I'm planning to buy an ND2 soon, but the idea of an S2000 keep nagging at me from the back of my mind.

I have very mixed feelings about the Stang. It's like one of those friends you meet who are easy to get along with but you know you won't become 'good friends' with them.

It's in its flow state when it's a daily driver or on the highway; very easy to live with. Standard driving position, tons of torque, pretty great interior and cargo space, etc. In November, the soft top is loud in the rain for a couple minutes till it absorbs some water and becomes pretty quiet.

What the Mustang fails to do well is be a good partner when you're driving it harder. The two ends of the car don't feel like they're talking to each other, the steering's numb, the transmissions suck, and the rear end behaviour is incredible unpredictable.

I think you meant to say FUN instead of unpredictable

I do like your little saying though, you could be a guy who appears in a rap video with nerd glasses on for a short interlude at pool-side by all the booty shaking saying "This rear end behaviour is incredibly unpredictable"... go viral... win!

HAHAHA first video that came to mind (Get Your Booty to the Poll Official PSA):

For real tho, the Charger was hella fun to slide around - super predictable and pretty easy to control.

you might get the opposite experience with the s2k though, have to push it to have fun
miata will strike a good balance given you're okay with a cabin that 'fits' around you and a trunk much smaller than the mustang

I certainly don't mind the smaller cabin - test drove an ND2 and thought that was pretty fun no matter what I was up to on the road.

I haven't driven an S2k yet, but I do worry that it'll be the better car for the 10% of hard driving that I do. The prospect of relatively low ownership cost is appealing though.

As someone who owns both, how do you feel about them?

you switch cars a lot right?

i'd go nd like the video says out of accessibility of actually able to find one

but if it's long term and you're a patient honda guy wait for a clean 06+ and tune for lower vtec (not sure if there are long term implications)...should you sell you wont lose a penny on the s2ks

parts are a toss up really: ND will be cheaper on consumables less selection but not bad, oem s2000 parts can be discontinued $$$ but aftermarket can still be reasonable, and the selection is better

Honda had plans to re-start production of many OEM parts for the S2000 in June. I wonder if that actually happened with COVID.

Mmm all good points.

Any thoughts on 05 vs 06 S2000? I'm curious about you specifying 06+ since 05+ are AP2.

I'll give myself some time in the spring to hunt for an S2k, having the ND2 around as a backup is a pretty great backup.

I used switch cars a fair bit since they used to be paid for by work, but my roadster purchase will likely be for a longer term keeps.

Ideally, I'd just buy both...

.
04/05 are drive by cable, no traction control and slightly different ecu.
06-09 are drive by wife, have VSA, and the ecu can be flashed.

Those are the biggest performance differences that I remember.

A few interior differences too.

wow...
that power in the dyno makes it look like they severely underrated the specs.
On paper, the GR86 specs only seem to be a bit more than the prev gen 86.
But on the dyno, it's 209whp/175wtq vs. 162whp/130wtq
