Are the Habs done like a guy who finished eating his Montreal deli sandwich?

One more period of hockey.

Welp, it's over. Valiant effort by Montreal to get to the cup final but Tampa is an unstoppable force with a wicked array of weapons to use.

pastarocket 07-02-2021 06:47 PM

Respect to Corey Perry. Playing like a playoff warrior despite the score.

Perry scores! 5-3.

3-0 hole, odds are HEAVILY against Montreal making any sort of meaningful comeback. Simply outmatched.

MG1 07-02-2021 07:03 PM

Man, Las Vegas Golden Knights be like, WTF? How'd we lose to a "Team Like That?"

Haven't watched a single game this series........... just log onto RS to see how it's going.

SkinnyPupp 07-02-2021 07:12 PM

I think the Knights would be down 3-0 as well... TB is just so much better than anyone else

MG1 07-02-2021 07:26 PM

Some teams play well against certain teams. If the Canucks ever got into the playoffs, they may have gone further than the first round. Like they say, the playoffs are like a new season.

What the hell did I just say?

MG1 07-02-2021 07:27 PM

Go, Tampa, GO!!!!!!

Don't you dare! You're not a True Fan!

whitev70r 07-02-2021 08:23 PM

Damn ... that city is going to burn down in riots if they lose the series 4-0.

spoon.ek9 07-02-2021 08:54 PM

the way things have gone, i'd honestly be surprised if they could pull out a single win.

mb_ 07-02-2021 09:45 PM

Well played Habs but simply cannot match Tampa in all positions

AzNightmare 07-02-2021 10:01 PM

Not to put blame on Price, but he's clearly not playing anywhere the level they need him to be in general. But today especially, some iffy rebound control, goals just squeaking through his arm or glove..

But we all knew ahead of time, Price needs like an impossible .970 SV% for Montreal to have any real shot at winning...

If it makes anyone feel better, the two cups from the back to back seasons are under an unorthodox Covid season setup. So "asterisk" champs!
:troll:

68style 07-02-2021 10:12 PM

My buddy who’s obsessed with the Canadiens thinks that Price got concussed the last game of the previous series when his head got clipped… I'm not so sure... but he definitely hasn't looked as sharp and he’s got a history

If all the lightning players are present during the regular season, how much over the cap would they be?

They're around $17.3M over the cap, about 20% higher than the cap of all the other teams during the regular season

So add another asterisk to their cup if there's no miracle

I'm sure other teams have benefitted from this loophole but what's the average norm?

17.3M just seems ridiculous, especially when it's for their top players.

It's been done, but AFAIK not to this extent. Usually by like $1-2 million. The Blackhawks used it to basically play Patrick Kane for free - he was injured during the season, so they put him on IR and signed players worth his salary. Then on day 1 of the playoffs he came back from injury and his $6.3 million put them over but it didn't matter.

Tampa is going way overboard with it and flagrantly abusing the loophole. $17.3 million over the cap is straight up cheating.

They'll close the loophole next year though so /shrug

68style 07-04-2021 09:07 PM

Yah with no penalty whatsoever either.

Unlike the Canucks who, years after Luongo's contract was signed and approved by the league, are handed a $12 mill penalty extrapolated over 4 years…. hypocrisy to the max

highfive 07-04-2021 10:31 PM

^deep down I feel aquaman pissed off the billionaires of the other teams. Probably didn’t help by hiring Gillis.

I always thought that JB is part of the old boys club but it doesn’t seem like he’s really part of the club as we were not getting any special dibs.

68style 07-05-2021 04:34 PM

Crazy what happened to Kivlenieks… so random and terrible.

Lighting are flying early… 8-0 shots in goal so far!

pastarocket 07-05-2021 04:46 PM

Mr. Anderson scores!!

Giving an underdog team a win in the series and some life can be dangerous for the Lightning.

That idiot Tampa mayor better be careful what she wishes for. LUL
