bcrdukes 03-26-2018 11:46 AM

Ohlins :sweetjesus:

I prefer Koni over Bilstein for anything mid-range. What westopher said is correct - getting new shocks will not raise or lower your car; it's the spring that does, or a coilover setup that will.

I ran Koni Yellows as part of my coilover setup for three years in Vancouver. They were perfectly fine when I sold the car three years into my ownership. Car was daily driven, for what it's worth.

STI is sold, time for a new project. Just threw some sealant on it and threw on some $100 eBay mirror caps during the 2-3 hours of sunshine we had yesterday.

Yaaaaaaas, great pickup, now explain the garage please + more pics

320icar 03-26-2018 05:13 PM

Damn! I didn’t realize the fenders where so swore on the m2! Guess when it’s in white it’s not as noticeable.

Yeah it was at BCIT haha. Her bike was stored near there and I wanted her to go around in a parking lot to get used to it again before heading back home

i would skip ohlins unless you are going for a custom setup / higher end like the TTX

entry level ohlins are very mediocre and often too soft - so you'll need to spend some money to get it valved properly

bilstein are great for street - really comfy

I would rank MCS/Penske/JRZ in top category - Ohlins will be in here too if you are not going for off the shelf setup

Getting the rear fenders rolled in two weeks because of rub with a wide setup (19x10), but at least the suspension is in for the season!

Haven't posted for a while in this thread because I didn't have a car lol. Finally picked up the new X3 last week which I ordered a few months ago, going to use it as my DD. Very impressed with the overall quality. Also got rid of my Huracan last year but my Performante will be arriving in July and I also ordered the new G Wagon which should arrive by end of the year.
