What Do You Collect?

In my travels, I have met people with the darnest collections. Everything from labels, tools, and containers to jewelry, watches, and dolls.

I'm a philatelist. Been collecting since I was 9 or 10 (maybe younger). I specialize in Canada mint. I also collect other things like static model kits, Coca Cola items, and Olympic paraphernalia. Actually, thats just some of the hundreds of things I collect. I think I got it from my mother, who was into spoon collecting. She didn't travel much and most, if not all, were obtained from friends and family. She has anywhere from 150 to 200 spoons. Any time I went on a band trip, I would bring back a spoon or six to add to her collection. Nobody else in my family collects stuff. Only me.

I know quite a few RS members collect watches and stuff, but what are some of the more obscure things some of you collect?

I used to know a coworker who collected plates and tea sets. Royal Doulton, Royal Albert, etc. I went to his apartment once and I couldn't tell what the colour of the walls were, as they were covered in fine china. Another person I know collects Nabob Coffee items. Everything and anything to do with Nabob, of all things.

I recently, like three months ago, got into Zippo lighters. I now have 30+ really cool zippo lighters.

Anyway, post what's in your collection. I can just imagine what Berz collects.

serious collecting or just casual..........

When I started out, I was fascinated by the designs of the stamps. The engraving process and the theme of the stamp. Early Elizabethan Canada stamps were amongst the most intricate of designs. One of my all time favourites.........

I’ve got a collection of cookbooks as well, can’t say I’ve ever made anything from them though

Used to collect retro games, sold off my collection back in the summer as it was just collecting dust.

Feels like as a kid used to enjoy collecting stuff more, had a decent stamp, hockey card, even POG collection lol..

Now I’m like the antithesis of a hoarder and anything that just takes up space is gone. So I’d say if I collect anything it’s just peices from trips I’ve been on. Ie. the peice of the Berlin Wall I almost needed stitches to get

The Mrs. has a collection of cookbooks as well which sit nicely in our bookcase untouched for the most part.

My collections mostly have to do with travel - Random handicrafts and factory made-in-china souvenirs.
I have a collection of Lonely planet guidebooks - about 50 of 'em
Also a ton of fridge magnets as well - enough to cover an entire freezer door with about a 1in space between each one

Tattoos.

Try to get one at least once in each country I visit, depending on the quality of artists available.

Used to collect 1:24 scale Jada die cast vehicles...have about 120 on display and another 20 in boxes since I lack shelf space.

I also like shoes and have been slowing amassing too many pairs. On a Vans kick recently, much to my wife’s chagrin

I've always attempted to collect money. However, I seem to be rather bad at doing this, so I am ending up like punkwax here...

However, as space as well as money increasingly become an issue, the collecting has pretty much stopped. I still read fan subs and Viz.com, but in the last 10 years or so, I have probably only bought 1 additional set of manga, and only because that one is an absolute classic.

Air Jordan sneakers, the ones he wore back in the day with Chicago and not these goofy "just designed today" colorways

own every stinking model but stopped because i had everything and got it out of my system - plus these new & higher quality price hike costing $300+ a pair got out of hand to me, it gave me more reason to stop buying them esp when you buy one to wear & another to stock.. you're easily spending a fuck load of money on crappy material shoes.

the beauty of this story is i grew up poor and watched kids rock the Pump up Reebok shoes & later Nike basketball shoes that i always wanted but unable to..

I collect quality pipes from around the globe, even have had a few custom pipes carved. I smoke them all; though other collectors think it is sacrilege, I look at it two ways: that is the reason they were made and I really don't care about the value when I'm no longer here to enjoy smoking them.
