Maybe prevents that guy from stealing spots in the future. Shows people that they're are repercussions for your actions.

That's the problem with today's litigious society. People abuse the fact that you can't do shit about a situation and take advantage. It might not be the legally just thing to do, but you all know deep down the kid deserved it.
