hilarious how we laugh at each other...
Asian.. chinese new year... weddings..
and hud 91gt said it to point... at Greek culture.. you all do the same..
Then we asian people laugh at white people for Xmas..
wtf, we all buy stuff for Xmas THINKING that's what they want and they buy the same thing which is also stuff you don't want... at the end.. it all cancells out as well.
Local calls it tradition, foreigners see it as a shock... same same but different.

Well yea. The only race I’ve ever seen which are even remotely as concerned with “saving face” and portraying an image besides Chinese are Greeks lol
Never met one who was actually wealthy though

They own a lot of the container ships that call our ports. I know some very very wealthy Greeks.
Good people, good food. Family focused and epic beards. I wish I could get a beard like that.

Grew up with a few and all of them were exactly the same, spent every dollar they had trying to come off as wealthy etc. then you’d see where they live and it was like brah.. give it a rest lol

Are the movie stereotypes true for Greeks?
Big Fat Greek Wedding? Exuberant dancing and candle lighting. Smashing plates.
Compared to Chinese weddings. Games played on the bride and groom at the reception haha. Toast between bride and groom and their respective families and wedding guests at each table with wine, or hard liquor (e.g. Cognac/whiskey/vodka shots for bride/groom). The usual slideshow presentation of the couple.

Last time I saw him it looked like he had it in limp mode trying to get to high gate to buy some groceries. Haven’t seen it in a year or more now. Probably parked in the garage with 5 digit maintenance bills, but he can still show it off!

The red F430 Spyder parked at the Greek restaurant Vassilis.
How is the food at that place?

The first my big fat Greek wedding isn’t a comedy, it’s a documentary. Minus the windex.
As for being wealthy, not sure. They certainly own a lot of real estate on the west side. Greeks own a lot of Vancouver. Restaurants, bars and night clubs. There is also a ton of douche style Greeks, the younger generation, and some old who can’t rub two cents together. But at the same time a lot of the young ones seem to do really well somehow too. Entrepreneurs yadda. The real rich ones still wear real 80’s track suits… from the 80’s. Lol.

Would you get the same adrenaline drive/effect ... |

First, Canadian banks aren't very good with this. You have to order at least a month before.
Second, due to money laundering regulations, it's always an auto red flag. I used to get called every year from banks to inquire about these once-a-year withdraw/deposits of roughly the same number. Even after multiple years of the very same pattern (withdraw some time before CNY and deposit back a week or so later), I still get calls. Quote:

Just to put things in perspective, I give relatives on my side of the family $50 (2x$25) and my wife's side $10 (2x$5) - and it's discussed in advance so we receive equal in return. My parents will give us and their grandkids $100 each though.
Clearly I'm poor! | Brand new USD is surprisingly compact. A one-million-dollar brick fits in a regular backpack. They come vacuum-sealed and compressed very hard.
A 10k wad is only about half an inch thick when the bills are pressed together. A regular red pocket (at least those from China/Taiwan) should fit without any problem as either 100RMB bill or 1000NTD bill are larger and you can still fit a wad of 100 bills into them.
As I said before, it's really the same thing. You know you are getting it back. Regardless it's $1 or 10000 in the pocket, it wouldn't make a difference.
You just have to accommodate what's considered appropriate for the circle you are in and the person you are giving the red pocket to.
One of my parents' rich friends is truly over the top. He's the reason why I know 1M fits nicely in a backpack. And it's appropriate for the circle he's in. Most of it are with people who he has business with. And it's their way of saying "yeah, we still cool for the next year", without actually saying it out loud. Usually when you aren't cool, you'd just avoid getting it altogether.

This guy here is holding 100k stack and even at 1/10th of that, i dont think it fits into a red envelope. USD is thiccccc as fuck https://www.facebook.com/grantcardon...0226461427737/
thats some insane rich people eccentricities right there. I dont know anyone who would take out a million-dollar brick for Chinese new year, i honestly dont think that kinda shit happens as such large cash transactions would be instantly flagged by the banks, and not worth the hassle/risk to do such a thing. Like youre rich, and yet you shove 1m usd cash into a fucking backpack!? even in a brief case its retarded looking, but a backpack!?!? like what? a hello kitty backpack!?!?!
Why USD anyways? purposely making it harder for yourself to get? like this is the insane rich people shit that makes no sense to me
like i order 500 bucks in 5's and i gotta do that shit a month in advance. Its such a stinking hassle.
Unless you ordered some wack ass huge red evelopes like this, its a pointless endevor

I thought it was important we provide him the currency of his ancestors.

Make sure your kid knows that RMB is useless in practice. They only accept AliPay or WeChat mobile pay now

Unless you ordered some wack ass huge red evelopes like this, its a pointless endevor | Again, this guy is truly over the top. But given the situation he’s in, it’s appropriate when he deals with hundreds if not thousands of people between all the people in his factory, office and business dealings. He does it every year. And it’s needed because the particular social circle he’s in.
The picture you showed is more than a mil and they are not real. I believe they are props https://propmoney.info/prop-currency-dimensions.html
You can actually see the 1m version under it and you can get an idea as the real deal is even smaller.
When they are new and sealed for transportation, it comes in a much smaller package. Package would have prints of federal reserve bank of New York on the plastic and all over the paper band as well. Of course they won’t fit in a small back pack that kid goes to school with. But nothing gigantic like a backpacking bag either.
I’d say most would be surprised how small a 1m brick is. But it’s not that big.
And if your envelope or red pocket can’t fit 100 bills, those are likely the skinny made for foreign markets.

A handful of times.
First time ever was family buying some commercial real estate and the seller requested one thing: to be paid in cash. It might sound weird for people growing up here in Canada where our financial institutions and central banks are quite trustworthy.
But this was in South America. So, albeit not all that common either, it’s not outside of the norm. Went with dad and uncle to bank. They hand them 2 duffle bags and they carried one each. Left the bank by the rear door and into our “taxi” as my dad called it. 1200 dollar for 20min ride in an armor truck with 4 dudes armed with assault rifles to the seller’s lawyer’s office. Once in the conference room, my dad took them out. And told me each of these plastic wrap is a million dollar and some loose stacks to make up the total price.
And that’s when I was surprised how small a mil actually was.
