developing a sportscar platform without partnerships is a poor roi for mainstream brands...i'd rather see this than a Renault

thank goodness for retaining the triple gauge so they can't put a tablet jutting out of the dash

AzNightmare 09-16-2020 11:38 AM

The front is way too boxy, especially from the front view. That looks horrendous.
I know the 350Z also had a boxy front, but it was much smaller, and the edges were more beveled so it didn't look quite as bad.

I'm a bit mixed on the overall exterior. It's definitely more conservative as opposed to something like the GR Supra which looks aggressive, but way too busy. It has a bit of that "modern muscle" vibe like what they did with some of the modern American "muscle" cars. It's actually quite clean..

Nice to have another manual rwd option.

!Aznboi128 09-16-2020 02:14 PM

^ I wouldn't say another as you can still get the 370z today. If you get the base they're quite inexpensive.

twitchyzero 09-16-2020 02:29 PM

as in at least they didn't use the Z nameplate for a fwd hybrid crossover with a jatco cvt

SkinnyPupp 09-16-2020 03:00 PM

I think it looks good, except for the big square front grille, and the black roof with chrome strip DansGame

Except finance/lease rates are unreasonably high, so in a sense they almost force you to buy it out.

trollface 09-17-2020 02:02 PM

Is anyone here wondering why Nissan decided with make a niche sports car without partnering with someone else when they are bleeding to death in all segments outside Asia?

vitaminG 09-17-2020 02:05 PM

^ they are sharing the platform/engine/transmission from the q60 so their development costs likely aren't that high.

StylinRed 09-17-2020 03:22 PM

They should just throw a tesla 3 battery/motors into a new Z shell

westopher 09-20-2020 07:53 PM

Other than the front view I love it. Is it a 2 seater or 2+2(ish)?

They called it the "Katana" WutFace

Since its based on the 370z it should be a 2-seater

Officially announced, 400HP, 350ft-lb tq, 6 M/T. Interior is still typical of Nissan. Makeup on a pig - still a bunch of cheap hard plastic. Reminds me of why I passed up a 370Z nismo and got a 2002 E46 M3 instead.

^^ I like it, I wonder how much it will be

westopher 08-17-2021 07:00 PM

Looks fantastic. I hope it does well. If it doesn’t, no one will try anymore and there will be nothing cool for enthusiasts between the FR-S and the Cayman/m2

us base spec to start at 40k usd... so i would say... probably 47k cad here abouts? less than 50k for sure.

I think that puts the car super competitive in the market

Supra gonna suffer with the lack of mt option and higher base price

westopher 08-17-2021 07:29 PM

This is astonishingly better looking than the new supra.

Alpine 08-17-2021 08:19 PM

All of the GR86 reviews have completely stolen the spotlight from the Z launch... which is too bad. We need all of these cars to be successful.

twitchyzero 08-17-2021 08:39 PM

same chassis designation as the 370Z

which Z do you have
the new Z

yeah but which one
the Z34

so the 370Z
nah

SkinnyPupp 08-17-2021 09:06 PM

One of the better looking new cars I've seen, though not without some ugly modern trends

The blue exterior is making it look a lot better than the yellow on the prototype car. But that same blue in the interior is totally ruining it for me.

I know 400hp is 400hp. But looking at that USD $40k starting price for the "base" model, I think the next higher trim -- Z Performance? -- is the model that "enthusiasts" would want. Stiffer suspension, LSD, and some sort of upgraded brakes. At that trim level, I'd be very surprised if it doesn't break the Cdn$50k mark -- actually, I'd expect that to get close to the Cdn mid $50k's.

(Also recall that here in BC, the PST part goes higher than 7% once the sale price is higher than $55k.

And then I'm gonna ask myself -- do I really want to spend $62k after tax on a Nissan? (For the record, I'd much rather spend $35 - $36k after tax on a GR86, power be damned.)

twitchyzero 08-18-2021 06:01 AM

gonna need enough people to buy performance trim so I can pick one up used for 10k in 10 years Sadge

JDMDreams 08-18-2021 07:19 AM

^^ I doubt it as the 350z sold tonnes because there was crazy financing offers by Nissan back then and we had the strong Cad so there were lots of US imports. You barely see any 370z and unless they have long and cheap financing deals they won't sell that many. I think they will run into the issue of the stinger GT, that by the time it came out it was too expensive and no one wanted to pay that much for a Kia / Nissan, isn't a Gtr like $140k when they were supposed to start at like $75
