Yes it would sort of make the road trip portion of EV ownership slightly more bearable but still nothing compared to the flexibility and speed of ICE.

Good luck trying to get that level 3 speed in some hick ass place like Oregon coast or between butt fuck hope to yeehaw Calgary. It’ll still suck. Most of these places have level 2 or a crappy level 3 that can barely output 60kwh

At the rate we're going, in 3 years you'll be able to get an EV with 5000km of range and we won't have to worry about charging anymore.

Exactly why leasing is excellent. On any of these EVs.

Oregon coast is fine, 40 miles btwn 250kW 400V.
The plains (N/S Dakota, Wyoming, Montana) are ~100mi btwn 350kW 800V.
New Mexico is the worst, 150miles + between 350kW ones.

Keep in mind, these 800V cars will have 50-150% higher charge time on 400V superchargers.

GM 350kw becomes 250kw on 400v
iX3 400kw becomes 200kw
Taycan 320kw becomes 150kw
Ioniq 270kw becomes 100-120
Lucid Air 300kw becomes 50kw

Peak figures quoted but GM/Taycan/Ioniq really hold their max charge rate till 60% or so.

The charging curve may be amazing, but this is under the ideal 800V charging infrastructure, right?

And how common are those now?

Super quick check
250kw+, 4+ handles, Plugshare score above 7
Whistler to Seattle (N-S), Pacific Ocean to Leavenworth/Merritt (E-W)

- 45 Superchargers
- 46 Non-Superchargers

Geographically?
in BC, BC hydro is putting up a lot of stations in areas where Superchargers aren't (i.e. going to Alaska)
in Vancouver, I think Supercharger still the most common but some areas like North Van and Surrey are better served by Hydro now.

in US, coverage is fine, if there's a supercharger nearby, there's generally an electrify america or other station nearby.
In the EU, 800V is so much the standard that CLA didn't ship with 400V support at launch.

By count of handles?
Seems like it's still 3:1 for superchargers vs. others.
Tesla will sometimes have 3 sites in the same neighbourhood (i.e. Tukwila/SEA airport area) while EA has one site.

Friggin Toyota has put a $5500 rebate on the C-HR before it's even landed in dealerships .

Meanwhile, no discounts from Subaru!! Except the $750 for triathletes.

The 6.49% interest for the lease kinda kills it though - a 48mo lease is still over $700/mo after taxes while the larger Solterra hovers in the mid $500 range. I was also told the C-HR is a limited model in the Toyota lineup as well FWIW.

Paying cash would avoid the interest on the C-HR, but then you'll eat it in depreciation.

I don't really mind depreciation because it'll amortize over 10-15 years of ownership, but yeah wow that interest rate is ludicrous. Would be better to keep the cash invested at a higher yield.
