lol. I still see Nov and Dec 2017 decals at work and on the road almost regularly lately, for some reason. I won't test drive without the repairman plate. My coworker was caught in Aug with a May decal, had to pay some $700 fine, i heard from him.
OP should feel lucky that the officer gave you a chance not ticketing you. They could have forced you to tow the vehicle off the road right at that moment.
Expired is expired, doesn't matter if it's 1 second past midnight or a day past.

So you're complaining about a $45 ticket when the REAL problem is that you were driving with no insurance?
If you got into an accident during that period of time, you wouldn't be covered at all. And you would be drowned in lawsuits to the point where you'd be praying to have $45 left in assets. Which would be more than likely if you display that shitty attitude of yours to everyone you meet.
Just learn your lesson and keep your insurance updated. Like others have said, if you got caught by a "real" officer you would be paying 5x as much and probably be impounded as well. All in all you would be on the hook for just under $1000. No need to hate on people with jobs just because you failed to do yours.

I got a ticket for $70 or so for forgetting to put my new sticker on. Guess what I did? I paid it because I realized it was my fucking fault for forgetting to put the sticker on.

So buddy here would rather pay a $598 ticket and having car towed for no insurance, than to pay $48 for a bylaw parking ticket.... Cause bylaw officers never do nothin' good for nobody
Is this what I'm reading here?

Would be funny if OP still didn't renew his insurance and a police officer tickets him... Then OP comes here and say they should be doing their jobs and catch real crimes instead

I think we're not getting the full story.
How OP says it went down:
-Got a ticket for no parking ticket being displayed
-Spoke to a city bylaw officer passing by, who told him the ticket was issued as a warning for him that he didn't have insurance
-I guess the story is that they wanted to have mercy on him, and give him a $45 parking ticket instead of a more expensive insurance ticket and tow?

I love how everyone is saying that it's the OP's fault for driving without insurance, yet dismissing the issue that a meter maid issued him a ticket for expired insurance.
Typical RS drive for an ego boost.

It is a non moving violation, parking a uninsured vehicle on the street.
If you were to drive away and RCMP catch you, you would have a bigger ticket and car impounded.
Think of the expired decal ticket as a warning? I would rather get a $45 ticket than to have my car impounded. https://www.richmond.ca/__shared/ass...0231748848.pdf | It is his fault. And he rightfully received a ticket from a bylaw officer.

Typical RS drive for an ego boost. | He drove without insurance, and got a ticket for being parked on a public street without insurance, from a bylaw officer, for breaking a bylaw, and was lucky he didn’t get caught breaking the actual law, when he was doing that.
I got the ticket for expired plates even when my car was insured, because when I renewed it was pouring rain.
He’s paying the same amount of money I paid, for a bylaw violation, when he actually was doing something far more illegal. I’d say he should consider himself pretty lucky.
Fuck even I was only mad for like 30 seconds and I’m a fucking snapcase.

He has a friend who got into a huge accident exactly a day after her insurance expired, and they didn't cover her. She has a very massive debt according to my boss.
So like I said, set up a reminder a month before the insurance expires. It's not like ICBC won't renew your insurance before it's up.

The number of people with expired insurance or invalid insurance is insane.

Typical RS drive for an ego boost. | The OP said the ticket was for: Quote:
On the ticket it says, "expired ticket, failure to display valid ticket"
| On the City of Richmond's bylaw website, it specifically states that the permit is only valid on licensed vehicles.
His vehicle was uninsured and unlicensed as the OP allowed it to lapse, ergo failure to display valid ticket (which is letting OP off easy, as mentioned multiple times in the thread).

Tip for who gets expired insurance by-law tickets in New West; If you call the number in the back of the ticket and tell them you have valid insurance and can prove it by faxing in documents to them, they can reduce the ticket in half ($50 -> $25)
