Lol figured someone would take it to the extreme when I mentioned fanatic.

Anyhoo, people can obviously choose to watch however they like. I’m simply saying I personally find it annoying when people who were full on Canucks fans in 2011 start showing up in VGK merch and I know when the Canucks start winning again, they’ll dust off their Sedin jersey lol

You can be sure I’ll call those people out LUL

Great points from many people about Vegas. Bettman and the rest of his cronies helped that team become competitive with the expansion draft. No doubt about it.

Although I have been a Canucks fan since 1982, I am cheering for the Habs because they are a Canadian team and the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup in 1993.

Wouldn't it be great to see a Canadian team win the Cup? Stick it to Bettman and the pro-American NHL executives. LUL

The Habs are facing a juggernaut with Vegas. A fast skating, big team, that can score goals and play defense.

This series is a matchup between David and Goliath. The underdog Habs are going to need to play their best as a team and hope that Carey Price turns into a red wall for the entire series in order to have a chance to beat Vegas.

-would like to see Toffoli win another Stanley Cup so that Benning's incompetence in not being able to sign Toffoli to a contract extension becomes even more glaring.

The Canadiens' powerplay and penalty killing need to be a difference maker in this series.

Vegas forwards like their goon Reaves are going to play a physical game against the Habs. The Golden Knights are gonna play this series with plenty of body checks against the Habs.

The smaller Habs' forwards such as Caulfield, Paul Byron, and Brendan Gallagher that weigh less than 200 pounds and stand 5 foot 9 or less better keep their heads up against Vegas. LUL

Hondaracer 06-12-2021 09:37 AM

The Habs are gross. Lol

If it’s not the Canucks I’m not rooting for a Canadian team just based on geography.

Also while the Habs have been a surprise when you watch Vegas and Tampa there’s no way the Habs can beat them unless Price plays like no one has ever seen a goalie play before. Imo I’d take Fleury over price right now

Tampa gets to play Kucherov as the salary cap does not apply during the playoffs. Getting a star player certainly helps the defending champs.

Cannot cheer for the champs. Do not care for Tampa.

I certainly do not care for the desert knights of Vegas or the Islanders.

One expansion team that gets help from the league with the expansion draft to become competitive quickly.

Islanders? Multiple Stanley Cup winners already.

At least the Habs are a Canadian team. The underdog team that would piss off Bettman if they win it all this season.

The Kings of the North.

The Stanley Cup belongs back in Canada where hockey was invented!

"King o' da norf!"

Would like to see a "Canadian" team win the Cup.
Though I like VGK too, really only because if you squint and strain your eyes while watching you can half-convincingly fool yourself they're wearing classic Canucks jerseys.

mikemhg 06-12-2021 12:41 PM

I hate that idea of "bandwagon fan" it's such a silly thing to say IMHO.

The Canucks have a notoriously bad front office, and a terrible owner. As a Canucks fan, we've been punished with bad decisions, and poor management for decades here.

Players don't want to come here for that very reason.

The Clippers floundered for decades because of a shitty owner (Donald Sterling), if the product is crap, why do you have to continue to be a diehard fan, their arena sat empty every season.

Think about your favorite restaurant that has a fantastic chef putting out amazing food. You visit that restaurant regularly, and love the food. A new owner comes in and purchases the restaurant, fires the head chef, and replaces him.

The food steadily declines. Would you still patronize this restaurant? Would you continue to visit the restaurant out of your "loyalty" to something that once was? I doubt it.

Why is a sports team any different?

punkwax 06-12-2021 01:13 PM

^if the NHL had multiple franchises in Vancouver like we have restaurants, you might be onto something :lol BRB grabbing some restaurant merch so people know where I like to eat!

I’m not even saying people HAVE to support the home team. But if you’re a fan, you’re with the team, win or lose. Can’t have it both ways or else, you sir, are a poseur IMO.

Anyway, moving on from this topic myself. I’ve made it clear how I feel about the subject.

Hondaracer 06-12-2021 01:50 PM

Vancouver was a destination under MG with the same owner.. there are numerous of examples of players taking less to come here, leaving it open as an option for trades etc.

Sports eb and flow, I’d say based on geography alone Vancouver will always be an attractive destination for players. I find it hard to call out aqualini as this terrible owner when there are more than a handful of owners in this league who don’t even spend to the cap.

AzNightmare 06-12-2021 01:56 PM

At least in my opinion, I honestly have no reason to support the Canucks besides the fact they are the local team in the city I was born and raised in.

My attachment is really to the team and within, not really even the players. When one of my favourites get traded away, I wish them well, but in all honestly, I start to disconnect. I liked Markstrom when he was here and I wish him all the best now, but I didn't keep up with what was going on with him this season. (Until maybe a few weeks ago when a Calgary fan told me, I didn't even know he suffered a concussion that set his season back when he ran into Pearson that one game.)

Personally, I can't attach myself to any other team. When Canucks aren't in it, I may get exposed to some nice highlights or odd drama like controversial situations. I like watching those clips. But I don't actually follow the playoffs anymore. I would like the Habs to win, but honestly, I couldn't care less.

It's still Cauncks all the way for me, no matter what. My investment varies over the decades I've been a "fan". Life also gets busy so I can't spend 2-3 hrs every 2 nights to watch every game like I did back when I was a teen. Canucks haven't been playing well so I watch all their games now on 10 min condensed highlights on Youtube or dtmts.com

But when/if Canucks make it to the playoffs, I'm glued to everything about them and watch every minute of it. It's a drastic switch from regular season. Why? Because after following this team for over 25 years, the only thing that I really want to offer my full attention for is their playoff run and the chance to win the cup. Everything else seems a little "been there, done that" and stale.

But at the end of the day, Canucks is the only team in my heart, the only team I can and would cheer for, so I don't know if that's enough to qualify me as a "true" fan. If hypothetically Vancouver lost their team or moved, I would probably stop following the NHL.

punkwax 06-12-2021 02:13 PM

^qualified.

RiceIntegraRS 06-12-2021 02:13 PM

Win or Lose ill always be a fan of this team, it doesnt matter how badly its been managed. Theres almost nothing that can happen for me not to be a fan of the Canucks. I just keep crawling back. I come here to cheer and cry with you guys (mostly cry) in hopes that 1 day we could all go all the way and cheer the ultimate prize together. Until then, ill continue to bitch, moan and complain until I see some type of success with the team cause thats what being a fan is imo. The debating about whose a true fan or a bandwagon fan is abit silly just because theres no definition on what is what.

Your understanding of sports in general is wayyyy off lol.

Do you understand how many teams in professional sports have literally done every single thing they could to perform and never see results?

Teams like the Cubs etc. With bottomless pockets, millions of fans, all the draft picks in the world can go a century without a championship.

To think the Canucks haven’t tried to do everything they can to win is just ignorant. Are their efforts sometimes misguided? Perhaps. But the money snd will is there and that’s never been a question under this ownership, period.

Obviously they're literally trying.

I'm just going by what everyone says in this thread about their efforts.

I'm not an expert, and I don't pay much attention to that side of the sport, so I defer to the bigger fans and experts.

And according to them, they are doing a shitty job of it.

I don't know, I loved this team last year during the cup run. But coming into this year things were different. Before covid, Pettersson's injury. There was all this negativity with losing Toffoli, losing Tanev, keeping some other shitty players, etc

So yes, they are trying. Obviously they're going to try, they are a business that wants to make money. Most of the players and coaches want to win more than anything.

But if this GM is this incompetent, and the owner keeps him around, then they are a shit team. The Browns were a shit team for many years, but are finally coming around. The Jets might do that this year too. And maybe even the Jaguars, who are trying something completely different. These were all bad teams trying very hard to be good teams. Will the Canucks do the same? Then you have the Bengals or Texans, who either don't care, or have been infiltrated by a cult leader.

If so I'll be more than happy to be a fan again. I watched every minute of every game this year up until the covid outbreak. I broke after that. But I don't hate the team, I just would rather spend my time doing other things if there's no real reason to watch. People were saying they didn't even need to bother playing those games. Weren't they still playing games while the playoffs were going on? That's absurd! LUL

whitev70r 06-12-2021 04:35 PM

They are going to have to fix that no cap in playoff loophole. That's BS!

whitev70r 06-13-2021 01:25 PM

Would love to see NYI eliminate TBL!

spoon.ek9 06-13-2021 01:33 PM

lightning played like shit today

SkinnyPupp 06-13-2021 03:29 PM

Islanders can do it!

DavidNguyen 06-13-2021 04:18 PM

Trotz won't lose back to back series

whitev70r 06-13-2021 05:14 PM

Man .... Vegas vs. Montreal ... that's hella lots of travel for both teams! That would be like a SCF in the pre-Covid days.

EvoFire 06-14-2021 01:17 PM

I've weaned myself a bit from the Canucks, some of it due to bad management, bad trades, bad publicity. A lot of it from the poor way NHL is run. It always feels like 2 steps forward 2 steps back with the NHL. The reffing is a joke half the time, regular season and playoffs play like 2 complete different rulesets, player safety is a joke.

I kind of followed other teams here and there but nothing is quite like the Canucks as a hometown team. I might be more interested in Seattle, who knows.

DavidNguyen 06-14-2021 03:23 PM

I'm already more interested in Seattle than Canucks lol

MG1 06-14-2021 06:13 PM

Gene Simmons, Wayne Newton, and Elvis.............. Viva Las Vegas!

Half the fans probably have no idea what hockey is all about, but they is having a good time.

MG1 06-14-2021 06:17 PM

Woo hoo!!!!!!!!! 2-0

SkinnyPupp 06-14-2021 06:18 PM

I don't think the Habs will win a game

DavidNguyen 06-14-2021 06:24 PM

Vegas just over powering MTL

price did make that nice save

Price with some highlight reel saves in the second period.

That glove save on the Vegas 2 on 1 was a beauty!

Habs offence is weaksauce now. Their only chance is if they can score more power play goals against the Vegas penalty kill.

Vegas’ PK has been so so throughout the playoffs.
