Oh Canada

This thread is about all things Canada. Our country. The rich history and culture. The country is in turmoil at the moment, but even more the reason why we should explore it. You cannot erase history. Understand the past. So important. Please keep politics out of this thread. We already have enough of that in other threads. Accomplishments of Canadians and what our country represents. How we are perceived by other nations. Contributions in the development of technology, health care, visual and performing arts, etc.

Ever since I was a child, I loved everything Canada. It was probably the reason I got into stamp collecting. I don't collect other countries or themes. Just Canada. I knew more about the history of Canada than most of my elementary school socials studies teachers. Famous Canadians like Pauline Johnson, Nellie McLung, Frederick Banting, Group of Seven, Cabot, Cartier, Champlain, Montcalm and Wolfe, Louis Riel, Alexander Graham Bell (although not 100% Canadian), etc. Events in our country's history. Our history is, as much, or more rich than that of the US. As I look at the stamps issued over the years, you see how our country has been shaped. The world wars, cold war, acceptance of immigrants, etc. Our natural beauty, as well as, the rich indigenous flora and fauna is incredible (indigenous means, "of or from a place," not just referring to peoples).

https://www.historymuseum.ca/event/t...mp-collection/

I know many here don't appreciate what this country offers. Complaints and whining with no solutions. This thread might die right here and now, but stop and think about some positive things about this place we call home. I love this country. A proud Canadian, I am.

One of the most famous stamps from Canada was that of the Bluenose. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluenose_(postage_stamp)

Maybe father/son issues............ still mad I never took him to the PNE. Getting me a grandson would mend the relationship and get him a really nice car, 'cause that's what asian fathers do...........

I posted that a while back and was quickly corrected. It was the British. But we are/were, British North America. So I still say it sort of counts.

I was in Lunenburg hoping to see the Bluenose, but it was not in port at the time. Quite disappointed, but that part of Canada is really amazing. It's oozing with history. And, the kindest people you'll ever meet. Night and day compared to the majority of west coasters.

^I got to walk on the Bluenose replica in Lunenburg (I lived 4? blocks away) back in 2002. Also got a look at the official house which the captains of the Bluenose resided. So much history in that town and it looked like the setting of a movie with how historic and beautiful it was there. Got to touch a section of the Berlin Wall, which had been brought to and displayed in Lunenburg. I remember exploring graveyards there and looking for the oldest ones. The gravestones were so worn, but I could read one from 1809 or so. Great people too and I hope to visit again someday.

Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What an honour!

I have to keep it real right now... With the way our country is being run right now and with everything going on I'm no longer proud to be Canadian. Canada has turned into a joke and I can't see it getting better anytime soon.

I've spent a bunch of time in the U.S. south. Atlanta, Chattanooga, Birmingham, Nashville, etc. Hospitality is much much better than Vancouver. There is rampant racism and huge cultural divides, but Georgia and Alabama provide some of the best service when going to restaurants, bars, hotels, etc. Southern hospitality is a real thing.

There’s more to Canada than Vancouver. I would say things out here has deteriorated to the point it is downright embarrassing.
