“Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke,” the statement reads. “He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”
Perry, who starred in Beverly Hills, 90210, had been hospitalized on Wednesday, his publicist said.
Arnold Robinson told The Associated Press that the 52-year-old actor was “currently under observation” at the hospital.
Paramedics responded to a 911 call at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the Sherman Oaks section of Los Angeles and took a patient to a hospital, the city’s fire department said. Public records list the address as Perry’s.
Born and raised in rural Fredericktown, Ohio, Perry was tapped for heartthrob status along with Canadian Jason Priestley on 90210, which ran from 1990 to 2000.
Perry had roles in a handful of films, including The Fifth Element, 8 Seconds and American Strays. He appeared in HBO’s prison drama Oz and voiced cartoons like The Incredible Hulk and Mortal Kombat. In recent years he starred in the series Ties That Bind and Body of Proof.
Perry played construction-company owner Fred Andrews, father of main character Archie Andrews, for three seasons on Riverdale, the CW series that gives a dark take on “Archie” comics, and has been slated for a fourth.
Perry’s former costars and friends took to social media to share their condolences after news of his passing spread.
what's a "massive" stroke compare to a "regular" stroke?
Same as when people say I have a massive boner right now.
Ok seriously a massive stroke means that the large portion of the brain was denied blood which usually means you get pretty fucked. Smaller strokes some people don't even feel anything or maybe only their arm or leg is affected for example.

My mom had a stroke last week, couldn't stand up, couldn't talk and her vision went blurry. She was fine by the time the ambulance got her to the hospital, doesn't appear to be any permanent damage and only spent 1 night in the hospital. I would consider that a minor stroke compared to what happened to Perry.

You're lucky man. My mom had a stroke and one month later she was dead.
I can't believe people would question what a massive stroke would be.
By all accounts from people that worked in the Vancouver film scene, he's actually one of the 'good ones' that use their power of influence to make sure all the 'small guys' are well taken care of during the shoots.
The sign of stroke are fairly obviously even with the milder ones. If you’re on your own though you may not realize what’s happening if you’re having one yourself.

I didnt like him at the beginning... he looked older then the rest of the cast (probably was) and had a receding hairline... but his acting and being a dominate male figure made him good.
What are you suppose to do when this happens? That's super scary cause it seems like you'd be unsure whether or not to call an ambulance.
Basically if you have any sudden onset of slurred speech, weakness on one side of your body, headaches accompanied with nausea/vomiting or blurred vision, call 9-1-1. You got 3 hours to get to the hospital for them to preform medical diagnostics and treatment (thrombolytics, assuming it is caused by a clot and not a bleed). Ppl who have family members with multiple risk factors should be aware of the signs and symptoms in case it ever happens. Risk factors include.. older age, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart diseases such as clotting issues, previous heart attacks, arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation), smokers and ect.
Sometimes these symptoms go away after you get to the hospital and that usually means its a TIA (transient ischemic attack), known as a temporary stroke. The ones that dont go away and will cause permanent brain damage is the CVA (cerebral vascular accident). TIA's are usually warning signals that hint a CVA will happen soon (few hours to days or weeks) so medical examination and diagnostics are required.
my dad had mini strokes when he was still a alive and he never noticed it (nor did any of us around him)
it was one day we were at the hospital to do some brain scans that we found out he had signs of a stroke before and we still couldnt believe it as he never shown any signs (odd as hell)
I went up to a cute chick and asked her if she'd let me take a photo of her for $30 she slapped me, she said to me that "I AIN'T A WHORE!"
But other than that I have seen every car on display in DTP just by cruising about in Richmond, thank you very much for collecting them together and get someone to sing a cover for "fuck you".
OH FUCK YOU OH OH OOOOH~

No question she is super lucky. I mean currently she's doing Chemo for really aggressive bladder cancer, she also has a less aggressive cancerous mass on one of her Kidney that they've been monitoring the last two years but in regards to the stroke she's 100% lucky, best result considering.
