I just did some reading up, and apparently the MY2020 X3 does get iDrive 7 and therefore Android Auto... that throws everything up in the air again, yay!

EDIT: So confused - there is conflicting info on whether or not Live Cockpit Pro/iDrive 7 is standard on 2020 X3s, or optional with certain packages, or if they were added mid-model year... any BMW gurus that can help?

So there's two iDrive systems in the 2020 X3? iDrive 6 and iDrive 7? And both the m30 and the m40 can have it, but not the X3M? And it doesn't matter the trim? I AM SO CONFUSED.


This is iDrive 6, no wireless CarPlay/Android Auto?


Live Cockpit Plus, iDrive 7, yes to wireless CP/AA?

Is this going to a forever car? (As in, are you going to lease or finance it?)

I do agree that the Lexus UX is a bit small (they don't hide that as a fact) but quite nice overall. The NX200 is the next one up and should be okay. The RX is just massive in comparison to the UX. Having said that, I didn't find Lexus that boring to drive anymore as compared to, say, five to ten years ago. I was told that it should have Android Auto later in the year, but I could be wrong.

Going to finance it most likely, I tend to keep cars 6-8 years before looking at a replacement.

probably doesnt help but the new NX should be coming out later year, based on the RAV4

Android Auto is slowly coming to Toyota products...if all else fails just buy something older and stick Android Auto in it

#1 reason, I think and I hear, is the ease with which you can put things in the back. Especially parents with strollers - SUV/wagon/minivan rear space vs. opening a trunk. 2nd most common reason I hear is that you sit above traffic a bit and can see ahead ... I find that I can see fine without being 8 or 12" higher. Finally, some say that they want the AWD feature ... and then they keep A/S tires on when it snows ... so I don't give a whole lot of weight to that reason.

^this plus if you got knee problems like my dad. It’s easier to get in and out of. It’s great for older people.

Space for tall stuff in the back, height to see over other cars in front of you (my SO is short, 5' 1" and not a super confident driver) and reduction in glare from cars in front and behind. It seems like every car has their lights aimed high from factory (looking at you Toyota Corollas and RAV4s!)

I've run snow tires on all the cars I own, AWD or not, so this won't be any different.

My parents and in-laws are getting old too, this would be helpful for them vs climbing into my GTI at the moment.

I've seen it the other way. Once mom and pop get past a certain age, climbing up onto SUV is too hard and a lower entry into car is better. Anyone else come across this?

my dad drove my corolla for a couple of months last year since we stopped insuring his SUV, and didn't like it, since it was hard to get in and too low to the ground. he wanted to sit higher up as well.

my parents haven't gotten to the age where getting into the suv is hard yet.

You are absolutely correct, but they still think it is easier to climb into an SUV than to get into a regular car.


The real easy vehicles for seniors to get into and out of are minivans. But as I have insisted numerous times in the past, Siennas and Odysseys are just too honking big now.

I’d only be ok with a traditional trunk if it means RWD + 3rd pedal + lightness

What about the new turbo 3.5 V6 that Acura's supposed to be coming out with? Really wouldn't be surprised if they came out with an RDX Type S with that.

The current crop of CUVs have a hip point which makes it easier for seniors and others to slide into the vehicle rather than have to climb up.

I'll believe it when I see it. Besides, a Type S won't be a huge power difference like that - the turbo V6 will most likely be in the 400 horse range.

Yes, my father in-law is short had a hard time climbing up and hopping down from my RX.

If you can wait, you should check out the new GV80 but it would be more of a X5 size.

What people really need are longer hatches/wagons, but nobody really makes them. Though even if they were available I feel like nobody would buy them cause of "mUh SuV"

current rdx is already a gas hog
i'd expect a type S to drink gas like a thirsty v8 land cruiser/4runner

My parents have an RDX and they love the size, they don't have to climb up and into to more just slide in. Most sedans you go down into it and climb out.

If you're at the top end of a CR-V/RAV4 budget why not a lightly used 2019 RDX? The base and tech trims with 10K kms on them are now down into the high 30s-low 40s. Even a brand new A-Spec trim can be had for as little as $53K all in if you're doing it in cash.

Dude, you missed the thread, that was my reasoning and the problem I'm having making a choice at what to look at - if I'm at the top end of a CX-5/CR-V/RAV4 budget, a used luxury SUV (Acura, Lexus, Audi, BMW etc) becomes a possibility.

I do a lot of highway driving (at least a road trip every other weekend) and would appreciate more punch than the 2.0T, esp coming from V8s.

Couple thoughts on this....

It might be good? I mean, X3 M40i is rated at 20mpg city 27mpg highway... Car and Driver managed to get 29mpg at 75mph.

It might be better? If it's anything like the Mustang Ecoboost I had, the 2.0T is probably working pretty hard.

Even if it's bad, as long as it gets better than the 13 mpg city in the V8 Charger I had, it's cool with me

Maybe they'll sneak their hybrid system in there? The huge underfloor storage space seems to suggest that they deliberately left that there to fit a battery pack
