i saw it at the service bay in ferrari maserati of vancouver all the time. . Practically every time I went in for service, it was there. Pretty sure the guy spent like over well 100k on maintenance throughout the years.

Here it is on the lift last time i was in for service. I guess he finally got rid of it. Wouldnt surprise me SR picked it up... or maybe SR is doing it on consignment. Who knows.

Rebuilt status for a car that rare means nothing. This is not going over the Billy Bob's autobody to get the frame pulled.

This went back to Ferarri and got brand new OEM everything. I would not be surprised if it came back better than it was prior to the accident.

Unless the Ferrari dealership has a body shop in house, they probably sent it to a nearby body shop to get it done.

The luxury car ultimately had to be shipped to Toronto for repairs, bringing the ICBC payout up to a total of $790,000. The insurer has covered those costs but Heran says that still is not enough, and is now suing ICBC to cover what he says is the full cost of repairs: an estimated $982,000.

Ferarri is not going to send a whole rear tub for a F40 to any body shop.

See now that guy is a prime example of someone who should be paying like $50,000+ a year for insurance or considered not insurable... way too much risk for the provider.

so in his lawsuit, he openly claims to be a show off? LOL

Quote:
Heran said in his latest notice of civil claim against the agency that it was “unsettling and embarrassing” for him to have the Ferrari absent from his vehicle collection, “which he makes available for public display and appreciation.”

If I recall correctly, he used it for charity to raise money for hospitals. If you look at the facts, he really did nothing wrong. Him claiming embarrassment is stupid and should be thrown out, but ICBC underinsured the value of the car and that's not really his fault, and that's the core of the issue.

I'm not a risk assessment or insurance guy, but I'm guessing premiums are based on factors other than dollar value. Usage type/duration/storage/replacement/repair/driver history etc. How much road time does a F40 really see a year? 50km? That risk of it being damaged is actually very low.

I'm sure Civics are wrecked 1000x more than F40s. Add up all the Civic claims and throw up the fact that body shops just RIP ICBC, I'm sure ICBC lost way more money on those than a one-off case with a F40 that' prob wont happen again in our lifetime.

Someone at ICBC did not look at how much these cars were going for when they assigned the premium for it. Even if the F40 premium was, 10k, 20, 30, even $50k, they would have taken a haircut on this one. The premium will always be lower than the value, otherwise who would buy insurance? Anytime someone makes a claim, they take a haircut. They are betting on the fact that you only make one claim every X years and play the numbers. Premiums are not the issue. They bet on statistics and got burned.

ICBC paid 700k, they want 900k. It's really not THAT crazy. Yes, they took a haircut on this one, but I've been paying premiums for 20 years and have not made one claim. That's $40k in profit just from me and there are many like me.

Not to go down the rabbit hole, but ICBC made their bet, and got burned with this one. But how many F40's are going to get wrecked in BC in our lifetime? 1? The real problem is body shops charging ICBC 3k to replace a bumper on the thousands of civics on the road. One wrecked F40 that will prob even happen again in another 50 years is NOT the reason ICBC is losing money lol.

If I remember the story right the guy was at the Luxury & Supercar Weekend car show and was drinking. So he called his sister in law to drive it and she is the one who crashed it.

and icbc is still operating 7-figures in the red
we have too many high end cars here, $120k+ vehicles should be insured privately so it doesnt affect Civic owners

There is also 1000x (actually probably 100,000x) more civics on the road paying dues. Despite the fact the F40 crash is 1 in a million, they should be paying more for insurance.
