Think Danielle Smith will match Ford here and add a 25% surtax to oil? LOL. Ha. Never. We know which team she's on.
FWIW, we should actually put a surtax on oil b/c the US doesn't really have an alternative to our oil (at least not a short term one). It would really fuck shit up down there.

Doesn't seem like Alberta has any choice if the Federal gov't goes ahead with it. They can make a huge fuss about it though.

ttps://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/article/doug-ford-says-ontario-will-slap-export-tax-on-electricity-it-supplies-to-us-if-tariffs-persist/
According to Doug Ford, car plants in the U.S. will close very soon:
Auto plants will close
Ford’s previously told CNN that U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs will have devastating impacts on the U.S. auto manufacturing sector, suggesting that assembly lines could “shut down” in the United States within a matter of days.
Ford made the comments during an interview with CNN on Tuesday morning.
“We are going to continue seeing, in the U.S., plants close, assembly lines shut down,” the premier said.
“It will only last eight to maybe 10 days at the max and then you are going to see auto plants being shut down.”
Speaking later in the day, Ford acknowledged that there will be plant closures on both sides of the border.
“This is unnecessary and we do have to retaliate and I apologize to the American people. It is not you. It is your president that is causing this problem,” Ford told CNN.
“He’s going to create job losses, inflation is going up, the market is dropping. Gas prices are going up, groceries are going up.”
Ford also announced Tuesday that Ontario will be pulling U.S. alcohol products from LCBO shelves in retaliation.
“We buy from 35 states 3.600 products,” he said. “They are coming off (the shelf).”
Ford said the U.S. president continues “moving the goalposts” in terms of his demands, noting that he has frequently changed his story about what is motivating the tariffs.
“They (Canadians) are absolutely livid. They are furious because we look at the United States as our family,” he said.
Ford reiterated that he will “use every tool in the toolbox” to protect Ontarians and Canadians.
“I have never seen patriotism run so wild across our country, right down to the grocery aisles,” he said.

Love him or hate him but Trudeau has been doing a pretty good job since he said he was quitting. He's putting in more effort in his last weeks than anytime I ever put in notice. Now that the Russian funded propaganda machine that propelled the Cons to first place is sputtering (maybe they got their money's worth with Trump) it seems Trudeau is enjoying the job more. I almost wouldn't mind if he sticks around longer.

I'd say Turd tends to thrive and do better on big ticket items than he is on the daily operations and making the country run. During COVID, he did not hesitate to put those support programs in place, and that really saved a lot of people. And now that we are facing down the challenge from the Orange Bully, Turd is able to step up again to set the tone.
For the everyday stuff, he is horrible and inexcusably useless. But when the big moments come, he does an acceptable job.

It seems like Trudeau is a good crisis leader, able to make decisive decisions that can navigate the problem.
Kind of like hiring a CEO that's good at restructuring, or bankruptcy. Once you are out of that timeframe you mutually part ways and hire a day-to-day type of CEO to run the business.

It's the same as any person leaving a job where everyone has just been shitting on you constantly. You are free, you fear no consequences and you can finally speak your mind. He could have easily made this personal but he didn't. He spoke eloquently and in a matter of fact kind of tone which is exactly what we needed in a moment like this. There's plenty of twitter posts expressing the same sentiments and even from Conservative voters who have never liked him.
Pretty simply put, either you're Team Canada or you're not. It's clear as day right now who's who.

And what other choices would they really have?

Uhh isn't Smith joining a "delegation" to meet with orange turd? Last I saw her and Saskatchewan premier are not putting retaliatory tariffs in place?

I haven't paid too much attention on how Alberta is participating in our counter-tariff efforts, but Smith has at least touted the Team Canada line in support of Turd's response, going even as far as calling the Trump tariffs an unjustifiable economic attack on Canadians and Albertans, and how it is in violation of USMCA.
Joining delegations and such to meet the Orange Bully or other senior staff, governors, and such is not a problem, even if she is only interested in asking for carve outs for the Alberta-related sectors. For the time being, I'll settle for her not picking fights with Ottawa. She is supposed to make announcements on Alberta's response soon too.

How can people be so fucking stupid and continue to vote in these crooks?
Healthcare privatization rarely leads to improved quality of care and leads to negatively impacting access. The empirical evidence and real world examples to this are easily confirmable, yet these stupid bootlickers vote for these same assholes hook, line and sinker. It's fucking baffling to me.
It's the same ideology PP and his shitty party are looking to do federally, and exactly what Trump and his swamp are actively attempting in the US.

"Public healthcare has too much admin costs"
Proceeds to multiply admin costs by 10 for privatized healthcare.

Cost per person
Canada $6,319 (2022)
USA $12,555 (2022)
Life expectancy
Canada 82.6 years
USA 76.3 years
Maternal mortality rate per 100000
Canada 11 (2020)
USA 33 (2021)
Like it's not even close. Pay more get worse, by every single metric.
