Jesus i cant imagine any of the svs ultra series i have a pc2000 in my basement and it'll rattle the shit outta everything already |
I need closed-backs with the neutrality of the Shure SRH940 but with good construction. The slumlord build quality of this combined with this gospel sound quality leaves me :fulloffuck: |

Was setting up the Apple TV 4K that arrived today. Haven't spun any records lately, so I layed down Chuck Mangione's Children of Sanchez and cranked it up. Damn, analog is so nice. I mean it's really a pain in the ass keeping the LP's clean and whatnot, but damn.......... Bellavia, nuff said. Next up, Dark Side of the Moon. Had a bit of a scare when no sound was coming out, then realized the phono preamp was not turned on. You forget these things when you don't use it for a long ass time. lol. |
I've been posting stuff in Off Topic. Time to post that sort of stuff here. I've come to the conclusion you cannot have the perfect sound system. Money being a huge factor. SO, from now on, I'm going to concentrate on source material. I like vinyl, but it's just too much of a pain. Like a really high end knife, you need to keep it in top condition - all the time. Back to digital it is. I do like the sound of analog tape but that medium fades over time. I really do need to find and fire up the Nakamichi TD 1200 MKII. CD's are convenient, but like the newer vinyl releases, the remastering is sub par. I've been listening to higher end digital sources. Right now, I'm listening to an HDAD version of The Alan Parsons Project - The Turn of a Friendly Card. I've had this for a long time, but never listened to it properly. I need to explore DSD. I have plenty of SACD's that are DSD. Again, the mastering is the key. So many versions of software out there. Anyway, I find anything pressed in Japan is top notch. Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs stuff is also reliable, although a few of their stuff is not that great. Sometimes, I would just sit back and put on a really lousy mastered CD of a great album and just enjoy it for what it is. I'm looking forward to the remastered Steely Dan albums - Bernie Grundman. https://pitchfork.com/news/steely-da...sued-on-vinyl/ Coming out at the end of September. Neptoon Records will be ordering them in LP form. I think I'll order the Super Audio CD version of it (Aja) from Acoustic Sounds. https://store.acousticsounds.com/?ga...AaApm0EALw_wcB |
Just received an e-mail notification from Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs. The long awaited Mofi One Step 2 record set of the Eagles Hotel California is out and available. Going to sell out quickly. If you're an Eagles fan and love vinyl, this is it. 180g 45RPM SuperVinyl 2LP Box Set https://mofi.com/collections/ultradi...tel-california Then, there's the original pressing, unopened stuff.......... https://musicpriceguide.com/13358/EA...E-STICKER.html |
Decided to open up some boxes of stuff I had at my mom's house (20 years ago?). I found some vintage stereo equipment. Not audiophile quality, but not cheap. I always strived to get the best affordable stuff. This is from when I was in university/college (45 years ago). An old Hitachi tape deck with VU meter. My god, I missed dancing lights. I also found a Sound Shaper SA-1, complete with the electret microphone it came with. Dancing lights............. a thing of the past, but so cool. I so want to connect it via line and not microphone, but the AV receiver I have has all digital (HDMI) outputs. I guess I can get an RCA switcher in between the connected vintage stuff............ what a pain that'll be. I tried connecting an analog converter from the HDMI Arc connector and Optical out (Toslink and coax), since the sound from Shaw box is connected directly to AV Receiver. My 4K TV has no analog out. Optical and Coax only. I have to think more deeply about this, but for now, the microphone works great. Oh, forgot to mention, found some audiophile tapes. Pre-recorded Nakamichi demo tapes. I even have an original NACA test tape. Other tapes that were songs recorded on TDK metal tapes (all metal housing) via a Nakamichi Dragon (friend had one that I used quite a bit). I still have a Nak TD1200 (car audio) collecting dust. Playing these tapes on the Hitachi is sacrilege. Butt.................. what the hell, lol. Gotta find the head and roller cleaners. Alsop, gulolololol. New cassette tapes are still being produced........ like, W - T - F ?????? EDIT: Okay, just had to do a search.......... Taylor Swift Cassette Tapes! $45+ ??????? Found photos of the TDK metal body tapes. https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1546...search_click=1 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/28579884470...Bk9SR8Si4b7VYw |
Damn................. forgot about the Mini Disc. |
Interesting note, I saw that Toys R Us in Richmond has an HMV pop-up aisle selling vinyl. |
https://i.imgur.com/DO9OJUy.jpg https://i.imgur.com/U07ETbn.jpg I picked this up from a movie set sale. Everything functions! The hinge is dampened and not broken. Also, the speaker quality is really really good. The low end comes through smoothly and warmly. If you put your hand on the speaker grille, you can feel the music massage your hand. So I put my balls on it But not really. I can't defile such a quality kit piece. |
wait.... is that an answering machine? da fuck is that? FM radio alarm clock or something? i dont get the product planning that led to this creation. |

You can use it to record 'mix tapes' off the radio or record your spouse having an affair  |
Damn, while I was at Tower Records in Shibuya, Japan, I came across the 50th Anniversary Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I have just about every version of this 70's mega wAnder of a recording/project. This was a Dolby Atmos Blu Ray version that came out in 2023. Yeah, could get it on Amazon or eBay, but it was there on the shelf. I had to get it. I'm listening to it now. Holy bejeezus, aural french tickler, immersive, out of word kind of experience. Now I wish I had a 7.1.4 setup to truly appreciate this masterpiece. I paid 3890 Yen, which is like $35.00 CAD. Spatial bliss. The saxophone in, "Us and Them," is so clear and detailed that a professional sax player could probably guess the type of reed that was used - that clear. There's a box set of the 50th Anniversary that goes for $300.00 USD, but having this single Dolby Blu Ray for $35.00 is gold! The disc comes with a good explanation on how to set up and test your system to get true Dolby Atmos HD playback. I had to listen to the 5.1 Surround Mix 24 bit/96 kHz Uncompressed dts-HD MA. The disc also includes the Remastered Stereo Mix in the same configuration. Having said that, you can listen to the Dolby Atmos Mix using 5.1 Surround, but there's conflict with signals and it sounds off (pretty obvious why). A true Dolby Atmos system means I have to get a new receiver that has the correct outputs. There are other ways to do it, like a second amp, but sometimes, it's not worth it. I'm happy with my 5.1 :okay: Update: Of all the versions on this disc, I like the Remastered Uncompressed Mix the most. Weird. |
Nice, well worth it for $35. I've got a 5.1.2 Atmos setup should see what it sells for here. I've been buying 4k UHD Blu rays but haven't gotten into music or concert discs (yet...) |
