Avery is 41 years old, was a cancer every team he went to, last played in 2012, tries to make a comeback this week and gets released by the ECHL team days afterwards, and is shitting on 23 year old Clayton Keller (who already has more points than in his entire career).
5 goals allowed within 5.5 minutes of play when they walked in with a 7-2 lead lol. Sure, they won the game but this really, REALLY highlights defensive as well as goaltending issues that have been going on for awhile now.
The thing is, even if we squeak into the playoffs will we make it very far? Chances are highly unlikely. As much as it would suck to lose a key piece or pieces of our current core we need to somehow stop the cycle of mediocrity.
Let's not forget we're right up against the cap with very few good prospects in the system to fill in key roles. Defense is our biggest issue with a glaring need for a top 4 RHD. We don't have anyone who can fill that role right now outside of trading for/developing a guy.
Don't get me wrong, I obviously would cheer for us if we get into the playoffs but this isn't a cup contending team. That's just reality. If you guys watch highlights of the top teams, we are nowhere near their caliber. Hell, after last night's game we are finally on the plus side for goal differential and that took us 54 games to accomplish!
tl;dr if would suck but long term, it makes sense to trade someone for what we lack. no one will bring in a bigger haul than JT.
I don't care about the playoffs this year, what's the point of squeaking in and getting smoked the first round and then our draft pick won't be even close to as good as it should be. I like the long game right now, build this team the way it always should of been built. We have the main core and we just need more pieces and most importantly cap space which we are seriously lacking.

So you don't want to follow in the footsteps of the Leafs ... ... good.
Same here. Don't want the trade if it's what people propose on twitter.
prospect plus 1st rounder.
Eichel trade is the bare minimum to start. He had back injury risk plus $10 million contract.
Basically Eichel went for top 6 player plus A prospect plus 1st rounder.
So say from Rangers, it's Laf/Kakko + Schneider/Lundquist + 1st rounder minimum. I rather trade Horvat / Boeser instead.
After pondering this morning if the return is huge for JT I'd be for it. Def Laf/Kakko + 1st rounder and prospects has to be part of the deal. Even with the way JT is playing the Canucks still arent much of a contender. If we keep JT then Boeser will have to be traded and possibly Bo( even though I like him and have his jersey). I'd also say we'd be no better than the Oilers having 2 top players and still just a few points ahead of the Canucks. They are just a complete mess. At least with the Laffs they can literally be 1 or 2 moves away from actually winning the cup.
That's why it needs to be a good haul and not just lottery tickets on hoping the player becomes close to the player JT is today. That's the risk of trading a top 10 scoring player we have in JT.
Honestly, i don't feel like Boeser or Bo been playing to where they should be. Boeser loses puck battles, Bo likes to skate in and loses the puck (only scores when he gets a lucky bounce back to him). JT, Hughes, Garland, and lately Petey are the only guys who drive play during the game.
I do feel like this TDL is going to be offloading the bottom 6 players and bottom half of the d core and that's it. Miller staying. Boeser staying. That is the way of being the Canucks lol
You never know what you are going to get when you trade a top performer for picks and prospects. It could fizzle out, or be a generation defining move.
Look at when Bertuzzi got moved - we got Luongo. Then traded Luongo for Markstrom. By trading Bertuzzi, we were able to solidify our goaltending for over a decade (with a little bit of Ryan Miller in between).
Personally, I would try and re-sign Miller and trade Boeser. Miller holds a lot more value to the team in terms of work ethic and drive that cannot be easily replaced.
There were a few sequences in the Flames game for example... keeping play active on the PP... just subtle little bounces off the boards back to the point and sleight of hand plays or just knowing where teammates are and getting pucks out of danger to them.
He's gotten really good at keeping possession and his forecheck is really good.
He's not anywhere near as flashy as Miller and doesn't drive offense as much... but he also doesn't do stupid shit either.
It stemmed from the season his wrist was bugging him and he wasn't scoring at his rookie pace but he really worked hard at everything else and last year def showed not so much this year. I don't want to take anything away from Boes. He's a strong 2nd liner on a good team but maybe everyone here just had too high of an expectation on him. He makes an excellent complimentary player but it's not in him to put the team on his shoulders
