this is for his son!? how old is the kid? the kid wont appreciate this sort of attention to detail, or display, he just wanna take them down and play with them.
When i was a wee little hobz, i used to take shit apart, rebuild them into my own grand designs.... making mechs and stuff cuz i really wanted to play mechwarrior 2, but didnt have a PC capable of running such a thing.

ya my boys are in to minecraft and sort of outgrew lego.
my younger teen still plays with lego.
speaking of mechwarrior, i got a MOC maurader II aka officer battle pod if you watched robotech (in NA, aka macross) growing up, a few months back.
i just got him to build it for me and helped for complex pieces (or if 1 or 2 pieces were missing b/c aliexpress LOL)
waiting for aliexpress soundwave to drop in price lol

Never messed with them afterwards lol. but then, I recognize that I'm sort of OCD and wasn't like most kids my age.
PS: my cunt of a sister destroyed my entire collection one day by knocking down the shelf on top of my desk where they were all being displayed. she knew how much it meant to me to keep them mint.

wow! You were/are/am a pretty special kid. I thought the whole point of building lego was to add stuff and unleash your inner creativity.
When i was a little retard, I only built them up 1 time. I immediately went about taking them apart, adding things, etc. Especially when it came to my pirate ship, I wanted them to float. The old LEGO sets never floated. i was very disappointed when i put my pirate ship into the bathtub and it sank instantly.
Destroyed in faith in humanity.
For the space sets, i had this weird obsession where i had to fill the cockpit with bricks to make them air tight... bothered the shit out of little 7-8 year old me that i could reach in with my finger and touch the minifig.. HOW IS HE SUPPOSED TO FLY IF IT'S NOT SEALED STUPID!??!?!?!?!
I was a weird little boy.

We are similar retards. I also took them apart immediately afterwards, messed around with them, and then moved on to free-building something else (usually some kind of spaceship type thing). I liked having to improvise when I didn't have the obvious / enough pieces to meet my needs. I also liked smashing stuff into them, and then reinforcing them for better resilience the next time.

In grade 4 I built a medieval castle of my own design that could swing open from the middle so you could see inside. Some of my classmates accused me of lying because they didn't believe I built it myself. Slow motherfuckers.

Do you guys remember the Lego Digital Designer tool? It let you design your own lego kits and box. The CAD software generated instruction booklets based on your build order.
Then you ordered it and it showed up as a legit looking lego kit!
I threw this together around 2010:

doesnt that get impossible to sort and find the pieces when its time to rebuild it, especially for the big kits? | I would take it apart completely. Makes storing a lot easier than if it was thrown into a bin.

^especially my pirate ship! | I had/have the same pirate ship, the hull is multiple pieces so it won't float. The one I have that does float is the 4011 Cabin Cruiser from 1991.
The hull is one huge piece and it's hollow (?) Quote:

doesnt that get impossible to sort and find the pieces when its time to rebuild it, especially for the big kits? | I did that once with my big Tie Fighter, so all the pieces were grey and black. It took a loooooot longer to build it the second time. Ideally you want to disassemble it properly and split the pieces into bags in the same sections that the instructions are split so it's easier.

Holy shit, that's nostalgic as hell.
And yeah I think it was hollow. It bubbled from those holes when you put it under the water haha.

What’s beautiful Lego boat! How come mine wasn’t like that !!!! Fucking parents got me the only boats that would sink and therefore ruined my faith in humanity.

What a coincidence, I was in Richmond back in August and took a box of Lego my mom said was mine but that my sisters kids had been into… I’ve spent the last month on and off trying to remember what sets I used to have and then finding instructions online to piece them back together. Mostly space sets and a couple of early 80’s city sets. |
