U could try with that, but it doesn't look sharp or ragged, the rubber surround, angle of the step, could be argued to have been damaged by you, since that's what you backed into

I go to Manpuku on that very block quite often. Actually, any street in that part of Vancouver look the same. At first, I thought it was Keefer - Kent's Kitchen, but the shops weren't the same.

Anyway.............. you did get the license plate and/or name on side of truck, right?

What's the point of posting this thread if all you want is a circlejerk? You're just picking at straws here to soothe your ego.

ICBC will find you at fault no matter what. You hit a stationary vehicle/object.

And that photo you uploaded is inconclusive. A shot like is highly dependent on camera angle and it definitely was not shot straight to begin with. It looks edited to me.

ok let me put it this way,

if that bumper was sticking out 5cm and not 1cm, would it make a difference in terms of liability?

its definitely sticking out a little bit, that was the whole reason why i decided to take the picture.

INB4 van owner sees this thread and you have to pay for scratching his bumper and get charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

You should hire a lawyer. Sue them for everything they got.

I mean, sure, you drove past the truck, so you would've seen it first and should've made sure it was safe before reversing into the spot... but who's going to know that except RS?? If it comes to it, just say you're legally blind.

Shit happens...

I almost hit one of these:

I was probably inches away at the time, and I didn't even realize the platform was partially lowered like that until I drove past it.

I'm sure that rule was made for something protruding more than what you hit. You'd probably need a straight edge just to prove its sticking out at all. I understand it sucks you hit it and we'd all be choked in the same situation. The difference is most of us after the fact would be upset with ourselves and not try to find a way to blame a parked vehicle.

You should be at fault and I'd be astonished if ICBC said anything but.

VI as in damage estimate your car?

Don't do it, call colorworks and get it fixed and airbrushed for a couple hundred. Now that you initiated a claim your insurance might also have to fix the step on the truck.

FIXT

or was it actually your car................

A truck owned by a guy who's on the brink of bankruptcy. His truck is probably his only form of income. Truck probably won't pass inspection and he's out on the street............

Then again, it could be owned by a very rich person who has a dozen trucks and it's just a drop in the bucket. Takes advantage of people and is slimy as all hell. At least a dangerous truck is off the road...........

just trying to add some spice to the story............

Why did you report this to icbc?

I doubt the truck driver cares. Your premiums is gonna go up more than the repair cost. I would pay this out of pocket instead of getting ICBC involved.

You can report it to ICBC then decide to pay for it out of pocket and nothing happens. Unless there was damage to the truck. Then you also have to ay for its repairs. If driver wants to dick you after the fact.

You pay me 500 buck, I forget. Gulolow

Lol, watch ICBC determine this bumper is not safe and make it 50/50 raising both OP's rates and the vehicle he hit.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong but I don't see anyway you get less then 50% blame for hitting a stationary object which as far as your rates goes is the same as 100% your fault if you claim the damages and don't pay out of pocket. I mean I guess maybe you repay half they repay half? ICBC loves 50/50, not sure they can give this guy 50% fault though since he was parked, maybe make him fix his bumper moving forward.
