my folks insist on keeping their landline in 2019 because it's bundled and has international minutes
99.5% of the calls are spam, dont know why they put up with it when they're savvy enough to use internet telephony
been getting much less spam calls on mobile in the past 6 months for me (koodo and t-mobile)...i rarely put my phone number down when filling out forms
The feature in shaw's landline would be perfect!!! Log in, turn on the feature and all blocked numbers get told that the call cannot go through.
try doing what im doing, press 1, wait for that dumb fuck to come on the line (usually with the wei, ni hao) and then fucking blast him in the ear with an airhorn. I get immense satisfaction doing it.
i also tried to whisper whisper, and the guy's like what what? cant hear you, and then i blast the airhorn.

These fuckers somehow got the number to our office's intercom system - 30 people had to sit through "ching chong Ling long" blaring throughout the entire office because the physical machine was locked in the server room and the guy was out sick that day.
Our Chinese manager looked like she wanted to crawl into a hole lol.
I just got a text today saying "claim your Fido refund here: (some BS link that looked ridiculously fake)". I specifically ditched a landline over 10 years ago due to spam and telemarketers. It's hard to fathom how bad it's gotten recently. Business lines are even worse with the "Is the business owner available........."-type calls. Combine those with the annoying recorded messages and well over 50% of calls are BS time wasting scams. There was even a Last Week Tonight episode about how bad it is in the U.S.
Remember the recorded message that paused when you said hello, then kicked in again to try and make you think it was a real person for a moment. I feel like the creativity is gone now. Lol!
I've been getting these fxxking spam calls as well -- both on my cell and at my work number. I have no idea how they got my work number. It's fxxking annoying as hell.
The call usually starts of in a Mainland Chinese accented English, and usually say something along the lines of "This is HSBC blah blah blah", and after a short while, switches into speaking Mandarin.
A friend had been receiving these calls as well, and she was feeling bored enough one day to play along with the guy. She identified herself as "Winnie Xi" in Mandarin, a well-known play / nickname on the Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The caller picked up on the joke, acknowledging her as the "country leader", but somehow continued to BS with her. After a few minutes, the guy said he would get into trouble from his boss if he stayed on the phone for too long, and then he hung up.
Landlines... Ive been convincing my parents to save their money... they mobile phone has unlimited calls...
The problem is, our parents continue to operate on the thoroughly outdated mindset that they somehow *need* to have a landline because it gives you unlimited talk time while the cell phone charges by the minute / seconds.
