The irony is that if it wasn't for Pierre Trudeau, there would be no Charter of Rights and Freedoms in Canada. He was the driving force for entrenching individual rights as part of Canada's constitution. If it hadn't been for him, individual rights and freedoms could be legislated away depending on the whims of the government of the day. (and no, the 1961 Bill of Rights doesn't count because it was a federal law that did not have the protection of the prior Constitution). What we are seeing today is a failure of our education system to teach a basic understanding of law and governance. |
I think it was right to put the emergency act, play stupid games win stupid prizes. I'm surprised they didn't step in earlier. It's just to set an example, yes you have the right to protest but you don't have the right to affect other people's freedom and well being. If they didn't do anything then the next hillbilly group can just do the same thing. Tree huggers, flat earther, pipe liners etc etc. And these demands have no scientific/ logical backing. How the f are you gonna have no restrictions in a pandemic. What if there's a new variant? Everyone goes outside to mouth breath and yell freedom?? :lawl: any laws don't apply to your personal freedom? Then get the fuck out of Canada and buy your own country. |
Classic 101 foundational principle. Of course you have personal freedoms and rights but when you live with others in a society, city, nation, etc., someone (government) has to balance things out for the common good. And in a democracy, we elect that government. It's like some people cannot hold 2 or more ideas together at the same time. |

From what I understand, the government needs to pass their reasons for invoking the emergency act to the house & senate for a confirmation vote within 7 days. So it will be interesting if this passes through when that happens. |

Turd stops a truck full of pillows “heheh we’re winning!” |
I clapped reading that... Imagine the CEO of an actual company saying stuff like "made up a permit!" and not knowing vaccination policies to cross into another country... lol |

pat king has now left Ottawa. What a loser. https://twitter.com/kimsopha2/status...434616839?s=10 and this: |
These people are literally the same who invaded the Capitol Building on 1/6, just some Canadians being duped into following them. |

From tonight: Tamara Lich - believes she is going to jail soon/tmr: EDIT: this is from Sunday apparently, he's been in Ottawa still. Pat King - being an "investigative journalist" and skipping town to go to New Brunswick to cover something "big": Some people think he's not actually heading to NB, but going into hiding for what is potentially to happen soon/tmr in Ottawa. |
By god that was a good watch. 5/5 would recommend |

One particular item that I think was done under the Emergency Act was to close down at least 2 of the crowdfunding efforts for the "truckers" -- I think they were GoFundMe and Give Send Go. My layman understanding of the law is woefully inadequate here, but I suspect the power to do this would lie outside of provincial jurisdiction. So even though the Emergency Act seems heavy-handed, I suppose there is enough justification for it? |
Pat has 5 many things to do in NB Surprised he can count that high! |
