I seriously hadn't heard of them, not even in passing. GF occasionally listens to kpop but even with that I had no idea and I'm happy about that :lol

unit 01-12-2026 05:49 PM

they've been together for like 10 years so they are basically one of the most well known kpop groups after blackpink and bts

GLP-1, Ozempic, HGH, Testosterone, there is no such thing as a "free" lunch.

The body is always in a never ending cycle of homeostasis, whatever hack you introduce generally comes with a side effect, therefore nothing comes for free when attempting to biohack your body.

Things like GLP-1 and Ozempic while make you lose weight, will also wreck your gastric system, causing a bunch of other ancillary issues. Testosterone will shut down your natural production, among blood pressure and cholesterol related issues. HGH will mess with your insulin sensitivity and can cause diabetes, and also affect blood pressure and is even connect to tumors/cancer.

There are very few things you can biohack and take that are zero-sum, nothing can replace hard work, unfortunately.

Got a Dexascan via Body Stats (https://www.bodystats.ca) for $25 last week and my body fat sucks! 32%! Neither my trainer or I thought I was anywhere close to that (I don't look like it all) but at least I have a baseline to work off this year. (BTW: My family doctor says not to get a scan more than every 3 years and to get my BF measurements via other methods).

Started the year at 172 and I just hit 168 today - some of it was just getting all the salt/water out of my body after eating so much over the holiday.

Hit the gym yesterday (before my coffee with Mike) and the place was packed with all the "New Year, New Me" folks - what a PITA, I couldn't get half the equipment I wanted so I'm glad I've got my own gym at home to work out of.

Next week I'm got a blood test, a knee x-ray, and an abdominal ultrasound all scheduled - getting old while working out!

You got a hunch your knee is in pain or something? Just reminds me of my wife who recently did her ACL surgery.

Yeah, my right knee has always been a bit wonky - the patella tendon doesn't quite sit right but now that I'm more active it's much more noticeable that it's more than that. When I do a lot of lateral movements (like lateral box jumps or side lunges) my inside knee gets pretty sore. I definitely favour that knee when I walk down the stairs or sometimes even walking on level ground.

My doctor took a look and can definitely feel that my right knee is nowhere near as smooth as my left knee but he's not sure what it is - doesn't think it's my meniscus, maybe it's my inner quad being weak and not being able to hold the knee cap in place during movements but could be something else. It's not keeping me from doing squat movements but anything with direction changes or running is problematic for me.

EvoFire 01-13-2026 01:09 PM

It turns out I hurt my wrist at the gym last week. I can barely lift any weights on my right wrist today. I went to the gym anyways and weighed in at 172 compared to 174 last week.

I did a little bit of cardio and managed a set and a half of squats and just gave up and went to buy coffee cause I'm out of beans at home. Will try again on Friday maybe.

Badhobz 01-13-2026 01:17 PM

omg shut the fuck up about health. all the geezers at work ever talk about now is this hurts, that hurts, this checkup, that checkup. Christ, just eat a bucket of lard and shut up.

Why am i the fattest fuck here and yet not in pain?

RabidRat 01-13-2026 01:22 PM

Only you could click on the Official Health Thread and then tell everybody to stfu about health :lol

Badhobz 01-13-2026 01:26 PM

isnt that the ultimate geezer move? beat that you clowns!

Manic! 01-13-2026 01:38 PM

Ozempic is about to get super cheap because they did not renew the patient in Canada. I was on it for a bit then the shortage hit. It just makes you eat less. 2 meals instead of 3 meals a day. Some days 1 meal and a snack. You still need to work out and eat right for maximum results.

This is great, I booked my test for the 25th, will post the results.

I'm thinking 15%, maybe less.

We'll see.

Joining in on the fun about geezers exercising and hurting here and there and everywhere, after hearing about Supa doing plyometrics, I started incorporating 2 jumping exercises into my routine as well. The first couple of days absolutely killed my thighs -- they were burning bad after something like the 5th jump, and I was completely gassed after the 7th or so (and had to give up).

After doing this for a couple of weeks, I can do about 10 now without killing myself. On the other hand, I also feel like something is fxxked up starting with my left butt going down all the way to my left calf. Part of it feels like my old friend Sciatica is giving me a return visit. But part of it also feels like something in my hip / hip joint and knee are fxxked up.

What kind of medical services do you think I should look into? Between family doctor, physio, massage, chiro, I dunno which route would be the most appropriate. And with the way my stupid extended healthcare coverage works, ideally I should stick to 1 type of treatment instead of switching around bcos my co-payment for each (type of) treatment is really high for the first 5 visits.

(GP is obviously free, but unless I am looking for referral to other checks like ultrasound / CT scan / X-ray etc., the family doctor won't really be able to offer any actual immediate relief at all.)

Gerbs 01-13-2026 02:10 PM

I'm confused as to why you guys are doing plyo.

I do it for vertical jump lol

bcrdukes 01-13-2026 02:18 PM

This is one hell of a depressing thread. :lol

mikemhg 01-13-2026 02:20 PM

If you're doing plyo, just know what you're doing, and don't be a damn hero.

I tore my achilles years ago doing 60-inch box jumps and jumping down backwards, repeatedly. After the 5th jump or so, landed, felt something that didn't feel right, ended up getting an ultrasound to confirm the 3mm tear.

That was about 9 years ago and my achilles has never been the same since, once the scar tissue heals you lose the stretch/flexibility which causes further issues in the knee/hip.

If you end up doing box jumps, make sure to step down.

Traum 01-13-2026 02:43 PM

Oh Mike, I'm not doing anything nearly as fancy as box jumps. For the most part, it is just jumping lunges and vertical jumps bcos they don't require any equipment at all. I figure if I didn't get the basics down first, I'm sure I'd fall off a box and hit my head or something LOL~ But even with just that, it looks like the ride is more "jumpy" than I was hoping for...

Anything that could've prevented it?

Trying to do everything I can to protect tears for jumping.

But sometimes a bad jump, I can feel all 200lbs compress my spine lool

mikemhg 01-13-2026 06:21 PM

If you're doing box jumps just make sure you have a box beside the one you're jumping on to step down, don't jump down backwards from height :)

I've set a goal this year that whatever my kid wants me to do with her (she's 6) I want to be able to say yes and do it well so for me it's not just having strength but having more power and bounce in my step (and better cardio). And I want to do be able to do this for as long as she wants - if she wants a piggy back when she's 18 I want to be able to do it.

Carry, throw, jump, bend, climb etc - I want to be able to keep up with her non-stop motor. She may have mom and dad's total lack of athletic DNA but she's got the advantage of no fear and a pliable, jumpy little body.

FWIW, I enjoy both the plyometrics stuff and the related work that emphazises full body coordination and power (say squat thrusters or multi-plane landmine work). I suck so bad at being coordinated that it's really helpful for me to do them.
