If there are videos of him doing the same pose to other players that aren’t black, then I’d accept the apology.
With that said, trash talking occurs in all sports. When you’re trying to get under the skin of your opponent, I’m sure much worse things are said, especially during the heat of the moment. Just don’t get caught, I guess?

Canucks could have pulled their goalie 10 minutes ago, Blues haven't had a shot since then 
Good defense, bad goaltending (understandable), tons of easy shots, but some breaks as well. Weird game.

As for overreaction, the league suspended him pending review which seems fair. And then the team released him which is their choice not to have racist players on their team. Seems to always be unstable and flopping on the rebound chances. I'm not sure if he's being trained to play a more athletic style because he's not as big, but compare his game to Martin and it's night and day difference.
Tonight's first 2 goals weren't his fault though, the 3rd one was bad.

You and I are not racists, so it wouldn't even occur to us that the gesture could plausibly mean two things, but it's the exact type of thing those people often do - things that border on the line of plausible deniability. Like "Proud Boys was formed just as a joke" and "the OK symbol being used by racists was created by trolls" and shit like that. That's where terms like gas lighting, dog whistles can come into play if you want to debate it (I don't, not here at least)
Sometimes things that might get a pass in a court of law because of this deniability still don't pass the sniff test.. If something seems shitty, it probably is. This is where character comes into play. And if this guy was dumped that fast by his team, it's probably something that they knew might happen.

I don’t know the guy or know if he’s a shitty person, but I think you have to at least take his explanation and do some research to see he really has made the same motion before as he says he has. Automatically assuming it’s a dog whistle / KKK thing is not practical… UNLESS he has a shitty history and has ties to groups or has done things like this before.
I can understand how it could get pretty messed up and misinterpreted as much as I can understand what needs to happen if it was in fact intentional.
I’m not really swayed by his team dropping him one way or another, nobody wants to deal with the fires of controversy anymore and these guys are extremely replaceable hockey players if they’re in that league so why even bother?

This incident also felt overblown and a bit of quick cancel culture reaction.
It is possible that both individuals are right. #15 did not have racial intentions. Subban interpreted it as a racial taunt (maybe due to a history of taunts growing up) and he went off.

You have to check with the refs to see what exactly happened. Or did he use the n word?
I do feel there's a bit of bullying on Subban's side. In the name of fighting racism, he's basically using social media and his brother's name in talking shit to this guy and leading the hockey community in excluding the player.

It's beyond my control.
Fact remains, black people will be sensitive to anything and everything they deem racist. Same for indigenous people and people from asia. It's not for me to judge whether it is or not.
I don't want to come across as taking this too seriously or too lightly. But it is the flavor of the month so all eyes will be on it. But for too long, it was swept under the rug.
Here's an example. Last week the Bruins retired Willie O'Ree's jersey.
So when will NYR retire #8?
