That looks like the bastard child of a Crosstrek and an Accord (or whatever sedan it is with very similar rear lights).

Who is supposed to be buying this? If I wanted a slightly higher, slightly rugged (?) Subaru, why would I not buy the even higher, even more practical Crosstrek?

Truth! I loved my '07 STI but once the GR came out it all kinda sank for me. 97-07 was a good run for them.

Not sure what to like about this new WRX. It looks like a Urus and a UX ganged the current gen and this is the result 9 months later WutFace

I think we're forgetting that it looks the way it does because of future electrification.

I saw someone "paint" the plastic body cladding on photoshop and holy shit the car was thiccc. You can see exactly how much height the car really has. The plastic body cladding IMO is just to try and get buyers used to it when they go full EV to hide the height, exactly like what Ford did with the Mach E.

Just looking at those pics makes me miss my old WRB Bugeye even more.

Spot the difference

Whoever's decision it was to make the cool options only available with a fucking CVT should be fired. Or even to give the thing a CVT in the first place.

!Aznboi128 09-13-2021 08:42 AM

Hear me out, I don't think CVT is THAT bad.

keeping the engine within the optimal RPM will allow the turbo to continuously spool. In theory it makes sense.

I know CVTs suck and they just drone when you floor it but who cares you're not buying the CVT it's for those who want an easier driving experience.

AstulzerRZD 09-13-2021 09:17 AM

Alrighty, so Subaru took their sweet time to.....

- Rip the side profile off an Aztek
- Rip the front of a base 2017 Civic hatch
- Rip the back off the Forte/last gen Elantra
- Put a Nintendo 3DS in the infotainment screen
- Add 3HP with the same torque curve

They did the WRX durty.

Alpine 09-13-2021 09:57 AM

I think this is happening: WRX = CVT, STI = Manual. At least until they can develop/access a dual clutch.

I heard the Subaru one stacks CVT lag with turbo lag

TypeRNammer 09-13-2021 11:04 AM

I had a 2016 WRX with CVT transmission and over all it's actually not too bad, I can say that it's a ALOT better than the Nissan CVT transmissions.

JDMDreams 09-13-2021 12:17 PM

Will it make it to 100k Kms doe? Or will it blow with the head gaskets:accepted:

It's their version of having VTEC kick in.

ive heard the problem is due to their design layout of boxer engine and awd they cant really use something off the shelf so they have to use in house transmissions for everything. given the popularity of the manual and limited use for a dual clutch in any of their other products i doubt we will ever see a dct wrx/sti.

that being said the new impreza platform has hybrid capabilities and a performance hybrid with cvt might make it worthwhile

Sign me up for that revised look

Even with the JDM S4 Sti Performance trim, it still looks like a turd

FA motors dont get headgasket issues. They simply head straight for the Rod knock.. One of the weakest points on the FA20 motor.. Curious to see how this FA24 holds up to any sort of performance mods..

Understanding Japanese didn't make it any less ugly unfortunately

You can get autotranslated captions, works well enough

320icar 12-18-2021 03:35 PM

So, is it the wrx or the STi? I’m confused

https://www.yankodesign.com/images/d...odesign-10.jpg

Teriyaki 12-18-2021 11:48 PM

It's a WRX S4 tuned by STi, still not balls to the wall STi. Though, we don't even know if they'll release a true STi ever?

Also, that white Levorg right in front of the blue WRX. Bring back the hatch!!!

JDMDreams 12-19-2021 09:01 AM

I really wonder why they got rid of the hatch. Considering Subaru people love hatches and wagons. Even civic is doing hatches. And Toyota is getting back into the hot hatch game
