Can richmond city by law ticket for expired car insurance?

So today I parked outside aberdeen mall to avoid the shitty drivers in the parkade, paid for an hour parking ticket. Came back to my car under 1 hour and noticed a ticket from richmond city by law officer. On the ticket it says, "expired ticket, failure to display valid ticket" .

I came across another by law officer walking around, he called in to check to cancel ticket for me because I had proof of the parking ticket which I thought the ticket was originally for and to which he thought also. Turns out it was because I had forgot to renew my insurance which expired yesterday. I am not defending the fact that I forgot to renew the insurance, but the fact that the meter maid decided to ticket me based on expired insurance when usually a police officer would give me a warning or ticket.

I could care less if an actual cop gave me a ticket. Its the fact these piece of shit meter maids walk around trying to get into others business.

In the end, is it his problem to give me a ticket for insurance even though I had a valid parking ticket? Should I dispute it. On the ticket says nothing about expired insurance. I have no problem paying it but I dont want the proceeds going to meter maids. Fuck them

not to mention if anything was to happen, you wouldnt be covered.

If you dispute it, what are you going to say in court when they ask why you were on the road with no insurance. (then fines you).

id say just take it as a very light warning fine.

Don't call them POS, man. They're people, too. They have a job to do. Then at the end you say, fuck them.

On a side note, was she even remotely hot? As in, Lovely Rita, Metah Maid? A la The Beatles.

Lovely Rita, meter maid
Nothing can come between us
When it gets dark I tow your heart away
Standing by a parking meter
When I caught a glimpse of Rita
Filling in a ticket in her little white book
In a cap she looked much older
And the bag across her shoulder
Made her look a little like a military man
Lovely Rita, meter maid
May I inquire discreetly
When are you free to take some tea with me?
Rita!
Took her out and tried to win her
Had a laugh and over dinner
Told her I would really like to see her again
Got the bill and Rita paid it
Took her home, I nearly made it
Sitting on the sofa with a sister or two
Oh, lovely Rita, meter maid
Where would I be without you
Give us a wink and make me think of you

A song for every occasion............ helps one roll with the punches. Sad, but life sucks and then you die.

You can always try to dispute it and give them some hardship stories, which I'm sure you can come up with. Maybe they will reduce it to just a warning. It's probably too late. If you had pleaded then, you may have stood a chance. Anyway.....................

EDIT: Wait! How much did they fine you? If it's just a parking ticket, damn, thank your lucky stars. That would be considered a warning in itself.

the meter maid was a guy. They do nothing good for the public so there's no reason for me to respect them. $70 fine $45 if paid early before 28 days. I rather pay $145 ticket to cops then to give the maids a single cent. They're worse than panhandlers .

My entire vent is the fact hes not a police officer who usually deals with expired insurance.

Yeah, that's fine I rather pay a ticket officers give me. I hate meter maids cause they sit in their cars and watch you and wait for you to leave and come check for a ticket or check your plates.

Yes, they can issue fines for expired insurance decal.
It is a non moving violation, parking a uninsured vehicle on the street.

If you were to drive away and RCMP catch you, you would have a bigger ticket and car impounded.

Think of the expired decal ticket as a warning? I would rather get a $45 ticket than to have my car impounded.

if you're in court disputing the parking ticket, they can't retroactively throw on additional charges while you're defending that charge ....afaik

You can just say you forgot to renew insurance, but nobody fined you for that, so that's that, end of story. What you ARE disputing is the ticket, which says he parked without paying, which he in fact did pay for and has proof of, so the ticket I think is fully disputable.

I hope you're kidding. Can you imagine the chaos if there was no parking enforcement? Fire lanes would be clogged up, people would park all over the damn place... it'd be like Aberdeen parking lot all over the city

Piuyi is correct, with proof you can dispute the ticket with the receipt. You can probably just go to city hall where you pay and just show the proof to have it dismissed, if not then dispute it in front ot a judge.

Its funny how the law officer didnt impound your car for having no insurance though.

Meter maid could have called a tow truck, impounded your car, or called an officer to ticket you for no insuramce.

In the end you got a disputable happy meal.

Municipal tickets can actually be re-issued if they want. They have up to 6 months after the offence date. So if the officer really wants to, he can issue a new ticket.

A question you should find an answer to is, will the judge issue you a ticket for driving with an expired insurance, since you will be admitting to it. And if so, will the cost of that be greater than the ticket issued by the meter maid.

I think you're confusing parking bylaw officers with parking lot attendants.

OP keeps saying its police officer job to issue him no insurance ticket. Seems like to me, if a police officer did issue him a ticket, OP will be like they should have better things to do such as arrest bad guys.

He is probably thinking they are all like Diamond Parking or Impark. Sit back and wait for you to violate. I think they have better things to do.
