TB GM even said they all knew this was their last chance as a team and that was part of what motivated them. They were a great team for like 4-5 years and won a cup twice in a row. Not very often we see a team this good for this long. Of course cheating the salary cap helps a LOT. I'm sure they'll get a fine for that.
Tampa could win again next year too, as long as their core stays together.
That would require them to play an actual 82 game schedule. lol

My guess is they won't because it's not the Vancouver Canucks.
Canucks weren't really a bottom feeder this year imo, but at the same time I don't expect anything outstanding from them either. Too many bad contracts, dumb trades/signings.

Will they actually get a fine?
I thought it was well within rules, but they just abused the loophole to the max.
I'm not fully aware of the situation, but when I was skimming through twitter yesterday, some comments were saying there was some kind of vote to have salary cap in the playoffs and TBL was one of the teams that voted for it, but they lost the vote, and then ironically ended up abusing it?
Anyone have info about that?

They are not going to get a fine. They played within the rules as they are written.
The NHL will just adjust those rules going forward but there’s not gonna be any disciplinary action. They basically said as much on the broadcast last night

Buttman can do anything, they can make up retroactive rules if they don't like the team ... eg. Luongo salary recapture rule. Gillis played within the rules and then look what happened!
Yeah I was just being sarcastic, any Canucks fan knows that TB won't be fined with a retroactive rule.
Canucks are well coached and most of the team tries very hard. That's something I appreciate about the team that will make me give them a chance over and over. There's always a chance for a cinderella run for them, and those are the most exciting. They might get destroyed in the end, but you never know.
Imo the Canucks have more long term upside than the Habs. These flash in the pan type runs are very dangerous because you think you’ve got the team to go deep again but with Price getting older, Weber wearing the C, and players like Ghallager etc. On the downside of their career it’s going to be interesting to watch

That was Benning's thought process last year hahaha.

Tyler Johnson's contract is difficult ot move unless TB buys him out
Brayden Point has one more year left
Ondrej Palat could get moved
but the scariest thing about this TB team that just won the cup?
with the exception of McElhinney, the backup goalie, the oldest guy is Ryan McDonagh... team is young, lots of skill, lots of free agents.
no way this TB team looks remotely the same. That core has to drop a few guys
TB is heads and shoulders above the other teams. If kuch/point/hedman/vasil remain healthy, they can afford to lose a few from Palat/Gourde/TJ/Stamkos/Killorn/McDonagh and still remain extremely competitive.

Montreal may have the best draft capital in the league going forward though. Good chance to rebuild while keeping strong leadership in place
They have two 2nd round picks, three 3rd round, three 4th round, three 5th round, and an extra 7th

Oh for sure, but there's a lot of money tied up and that entire team is so young, everyone will want a raise. Good thing is they can move a guy like Palat etc..

sure, 11 picks in upcoming draft.. but drafting is a crapshoot.

Draft capital can also be converted to trade capital
They are in a very good spot considering they were in the finals. If the GM is smart he can improve the team in any way they need
