I think if you read the article the girl slipped, the other 2 were trying to save her... it’s a tragedy, I’m sure they didn’t mean to fall off a rock but misguaged how slippery it is? Police said many people fall into those pools every year as well as dogs and the one they were in is not banned access... so.... I don’t know, some of you guys go ahead and celebrate the death of other humans then I guess if that’s your thing *shrug*
So what if they died taking risks? Mountain climbers take risk and die and people mourn them, F1 drivers take risks and Senna et. Al. Are revered as heroes, motorcyclists are super risky and everyone cries if they die...... it was their job and they died doing it, it’s just easy to backlash on because social media is easy to hate on and it’s currently seen as kind of douchey? I hate it too, don’t even use anything except Facebook, but I don’t really see why these guys get scoffed at for taking risks and losing their lives when so many other professions and people with hobbies do that every day.
I tried, but I guess I didn't do a very good job of not making it sound like I was happy these people died, or that I was celebrating their death. My reaction is more like "meh, they died doing something they knew would lead to their death.. They HAD to have expected it"
And on top of that, they went around destroying (or at least endangering) very important ecological landmarks... So they won't be doing that anymore either.
Also a comment on social media, and how it encourages dumb people to do even dumber things for attention.
I hope none of that makes it seem like I am happy someone died. If it was a guy walking his dog, I would be very sad. With these kids, like I said, it's more like they do it all the time and it is pretty much an extended suicide in order to gain attention from strangers (and maybe make some money, not sure if they had sponsors other than their rich parents).

YOLO = You Only Live Once.......... live life to the fullest.
YODO = You Only Die Once..........
You court death, play Russian Roulette, one day it gonna catch up with you. Nobody is celebrating their deaths. Tragic and somewhat sad, but there are other tragedies like the Humboldt bus crash that saddens me 1001 times more.
just my two bits

Formula drivers are highly trained professionals working in a controlled environment
most climbers take calculated risks by using safety equipment, aren't doing it for Internet validation nor are they deliberately destroying ecosystems that take centuries to form
meanwhile rooftoppers/illegal base jumpers have killed innocent bystanders walking underneath
the guys in question are SAR baits chasing click dollars...not just wasting resources but risking volunteers' lives...acted like gigantic assholes on the international stage and degraded local cultures (see Holocaust photo) certainly doesn't help with their sympathy case
i'm not celerating that young lives were wasted and families forever changed...but I doubt i'll lose sleep either

To be fair, the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin is overrun by idiots taking smiley selfies and posing. These guys are hardly the only ones that do this. They (and all the others) probably know exactly what this place means but don't give a shit. Other Asian tourists I've seen doing this there probably don't understand the significance of it or give a shit either - I saw a Chinese tourist do a Nazi salute in front of the Berlin Wall FFS. I wanted to smack that idiot so badly. Shit like that gets you arrested in Germany.
Hate to always pick on millennials, but didn’t they do a study fairly recently where a lot of them even knew what the Holocaust was? I’ll try to find it...
that's on the education system, and to some degree the parents
but i highly doubt any functioning adult who's half away across the globe in a war memorial is 100% clueless/oblivious to its meaning
and oppressed Chinese citizens who cannot criticize their own gov't back home has to vent it out somewhere

[QUOTE=melloman;8909930]The younger generation finds it more appealing to do insane, risky, dumb things to get likes which will get them revenue. For me personally, I've stopped looking at social media other than for news and current events.
Play dumb games, win dumb prizes.
Unfortunately this one led to not just the death of one, but to the death of three.
/QUOTE]
Depends I seen a ton of people on youtube not doing dumb shit and still got a ton of audience. Some actually help/guide you. There are lot's of DIY channels that teach you how to fix shit around your house/cook/building shit etc etc....
While any death is unfortunate, seeing that two fewer people will be causing damage and disrespect to the world seems like a good thing overall.

gofundme really needs to end, all it seems to do is provide money to selfish assholes.

The problem is most people don't realize the consequences extend far beyond their own death. Their friends, family, emergency workers, witnesses, and anyone who may try to help are going to be impacted as well.

For sure some questionable decision making at times, but nobody deserves to die... tragic accident. RIP.
I'd say intentionally damaging multiple fragile ecosystems and disrespecting memorial sites isn't even close to being offset by helping a few friends out.

The average person In India or China probable does more harm to the environment then these guys ever did.

No it's a fact. Poor people are too busy trying to survive. Asian kids are to busy studying. Middle class white kids have a lot of free time but not the resonances of rich kids so they make do with what they had.

err..I think you have this ass backward. Per capita, another Canadian brought into this world has a much higher ecological footprint than another Indian or Chinese.

Can I make the same "fact" based statements regarding religion?
Young, White Men Dominate Extreme Sports
Skateboarding is beginning to attract non-white athletes.
The typical action athlete is young, white and male, and most tend to have gregarious, sensation-hungry personalities. Indeed, young men in their late teens and early 20s are “a dominant force” in most extreme sports, with the average age of male skateboarders, snowboarders, artificial-wall climbers and in-line skaters being 14, 19, 20 and 20.5 years, respectively. 1
A full 89 percent of snowboarders are white, and many are upper-middle-class. Indeed, some minority athletes say that money is a serious bar to participating, said Holly Thorpe, a snowboarder and lecturer in sport and leisure studies at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. 2

Somewhat surprised to see Manic generalising about race here
I'm not saying it's a bad thing most Asian/brown parents when I was growing up would not their kids fly off jumps with there bikes. Moms would be scared kids would get hurt, Dads would be scared the bike would get damaged. Immigrant parents and people from poorer countries are more focused and education and keep a roof over your head. Ever watch Teen jeopardy Asian kids always get killed in the pop culture categories. Indian kids dominate spelling bees.

I bet you none of those Indian kids know how to ride a skateboard.
Funny in my BMX "crew" growing up in nanaimo, IIRC we white kids were the minority. We were mostly indian friends, vietnamese, one chinese kid and a FN kid in our group
Just an anecdote, but I suppose I could call it a "fact" like you did
