Nissan 400Z Proto Nissan Z is being unveiled and the rear lights looks like it's drawing from the 300ZX. Not sure how I feel about the square front box, but overall looking forward to seeing these hit the road and comparisons vs the brz/86 https://i.imgur.com/Ynocm8f.jpg https://i.imgur.com/VIcJbgC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zipqa3v.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XoecHnC.jpg 100% digital dash is nice, but the glossy black plastic on steering wheel is going to get sooo scratched up |

Side profile and interior reminds me of RPS13 kouki |
I though prototypes were supposed to look good |
It’s based on the current platform so there was only so much that they could do with it. With that being said, I think they nailed the shape. |
They said it's close to production, so even though it's a prototype, don't expect much changes. That single cup holder in that massive amount of plastic looks terrible. |
I'm not feeling the back at all. It feels very disjointed from the front, like two complete different designers worked on it without talking with each other. |
It looks as bad as all the other retro styled cars like the Challenger. The head on view of the front end is particularly terrible https://scontent.fyvr3-1.fna.fbcdn.n...4a&oe=5F8848B6 I've seen people comparing the rear to an S14 240SX/Silvia but all the thin black lines make me think of a 90's Pontiac. I think they did that on a bunch of their cars so it's sort of a Firebird/Sunbird hybrid. |
^oof. That image is particularly horrible. |
tails are straight 300zx which is not my cup of tea Spoiler! at least it's manual |
Whatever, just be glad they're putting out a new RWD coupe. The aftermarket will compensate for the design, anyway. |
lol I like it. I like the throwback to giant openings in bumpers for exposed ICs and coloured rad hoses. http://members.tripod.com/slideways__1/09-05-4.jpg |
mouth wide open .......... |
Not enough speed holes... I know people complain about fake ones but having none is meh... this just looks like a smooth lady toy, the shaky kind... And head on, looks like a ventriloquist dummy with the mouth open. |
I didn't know they were using the current chassis, I'm more excited to see what motor it comes with. I'm sure an amuse front bumper will easily fix the mouth, still better than BMWs beaver teeth. At least it looks like a Z |
I want to love it, but I don't. It's an homage to the S30 sure, but it's too much of a mish-mash of different Z generations that IMO, shouldn't be combined together as one single expression/representation of "Z". For example, the rectangular grille on the S30 was broken up by a bumper, whereas it's not on this Z Proto. I suppose you could say that the two separate textures/patterns in the grille itself serves as a visual separator but we won't know until we see it in the flesh. The massive chrome strip separating the black roof and the rest of the body, yeah not doing it for me. It represents that thick chrome drip rail found on the S30, but that was actually functional, and didn't extend all the way to where it does on the Z Proto. Makes that triangular area where the round Z badge is look awkward. The decision to use Z32-inspired tail lights doesn't really make sense to me. If you think about the Z32, it's the least Z-like of all of the Z cars. You could say the Z32 tails themselves were a modern interpretation of the S30 tails, but using the Z32 as inspiration on a car that is primarily S30-based, eh doesn't really fit in, in my opinion. The Z32 oozes late 80s/early 90s styling, obviously the S30 doesn't, so that's a bit weird to me, just feels out of place. I'm curious to see how the car looks without the black roof. Unfortunately I have a hunch that it would make the rear end look horrible. I don't hate it, I don't love it, just doesn't really tug at my heart strings the way some other similar car designs do. |
A face only a mother could love. In this case the car designers |

remember this is coming from a carmaker that's about to go the way of the Isuzu...more than lucky to even have this in 2020, better late than never closest rival: Supra the automatic BMW cheaper rival: pending new Subaru the overall shape is good and this is 5" longer than 370z the front DRL are probably gonna become iconic interview with designer https://www.motortrend.com/news/niss...fonso-albaisa/ |

It's not bad. Just google what the 350z prototype looked it. |
The front view is pretty awful, but honestly I think they did a pretty good job. I wish they had made it smaller and lighter.... but the chance of that happening was just a pipe dream. Overall just happy to see a sports car continue to be made with a manual option. Lol. |
For those of you who don't like the front, some one photoshopped a quick fix already and it looks much better. https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...9g5luimgnn.jpg I quite like the front and the interior, despite it looking like the 370Z. Still don't feel the back and hope they fix it. |
I think they did a great job. Interior doesn't remind me of the boring/plain styling of a Nissan and the body lines follow the original. Manual, rwd, coupe, v6 twin turbo. That short list is more than most manufactures will give you these days. This forum is full of people who will never be satisfied by anything other than a $500 craigslist good deal that depreciated fully 20 years ago. |
