Because Google makes money off the app store. Huawei's the #2 smartphone maker without the US market. If Google didn't allow them to use Android, Google would be missing out on a huge chunk of revenue.
I don't think Google wants to do this, they're forced to so they comply with Trump's ban.
Huawei phones would be pieces of sh*t if it didn't run Android. I think Huawei needed Android more than Google needed Huawei owners to buy their apps.
Seriously, I don't get how in the hell Huawei still has an attitude?
They are on the verge of going from a network/telecom giant to a "who?" and they still act like this?
I'm reading Chinese 50cents saying that Huawei is prepared... and that it had already created an in-house OS to replace Android.
In China... that might work given all the gov't muscle it can flex and many of the FANG services weren't available in the first place. But outside of that, no one in the right mind (including retailers) is going to carry their stuff. FB? nop, IG? nop, Google stuff? nop, Spotify, nop... da fuck?!
Huawei is pretty much RIP as we know it if they don't get this ban to reverse in time.
They are not just losing Google... they are losing EVERYTHING US related if this progresses. Want to design a chip? Sorry, no EDA tools. Want some antenna? Well, only the crappy ones. Want to design a Linux based OS? Sorry, you can't work with anything within US companies frameworks (which quite literally, we are talking about 99% of all the components).
Wait until US puts more pressure on its allies... Infineon of Germany already ceased operation with HW. TSMC (who's the ONLY current 7nm manufacturer at large scale) is studying but can really flip any time.
All in all, could HW bypass everything US related and come up with a system of its own? Sure... but it's going to be mediocre at best in a highly competitive market. Should HW allows this to progress, it will go from No.2 smartphone manufacturer in the world 2019 to "others" in this time 2020.
Human rights is not the reason why the Huawei ban is happening. Also more components down the road may be made in India but the companies will still be Chinese.
I see so by same shit you meant outsourcing their manufacturing to other countries.

i think they'll be fine hardware-wise, maybe they can reach a deal with the Koreans
software is definitely going to make or break them, i would be surprised if they haven't already reverse-engineered 99% of Linux/Android

Same could be said for any Android phone manufacturer. At the end of the day, nobody needs anyone else. They can all build their own hardware and ecosystem but everyone wins, especially the consumer when everyone works together.

i agree with whitev70r, it's already crowded af in the Android space, Huawei's only gotten big as a phonemaker globally in the last 2 years, the vacuum left behind will just be filled by Samsung and Google/Oppo/Lenovo etc. again
uh oh looks like a new os is going to rule them all Maemo OS will finally have its shot!
It won't affect OS because android is open source, manufacturers don't need permission from google to build an android OS. You just won't have playstore to download anything lol. Also I think it's for all new phones going forward. So if you currently own a huawei phone, it won't be affected by this.
The US isn't afraid of Huawei's consumer phones, it's their 5G infrastructure that everyone is afraid of, it's way ahead of any other brand's atm. Taking out google from huawei is just a small petty dent in huawei's business that only affects north america and europe. Chinese huaweis don't get affected at all since playstore isnt even available here. North america and europe combined is still small compared to the home market for huawei. So in reality it's just a minor setback for them, nothing game changing on their growth.
Google should have done this a long time ago, China's "great firewall"/censorship banned Google since 2010. If you ban Google ... why the hell should they allow you to use Android?
Haven't read something that made so much sense in a while.
Furthermore, Android is just a linux based operating system.
They can easily replace it with many other ones like Tizen if they wanted to.
I used to be a big fan of Android when it was truly open-sourced.

Although they can use a different operation system, its the Google Playstore thats the big issue. No one else can replicate Apple and Google on this part..
No one will buy a smartphone with limited app support nowaday...

Except for those in China, so they'll max out at what 1/3 of the worlds population. We're on a dangerous path towards fracturing the worlds internet, on multiple fronts. This is just another small step towards that
when people think their Huawei phones can take better photos than a real camera
Huawei CEO on Trump's ban:
Quote:
I’ve sacrificed myself and family for the sake of our goal to stand on top of the world,” Ren told a group of Chinese journalists Tuesday, according to a transcript published by state-run China Central. “To achieve this goal, a conflict with the U.S. is inevitable.
dont wanna go off-topic but compare it to auto setting with kit lens for daytime shots viewed on instagram 300x300 res, sure huawei/pixel AI can fool the average person but it still can't cheat physics
RIP if the ban doesn't get reversed
imagine running one of the largest tech corps and silicon valley shuts you out 100%
would be very surprised if they are able to weather this and come out completely self-reliant

my old huawei nexus 6p was a total piece of shit. after sitting like a brick for a year due to bootloop, they finally owned up to it and fixed it for free. I gave it to my dad and now less than another year, the battery just died and its sitting as a brick again.
BULLSHIT!
