Sci-Fi Movies/TV Series

Just watched second episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Saw the credits. Executive Producer Eugene Rod Roddenberry. Majel Barrett was mentioned in there, somehow. Majel, of course, was married to Gene Roddenberry. She played roles in just about every Star Trek series. Nurse Chapel, Lwaxana Troi, and voiced in the animation series. Her only son, Eugene Rod Roddenberry followed in his father's footsteps.

Majel also produced Andromenda (filmed in Vancouver).

Majel passed away, but why is she in the credits?

Anyway, a new Dune is out. Haven't watched it yet, but I remember watching the first one. Star Wars is such a rip off of Dune. George Lucas is a thief, lol. Star Wars is, of course, much better.

So many great Sci Fi series to talk about/discuss. Anyone here a fan of Stargate series?

SkinnyPupp 05-13-2022 07:22 AM

After all the whacky, violent, over produced Star Trek series - some decent like Discovery, some awful like Picard - We finally got a good throwback series. Fucking thank god!

supafamous 05-13-2022 07:57 AM

Love the first 2 eps of Strange New World - like many have said, it's a throwback and it works with that cast. Picard has been such a mess in 2 seasons.

I'm not sure if I want to see a new version of Dune. the dated steampunk special effects has a certain charm and something I really like about it.

MG1 10-26-2022 06:37 PM

Maybe way off topic, but I'm slogging through Stargate SG-1 reruns. It's so hilarious catching all the easter eggs and stuff I missed the first time around. Of course, there's the familiar filming locations (filmed in and around Vancouver). Seeing signs on buildings that should have been taken down for filming and such. Season 4 episode 16 "2010" Jack and the SG-1 crew are planning on sending a message back in time. Jack says, "Can we send who won the Superbowl, the World Series?" Dr. Jackson: No. "How about the Grey Cup?" lol........ Cabin in the woods........ supposedly in Minnesota. Uh, no.

supafamous 10-26-2022 06:45 PM

Anyone else watch For All Mankind? I binged it in the last month and loved it.

MG1 10-26-2022 06:59 PM

Never heard of it, but looks good.

where to watch? Apple TV only?

Mikoyan 10-26-2022 07:24 PM

Was Majel the computer voice? Besides her live action roles, she was the voice of the Federation computers since Star Trek The Next Generation.

Yep, Apple TV only. The first half of the first episode is pretty slow which is why I didn't watch it when it first came out. I gave it another shot this past month and couldn't stop watching it.

MG1 10-26-2022 10:08 PM

Well, I have the free three month Apple TV offer that came with the Apple TV+ console. I haven't activated it yet. Only wanted to watch the Friday Night Jays' game.

thanks...............

I've watched a season and a half but have been finding it slow and boring. I normally like shows like this as well.

mikemhg 10-27-2022 11:48 AM

Babylon 5 still goes down as my favorite sci-fi show on TV. The story was so damn good.

Not sure if it still holds up though, some of the effects in the early seasons were pretty awful :lol

murd0c 10-28-2022 02:46 PM

I'm rewatching Stargate SG1 right now. almost finished the 7th season. One of my all time favorite shows by far.

MG1 11-11-2022 06:36 PM

Just watching Stargate SG-1. Season 6 episode episode 1 - "The Other Guys."

O'Neill: So, Teal'c, who do you think is going to win the Cup?
Teal'c: What cup?
O'Neill:Lord Stanley's Cup. Hockey, ice, skates.......... we went to a game once.
Teal'c: I believe the Vancouver Canucks will win. They are formidable warriors.........

Without saying it, O'Neill's like, WTF?

Two episodes ago. A town full of Goa'uld is referred to as a little town on the Oregon Coast called, "Steveston." It was indeed filmed in Steveston. I even recognize the inside of one of the buildings, lol. kunoman, if you're still around, you would know which building it was.

One of the alien planets involved in a civil war, has three countries going at it. One of them is Kelowna.............

Everytime they shoot a scene of a city/palace/fortress/whatever, they place the image of the place with the North Shore Mountains in the background. Shot from Little Mountain (Queen Elizabeth Park).

SFU shown so many times. Erickson would be proud. They also use Bridge Studios as a scene.

Vancouver City Hall must be in one of the episodes........ so Art Deco.

"With all due respect." Used at least a dozen times in every episode.

SG-1 was pretty good
i actually like atlantis b/c the wraiths seemed badass

this 'new dune', is it a series, or sequel to the movie reboot that came out a few years back? i didn't mind the movie reboot so i wouldn't mind if there was a sequel movie to check out.

battlestar galatica reboot with a female starbuck and the 2 movies were one of my all time sci-fi favs

68style 11-15-2022 09:04 AM

I think Expanse is my favourite sci-fi show of all time. I grew up on ST:TNG and parts of DS9 so they all hold a place in my heart as does Star Wars of course... but as far as TV shows go I think Expanse had the most going for it for me. Not hospital clean like Star Trek, not as safe as Star Wars... grungy and Shadowrun type elements to it. Great characters too.

I'm a big fan of SG Atlantis as well, the same but different spin on it and no question the Wraith is a different sort of enemy.

I'm shocked no one has said X-Files yet, for me that's hands down the best Sci-fi show of all time.

I really gotta give this show another try. I tapped out partway through season 1 because I found it horribly boring.

I've been told it gets way better Season 2/3.

fsy82 11-15-2022 11:23 AM

I just watched Warrior Nun on Netflix and was presently impressed

Really digging the expanse as well.

I also like fringe, and sadly ended/cancelled too early

MG1 11-15-2022 08:39 PM

Fringe was good, but went full on retard mode in the end, iirc.I used to look forward to each episode. It's like every television series on the planet. The writers run out of good ideas. Walking Dead, for example. It just gets old.............

A young Mi-Jung Lee reporting on the shooting of the soon to be president (senator) on SG-SG1 S6 Episode 14. Then, I remembered, season 6 aired in 2002. Wow, time flies.

MG1 11-23-2022 01:21 AM

Frick, can't go to sleep now. Watched season one episode two of Urban Legend: The Spider. It was kind of freaky. Then about half an hour later, I get this sore on my forearm. A bite of some kind. It's now swollen..............

GLOW 11-23-2022 09:35 AM

oh yes fringe was a good one, that old guy is great for the role of mad scientist
