Just got back from Japan and surprisingly, didn't gain much weight.
It's warmer now and I can start biking again. Let's see where that takes me, sprinkling some extra cardio in throughout the week.

Lower resting heart rate is always good, until you hit zero |

I try to portion eat now. Only eat 50% of whatever there is and stop. Yes it does mean a lot of to go boxes and reheating but I can't afford to just keep eating.
Then we went to a buffet with all you can eat peking duck, durian, crab legs, oysters etv=c so I went to town trying to recoop the cost back. People were shocked how much i hold back at times LOL.

Lower is generally better (assuming there's no other underlying heart condition). I've got a couple athlete friends (marathoner, triathlons types) who are in the mid-high 40s - for them it's a sign of a heart that's strong enough that it doesn't have to work very hard at rest. At a minimum your resting heart rate is above average.

If it's high then it probably matches up with your resting heart rate.
I'm the mid-high 60s resting (above average for my age) but my cardio is shit (below average @32). When I run I'm often in the 150+ bpm range (which I feel fine with) but I need to raise my cardio level so I can be more in the 130-150 bpm range.

My goal is to get to a 5k in 30-35m - right now I can do about 3.7k in 30 mins.

i dont usually wear my watch during workouts so i only have a few tracking of my runs, but it says heartrate 78-120bpm for a 40 minute run at 5mph on the treadmill last week.
Same with this elliptical thing yesterday. feels weird wearing a watch during the gym. Are these dumb things even accurate? Quote:

Last posted in the 2024 thread Dec 30th was 160.
Currently 155 and lifts are going up so thats a good thing. Basically back to the pre cut 190lbs totals for compound lifts. I have a feeling the weight will go up again with the weekly farmers market a few steps from my place with ca croustille and other good bakeries showing up weekly. Still have a belly but one reason I workout everyday is because food is a pleasure and i get to eat (most of the time with moderation) whatever i want to eat.

Same with this elliptical thing yesterday. feels weird wearing a watch during the gym. Are these dumb things even accurate? | For heart rate and cardio tracking the Apple Watch is accurate enough (some say it's quite accurate) that you can get useful data from it. Cardio tracking (V02) only works on walks/runs which is a bummer - if you don't run you don't get great data but it does seems accurate. My pal runs marathons and is a 55 V02 which maps well to his runs.
Resting heart rate can be a bit spotty (like I'll get a reading 15bpm higher than the trend once in a while) but the trend is useful.
Stuff like exercise minutes or calories burned can be easily manipulated and stuff like the standing up tracker is pretty useless.

maybe something is wrong with my big lazy cow heart.... it doesn't make any sense that it beats so slow. ME GO SEE DOKTOR
So the two blonde chicks who work the counter at the gym are trying to feed me this to counteract ferrari chick's "bad food". According to them, eating honey spareribs pre-workout is a bad idea and so they decided to bring me a bunch of these white people things called.... uhhh ummm Veg-tah-bles? ever heard of this? and its.. uhhh RAW?!?!
i tried it, I wanted to puke. It must be the cum sauce they use.. that blue cheese and ranch dip. DISGUSTING.
Ill go back to my glass of milk and raw durian pre meal, meal, thank you. (great way to clear out any equipment near you).
p.s. i hate my gym. but I reupped for another year due to how cheap it is... 365 dollars is such a steal, I cant say no.

My wife and I have cut out alcohol since January.
Before Christmas, I was around 172 lbs, but today, I'm hovering around 167 lbs and have been at this weight for about the past few weeks. I had been tracking calories for a while too, but as with anything, I've lost a bit of enthusiasm for it over time. One of the biggest changes has been that my pants have been fitting better.
I also trained for the Sun Run this year. Last year, with less focused training, I did it in just over an hour. This year, I ran it in 54 minutes. I'm pretty happy with the result considering that I'm now in my mid-40s.

i cut down alcohol a lot in the past 5 years. when i was with my ex we would socialize a lot more and that meant friends always coming over for beer and wine. lots of hangovers, lots of blurry memories.. fun times but i don't miss the way i felt back then.

I took a quick scan of the results and that'd put you in the top 350 or so of 1400 men in the 45-49 age group or top 600 out of 1900 men in the 40-44 age group.

One of the things I've been working on is celebrating the wins because they become fewer and fewer as you get older.

I would love to track calories but it's too hard. I have no fucking clue what amount of calories are in every kind of food, or what amount of food I had and then calculate calories. or remember to add it to the list because I don't remember to do it later.

No my problem is trying to weigh every fucking damn thing. Ain't nobody got time for that shit especially when you got two kids.
