Rick Fox says Pro gamers Are Athletes. I'm not going to argue with Rick Fox.

I think this stadium is similar to the size of kitchen stadium.

I wonder if they will have a beer league or a 35 and over seniors division. RS could have a team. When they play you could have a car meet and watch the team play.

Money has already been going in. It's one of the top trending young industry. Incredibly high margin.

Money in the billions is not enough for RS.

I disagree. It’s a competition between people that involves a huge amount of time, dedication, passion and skill to become good enough to be a professional.

But it’s definitely the least sport of the sports lol

As per dictionary.com:

"an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature"

Calling "gaming" a sport is an insult to professional athletes who spend their lives training, eating a strict diet, and getting into the best physical shape possible in order to excel at their given sport.

Meanwhile, these gamers sit in front of a screen playing games for hours on end while nourishing themselves with cup noodles and bubble tea. I'm not calling their gaming skills into question, but to compare gamers to athletes who play sports is misleading.

Professional athlete Rick Fox disagrees with you.

No it's more like your local hockey arena.

Raid3n 08-02-2018 05:15 PM

it's the pacific coliseum of esports lol.

Speed walking is an Olympic sport.

GS8 08-02-2018 06:00 PM

I bet hard on Pachinko tournaments

Verdasco 08-02-2018 09:01 PM

why the fuck is this forum so itty picky about comparing it to a "sport"

like who gives two shits about complaining on the internet. This thread feels like a twitter section on ESPN tweeting about esports.

if it brings entertainment and the company can sustain itself, so be it. Fun for people being involved and fun for people watching.

but tell me guis, how come esports betting is allowed on most betting websites (pinnacle sports betting for example)

I'm not sure if you just don't know what golf is or you're trying to make a bad joke.

If you aren’t doing something physically active you aren’t playing a sport IMO.

is golfing a sport?
is formula racing a sport?

e-sports typically takes on an insane level of team coordination

if chess is a sport then gaming can definitely be classified as one
sports =/= aerobic, burning lots of calories

LOL i was about to say the same...

Hondaracer 08-03-2018 08:39 AM

Imo it’s not even close to a sport.

Also mentioning the conditioning team work etc. these people are playing games that are less than 3 years old. So your entire “career” is 3 years old or less. It took you that long to get to that point.

Actual “professional athletes” have spent their entire lives hoaning their craft whether that’s a tiger woods or Sidney Crosby etc or even some shitty CFL player. Their entire lives whether they are playing or not, off season or not, is dedicated to their sport.

Not to mention most of the “e athletes” look like they couldn’t even carry their own computer into the venue if they had to. Dem basement dwelling athletes

In terms of being an actual athlete, yea, speedwalking is way more of a sport than gaming. Look at the speed walkers in the olympics etc. they are ripped as fuck. Could probably compete in other disciplines etc.

Given enough time you could train a Sidney Crosby to be a top 100 gamer in the world. On the flip side you could never train a gamer who has never skated to even play in a men’s league.

yray 08-03-2018 09:59 AM

guys who think golfing is not a sport hasn't realized the amount of dedication these guys put to the game to get "pro"

freakshow 08-03-2018 10:06 AM

So unless an activity is performed at a world world class level, or you've trained your whole life, it can't be considered a sport? So when people some rec volleyball, i guess they're not playing a sport.

Your logic is going to fall apart very quickly..

Hondaracer 08-03-2018 10:10 AM

You are sitting at a computer..

whitev70r 08-03-2018 10:19 AM

To their credit, I've seen some do a few jumping jacks before a tournament as a warm up.

Hondaracer 08-03-2018 10:26 AM

Haven’t doctors from the heart and stroke foundation and doctors worldwide been claiming for he last 10 years or so that sitting, and specifically sitting at a desk all day at an office job is worse than smoking for killing people?

So now you do this and get paid for it and it’s called a sport? lol..

As (insert typical Dota champ gamer dude) would say, GG?

I will add that the competition aspects, the nature of a challenge, etc etc is “sporting” sure. But it’s not a sport.

yray 08-03-2018 10:31 AM

You can take any unfit 20 year old put him/her through a training/ diet regime for a period of time and they can be ripped as fuck too. Furthermore, some gamers are unfit, some are fit. Not all of them are fat slob. I doubt it is even the majority.

No need to look down on people. These people get to make a living doing what they love while contributing to society, in the same way that any other sport athlete do. That's a true blessing in life.
