Anyone here do concrete?

[

Looking for suggestions.

20x20 garage, there are two sections that are raised, 20ftx4ft. Rest of garage is lower by probably 1" - 1/2". Not sure how it got to this point over last 30 years.

Garage is sloped from rear to front for drainage, so self leveling fill is no go.

Goal is to have it as a single pane surface, so i can porcelain tile it, or coat it.

Figure the easiest solution is to fill in all the low points with quickrete, google search says old concrete + new concrete top = no good.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do in regards to making it one flat surface / prep for thinset and tile?

Good luck.

My wife’s uncles roof is finished and I contacted 10+ companies just to temporarily tarp it and only 1 even replied. Small jobs are VERY difficult to find someone to do

Give Stormrider a call (and see if they are actually still in business)

https://stormrider604.com/

I had the person come help me check on a roof leak after the Nov 2021 atmospheric river. His manners were a little rough around the edges, but he was totally a no-nonsense, honest and down to earth kind of guy that I was very comfortable with.

Thx Traum
Honest dude, said if he can service it he would but worst case it’ll be a re/re, he was confident he was able to service it.

Showed me pics of the tiles exposed, reason for water ingress and what he’ll do. Took a look around at the rest of my roof to check for cracks in tiles etc

How much does it cost to fix it? (can PM if you want) I also have a roofleak from a skylight. A guy came by and said when it rains hard, it overflows over the edges. But if it doesn't rain too hard, i haven't seen it leak. He quoted me $1500 to fix it. I've been hesitant to fix it still and will probably ask for a few more quotes.

In regards to my previous post the only company that ever got back to me and ultimately did the work was Canuck roofing

Everyone I dealt with there seemed pretty competent and they came and gave me a follow up quote to replace the roof etc.

I also see them quite often working on houses on the west side

I went with Kerrisdale Roofing a few years ago to replace my ashphalt shingles roof, and found their service to be exemplary.

https://www.kerrisdaleroofinganddrains.com/

They were definitely not the cheapest -- more like mid tier kind of pricing. But they have excellent reviews, and once their project manager came by to take a look and give me a quote, it was easy to see why they were so well liked. The PM made helpful and practical suggestions, and never made any attempts to upsell me on anything.

They were a busy shop though, and with roof replacements being a completely weather-dependent thing, I waited about 3 months from late Nov to early March before they were able to do my roof. Throughout the whole waiting period, the PM gave me realistic time estimates, and kept me informed of my place on their queue when I was 2 - 3 jobs away from becoming their current project.

There is a Company near me that gets ridiculously good reviews and also gives a lot back to the community, I've seen them do free roofs for seniors. I've never used them myself but most things I've seen are positive. Google reviews, 62 reviews and an avg. rating of 4.9.

I used these guys last year to replace my roof and they were the cheapest. I'm not an expert but the work seemed fine. https://opengovca.com/vancouver-business/21-146840. Chinese owner, no google reviews. PM me for number if you're interested.

Moving this here for more visibility - basically I think we need a trustworthy handyman.

My dad sent me these pictures saying the faucet's leaking, and the wood countertop it's mounted to has apparently rotted through. That countertop goes all the way around the kitchen so it's unfortunately not straightforward to just replace the countertop (per a suggestion in a previous thread).

He's not looking to renovate the kitchen, just needs that area repaired so that he can install a new faucet. What kind of business should he be searching for, to help with that? A general carpenter? Or is this job too small for that?

Taking recommendations if anyone's had a good experience getting repair jobs like this done!

From my untrained eye, the shitty way of doing it is to scrape out all the rot, and put a block of wood there and glue/screw/whatever method you want to attach it to the counter and put in a new faucet if that's the culprit.

TBH I don't think the faucet is the issue, but rather the faucet wasn't sealed to the sink and the water seeped between over time.

The CORRECT way to do it is to replace the counter top. That counter is MDF, there's really no saving it.

donk, i know a good concrete guy, very honest and has always been reasonable to us. my dad used him to do his driveway, and we used him to level our shop office and bathroom which had like an 9" slope over 17'. he's actually coming to the shop again this week sometime to do a little repair work. when he comes by i will show him your pics and see if he's interested. i know he's really busy atm, he was supposed to stop by twice this week but postponed.

i was thinking the same, get a piece of scrap wood 2" x 6" and core 2 holes for the hot & cold to screw it up against so your faucet isn't rocking around.

2x6 is probably too big both wide and thick for that.

Get a peice of 1x4 pressure treated. Even then I’m not sure if that will be too thick to thread the handles back on depending on how they attach

Thanks guys.

Does anyone know of a handyman that could do something like that?

My dad's too old (and probably not handy enough anyway) to handle this on his own, and I'm not often in town.

If you look at this manual for a comparable model:

https://images.homedepot.ca/pdf/2019...299512-pdf.pdf

The handles for each side of the water likely have a little set screw that’s typically an Allen key etc. it will likely be under the bent “handle” part or at the back side of each handle

If he’s capable of popping the handles off, it may just be a matter of tightening the “bonnet nut” or comparable under the handle

If someone is going to fix this, I’d highly suggest just replacing the entire faucet. This type is very cheap to buy new

So it looks like I have a diseased tree at home, and to remove it, I'll need to hire an arborist and tree removal company.

Would anyone have recommendations for that?
