Yet everyone I work with has a 50k car. Depressing af.
Well, people aren't buying houses on their own anymore - a property that is larger than a 1-bedroom/studio requires two incomes nowadays.

Everything these days is costed to monthly payments. A 50K car is not that expensive if leased or if financed over 7/8 years (which is crazy). It's the same with homes - the majority of households are looking at monthly costs.

Anyway, I officially hit mid-life this year. After putting 2 kids through daycare, doing a Masters, and upgrading to our long-term home during the pandemic, I figured it was time to get back into the hobby, so I picked up one of these a few weeks ago:

Pretty much out of the scene nowadays but would be curious what's the new budget UHP tire now in case I ever find time to do some events.
Shops in the GTA stopped selling Federal due to increased costs and manufacturing/supply chain delays. I picked up a set of Federal Evoluzion ST-1s for pennies on the dollar (clearance price) and they've held up well over the past few years, including some DE days. By no means am I a good driver (still a noob) but I got laughed at and ridiculed by some Pcar funboiz until I either kept up with them or outpaced them in. Instructors were even impressed.

These tires will probably will be good for another 2 years given how little I drive. I believe 1010Tires may be the only shop that might (emphasis on might) still carry or be willing to order them in, but I could be wrong. It took a while for them to be broken in and for them to really perform well. Having said that, and like westopher, I wouldn't buy them again.

Car seats being one of those expenses (I have 5):

But, when I brought the E46 vert home for the first time and showed my daughters the roof being opened, the look on their faces was priceless. Their birthdays are this week so I will be taking them each out for a drive with the top down for the first time, which is a memory that will last a lifetime.

My E46 has latch anchors on the bottom of each back rest and a top anchor underneath the tonneau cover. The bottom anchors are not labelled, but if you feel in between the seat cushion and the back rest, you will find them. I had to partially close the top to get access to the top anchor. Once I had the tonneau cover lifted, I slid the top anchor strap underneath the headrest and attached it to the metal anchor. The metal anchor also doesn't have a label, like a modern car, but you'll see it once you have the tonneau cover lifted.

Because of the angle of the vert's seats, I had to slip a pool noodle underneath the base of the car seat to ensure that the base was level.

^ that’s awesome. You’re right the memories for the kids will last a lifetime and likely influence their future buying habits. P.s jealous you got real backseats. Pretty sure mine are for chihuahuas only.

A 2-seater would have saved me more space in the garage, but in the end, the convenience of a usable backseat in my mind outweighed any of the handling, or image benefits of having a 2-seater.

Internal combustion engines and human-driven cars are endangered and the next generation will probably look back at the elder millennials (like me) in the same manner as millennials look at boomers - entitled, self-centred, planet-destroying ogres. What motivated me (aside some thoughts about my own mortality) was the opportunity to give my kids some carefree memories because they'll be living in a pretty different world than the one we know today as adults.

The convertible experience is unfortunately something that likely I won't be able to ever give my kid again anymore. It was definitely something I wanted to do when I still had the Miata, but the times didn't align, and it was sold during a time when I wasn't really able to drive the car at all.

Sigh...

There should be some tether points for your child seat, no? Your owner's manual should indicate where and how to connect to your child seat.

For your own sake, I hope your wife isn't reading this LOL!

LOL Yes I'm a Certified Passenger Safety Technician so I check car seats for their installs and safe of use.

Best way to know if your car seat is installed properly. If the seat moves side to side across the belt path more than 1" with your non-primary hand it's not installed properly.

Make sure to always check the vehicle owners manual and car seat owners manual. Some seat will not allow you to put anything under the seat for a proper level install.

For forward car seat installs they're generally quite straight forward, seat belt is used to tie the car seat down. when tightening the straps push the seat down and back towards the base and backrest of the seat. once the seatbelt is installed and tightened install upper anchor (needed in Canada) tighten the upper anchor so that it's snug but doesn't pull the seat up.

If you need a hand with the install or a check, send me a PM we can work out a time and I can come take a look.
