I'm currently using Blackvue on both my cars.

I also have a VIOFO I'm planning to install when I stop being lazy... I bought it back in boxing week, lol.

Had a F70, currently use a F200. Bought a 70mai for the Lolvo

Paid $119 for the F200, $90 for the F70 and $75 for the 70mai. All great cams at their respective budget.

Sadly, the app no longer works on my F200 unless I use my old phone.

i started looking into a dashcam right after my first hit and run without doing my own homework first. a couple shops all quoted me around $600-800 for brands such as thinkware and blackvue installed, and i said fuck it. now im thinking just gonna get a plug and play setup.

Dude just get a 60 dollar thinkware f70 :alone:, throw in a big SD card and then run the wire up and into your A pillar then down into your foot well. It’s basically invisible. The install is so clean it looks like I paid some schmuck to do it.

As for “hard wiring” it to your fuse box so you get parking mode…. Yah you could do that but then you would need another rear camera and then you’re running two cameras on the battery. Seems a bit much. The only car I have parking mode enabled is the ratrolla and even then it’s not really worth it.

Depends on the model, some higher end 2ch dashcams are already $500-600. But I wouldn't be surprised people charge for the labour. It's the only option (or not do it at all) if you don't know how to DIY hardwire.
Plug and play into the 12v plug is the easiest, just not tidy. I think there's some models with a plug and play kit that use the OBD2 port too. It runs while the car's ignition is on, so basically only whenever you're on the road.


IMO, hardwiring parking mode is a must, but that's up to you to decide. Usually, Hit-and-runs will be when your car is parked. They flee when no one's there to witness it.

$100-200 can get you something decent though. Some of those higher end dashcams just have a ton of features that drive up the cost, but it may not really be all that useful.

i havent done the homework yet. but they said if u plug into a 12v it wont record when parked. and if it doesnt get driven often its it needs a battery pack :okay:

Depends on how your 12V outlet functions in your car. In one of my cars, the 12V outlet cuts power when ignition is turned off. In the other, it doesn't cut power.

For me, it isn't really a big deal. I just use an old (cell phone) power bank to plug the dashcam into if I want to keep monitoring while the car is parked. It's crude, but it works.

You can move the fuse one notch up to keep the 12v always hot

I was renewing my insurance today via online and getting coverage for hit and runs are separate now from the usual comprehensive coverage? Since when did they start doing that?!

It isn't separate -- if you purchase comprehensive coverage, it includes hit and run insurance.

The hit and run option is for those that do not want to buy comprehensive, but still want coverage for just hit and run.

I have comp but it was showing as a separate line item that I don't have hit and run.

The hit and run coverage would obviously cover hit and run claims, and it's meant for those who did not / could not purchase collision coverage.
