IMO, it's not a "sport"... but none the less, it's serious business when your hobby can draw this kind of attention though.

My personal definition of a sport is a game that involves physical exertion where two individuals (or more) directly interact against each other.

There isn't physical exertion in video gaming or chess or poker, so IMO, it's not a sport. It's a game.
There is physical exertion in golf but you're not directly interacting with each other's play. IMO, it's a competition, like track and field.

You mean the 300lb linebacker that can sprint 40 yards in 4.6 seconds?

Mike Hull, who put up 31 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press on Saturday, ran a solid 4.68 in the 40 yard dash on the day. His bench press numbers were significantly higher than the rest at his position. The fastest 40 time of the day went to LSU's Kwon Alexander, who recorded a time of 4.55 seconds.
Did you know that you're slowly turning into manic?
That's not the kind of person you want to be compared to...

inspiring health and sportsmanship, involving kids in the community, donating time and money back into causes related to hockey, etc.

i'm sure the impact somone like Crosby has far outweighs even some researcher or doctor who spends time toiling on issues that are minute in the grand scale of things, and who may make as much, if not more than the pro athlete.

I'm sure some of them are in decent shape, but then there's also the guys that can barely "jog" out to the line.

Some of which is no different from any other celebrity, and all is made a hell of a lot easier by being paid loads of money to do not much of anything. None of which is achieved when he's on the ice. He's simply an entertainer, no different from any other entertainer when you boil it down. If him or hockey never existed it wouldn't matter, because people would just be entertained by something else.

Yes, the guy visiting kids in the hospital is clearly more important than the people actually coming up with the treatments for them.

Call it whatever you want. everyone is now trying to now profit off e-sports. A League of Legends franchise costs 13 million US. Billionaire sports team owners are buying them up. The NBA has started its own E-league.
