fucken dying :lol:lol:lol:lol

The good thing about bbqing is the low and slow and the sitting outside in the sun crushing beers all day. But then too much beer is drunk and no one has had food all day since the low and slow thing and you either fight your dad or fuck your first cousin. Gotta love a redneck bbq :woot2:

I bought a $30 Black and Decker once. "What a bargain. What could be the difference?" I'll never forget that outcome. Mush on the outside, raw on the inside. Tasted like a melted duffel bag. Returned it right away for a Zojirushi.

I feel bad for the white people who buy these things and don't know any better. "I... I guess that's just what rice tastes like."

I can only hope it was defective because that sounds like how the rice in my old cooker was turning out when it was dying. I may be white but I still have some standards. And a bread maker, but I inherited that and I've never used it lol.

any recommendations for a 7qt air fryer at costco?

burned through 2 diff type of basket ones the last few years hoping to not have another dud.

MG1 01-31-2024 10:56 AM

I have a Ninja Foodie 8 quart Dual Basket Air Fryer. I thought it was great. Don’t use it anymore. It’s back in the box it came from. Why? I found me an 8 in 1 Ninja Foodie flip up. The thing is very versatile. Toaster oven, oven, air fryer, etc. biggest question is if I should bake or air fry. Sometimes I use the wire basket for stuff, while other times I use the tray, lined with parchment. I even purchased the deeper casserole tray accessory. When finished, I flip the thing up so it doesn’t take up space.

Got the thing from Canadian Tire Black Friday Sale. Awesome deal.

works fine in my opinion, don't need a $500 rice cooker.

Rice cooker is just so damn expensive here. Especially higher end.

That's why I said just order them from Amazon JP if one's looking for one.

Induction heating is something only high-end rice cookers here. But it's harder to find model that's not IH in Japan as it has become the norm.

IIRC, the cheapest IH model here in Canada is 250+. On Amazon JP, it's 13,000yen. Add another 5000yen in shipping and taxes, one is still looking at under 200 and it's 3 generation newer than the latest available in Canada.

roastpuff 01-31-2024 12:15 PM

You know you can buy smaller rice cookers right? Jesus people.

I have a 5.5 cup rice cooker and that makes a damn lot of rice even at 1.5 cups, and before that a 3 cup rice cooker when I was single.

my parents have a $600 cuckoo but my mom prefers using her $100 tiger rice cooker these days for some reason. don't need a fancy rice cooker to make rice.

Holy shit. I always joked about whether people actually buy/use these $600 Cuckoo rice cookers.

Any particular reason she uses the Tiger over the Cuckoo?

For real I had to listen through a Cuckoo rice cookers circlejerk from the aunties when I visited them last CNY. They all bought whatever the flagship model from Korea and were proud of how their units showed Korean text on the buttons as proof. Maybe it's their version of getting color-matched vents in Porsches.

I could not understand their enthusiasm but the rice was good. I couldn't tell how much better it was than a Japanese model.

So they're not Japanese models with Korean enhancements?

Mikoyan - I have a lurking suspicion you have one of these baller Cuckoo rice cookers. :suspicious:

I won a Sanyo rice cooker from Save On Foods with the scan & win like 15 years ago:

https://c1.neweggimages.com/ProductI...146-028-02.jpg

I actually use it more for slow-cooking dried chickpeas to make a weekly batch of Hummus with than for actual rice. It cooks well I guess, 15 years old and still working just fine.

inv4zn 02-01-2024 02:56 PM

The Cuckoo (we have one) is useful ONLY if you actually use all its intended functions. It has different settings and appropriately labelled water level markings for white rice, sushi rice, glutinous rice, mixed rice, etc. It's also able to make pretty good rice cake, and because it's a pressure cooker essentially, you can do all sorts of other stuff with it.

If all you're doing is making white rice day in day out, then no you don't need it.

It's been six months since I posted my Martin Yan rice cooker.

I can repost it, right?

Inlaws gifted an IH Zojirushi. Not the pressure cooker one though.
Came in handy when I had the flu a few weeks back to make congee while I was passed out in bed.

honestly i think she just doesnt know how to use it. they complained that the rice just comes out too hard.

Badhobz 02-01-2024 05:06 PM

Does she use the finger rule ?

Measure the rice from your finger tip then add water till it hits the first crease / articulation.

bcrdukes 02-01-2024 08:01 PM

I would normally say "Asian Fail!" but if a rice cooker is so sophisticated, it's gonna need some trickery and witchcraft to make it work! :peek:

MG1 02-28-2024 10:09 AM

I still have a 15 cup National Rice Cooker my mom used for years (50+ years old). Still working to this day. I only bring it out when I need lots of rice for futomaki. My prized rice cooker is a National mochi making machine. Cooks and kneads the glutinous rice. National brand was huge here in the GVRD. I knew the person who imported them back in the day.
