I won’t lie. I had no clue elections were happening. Family in hospital, wedding and honeymoon.... I finally looked at Port Coquitlams mayoral candidates this evening, and it’s scared the shit out of me. Thank god it looks like the only qualified candidate, despite looking like he’s 25; won. Next time I’ll be more in the loop. Jesus.

^ Developer's money couldn't save him?
Same as in Port Moody, some 28 yr old Anti-development (of an old saw mill on the Waterfront in PM) beat out the incumbent.

Vancouver was less than 1000 votes from getting it's first Asian Mayor.
Council is all white, 8/10 are women. |

Never... council is all women... they’re just going to argue and backstab each other all day and then blame everything that went wrong/didn’t get done on the 2 guys |

In Port Moody's case, Vagramov was selling himself as a mayor who would slow down the pace of densification, as well as protecting greenspace in the municipality. It was a narrow victory, but the Port Moody also had the highest voter turnout among the Tri-Cities. So I think it is fair to say that the constituency have spoken, and a slower pace of development & densification is exactly what they wanted.
As mentioned in this thread earlier, through my personal experience, I have found Clay to be too pro-development. I am glad that the majority of Port Moody voters felt that way too.

Another result that I have found to be very amusing is how badly Hong Guo lost in Richmond: https://www.richmond-news.com/electi...lts-1.23470081 Code: Malcolm Brodie* 30452
Roy Sakata 7942
Donald Flintoff 4204
Hong Guo 2940
Lawrence Chen 1260
Cliff Wei 594 I wonder what happened to her backers...? |

There’s at least 2939 other totally insane people in Richmond (assuming Hong Guo voted for herself hahaha).... they’ll lick their wounds and come back stronger than ever next time I’m afraid.

"However, due to a corrupted memory stick, ballots from City Hall advance voting on October 6 have to be counted again. This is expected to take some time."
What if that "corrupted" stick gives Hong 27,513 votes.

I wonder what happened to her backers...? | Brodie has been mayor since 2001 and no one came remotely close to him, he was the safest incumbent, in the region with the highest Asian population! Surprised there isn't a limit to the number of terms in office for mayor.
And the trustee that got elected is Pro SOGI ... another surprise because of high Asian population which generally is conservative on that issue.

1. replace the RCMP with a Surrey PD.
2. kill the LRT project and focus on skytrain to Langley.
3. free parking>?>>

lol.. yah right... | I don't see how a Surrey PD would be better off than the current RCMP. Even if he can pull it off, more than likely it'll mean a good number (majority?) of the currently deployed RCMP officers transferred into the new SPD. So it'd still be the same stuff, just under a different label, and what good does that do?
There is appetite to rescind the LRT plans among Surrey residents, and I can at least see McCallum doing what he can to slow / stall / cancel it. If he wants his Surrey mayor job to last anything more than just another single term, it is what he'd have to do. But scrapping LRT plans is actually the easy part. Getting more Skytrain service is a whole other story. Given how TransLink works, I personally can't see how the campaign promise can achieve any meaningful results in a single term.
