APC cannon!? That thing would own so much with that kind of ammunition. Is the gun on that thing the PKM or is it the RPK? It should at least be the more powerful one. I've picked up that kit from dead bodies before and that machinegun seems very powerful, though slow.

Seriously though... I was at 10,100 pts the last time I checked. According to TotalBF2.com the Corporal promotion is suppose to be at 10,500. The next one up is Sergeant at 25,000, but I got promoted to Corporal after about a min of play, then to Sergeant after another min.

:lol Wish I had time to stay in the game longer. The unlock hasn't shown up yet, maybe the server hasn't updated, or this could be yet another bug.

It's hard to get a lock on the choppers, their countermeasures reload so quickly.

Just try to spot one, then get a good run on it. Remember where you spotted the chopper, then fly away from it for a couple of seconds. This way, you'll have a longer time to lock on when you turn around for your missle lock run. While you do that, keep firing the gun. Using a joystick is much easier.

On the plus side, it's nice to be able to see where those supplies are, and to finally get credit for blowing up their equipment. Heat-seaking missle behavior has much improved.

yeah i concur with you about the weapons. the only thing i don't have unlock is special ops g36. and so far i like the g3 the most.

Out of the shotguns i like is the stock US engineer shotgun. the DAO and the jackhammer kinda sucks.

i think the new map wake island licks. i play it in bf1942 with the battleships roaming arond the island. Without it in the new one the map seems boring.

woo i got 3 unlocks after the patch. unlocked the pkm which i think packs more punch but the ammo count is only 100. gonna save the other two unlocks till i've tried the other weapons. i pickup kits off the ground as often as i remember.
to me, the jackhammer doesn't seem as smooth as the dao. the jack has to reload from a whole clip while i think the dao does so shot by shot. i think you can stop the dao reload if you switch to something like a pistol for a solid 2 seconds, then switch back to the dao.

i use to play dc on the generalmayhem servers too. i prefer ctf over conquest style, i wonder if they'll include that in bf2? or will the game be out of whack?

the dao makes the anti tank class a bit strong i think. at close ranges he owns. at far ranges he can blow guys up if they're stationary

you mean holding on to the fire button? that guides the rocket and keeps you zoomed in until you hit something. same thing goes with sniping, you can hold on to left click after you shoot to see if you drop your target or to see how he reacts.

any of you have any sneaky tricks? i can sometimes shoot a curve shot at armor units. shoot an AT around at the armor, but don't center focus on him until the rocket gets close to him, then center it and watch it hit. the enemy won't get that alert noise in his tank so he won't know to look for you until it's too late.

I need help guys!

I just updated to patch 1.03 and when I use ASE to join a server I always get this stupid "Message from EA" window inside BF2. If I ignore the msg then I don't join the server and if I read the msg it closes BF2. I keep on getting it on different servers I have saved in my favorites folder in ASE.

I don't quite understand what you're asking, but I think I can identify the problem you with with ASE.

It's probably not working right now and that's because it wasn't made to work with 1.03. Just be patient; I'm sure ASE will come up with an update shortly.

For now, you'll have to do it the old fashion way. Close the stupid message, then use the in-game browser, or copy (memorize) an IP from ASE.

got a medic trick i just remembered. when you're going to revive your teamate, throw a few health packs on him as you get near him, then bring out the paddles to revive, that way if anybody tries to gun you down you'll still have a little bonus health that might keep you alive! woos!

Tips?

PKM goes through thin walls like tin foil.

Suicide gunnerman: Take a ride with a machine gun pod. Drive full speed into the home base. Hit f2 and start taking out people before you die. You can usually get around 3.

The pistol doesn't suck if you got good aim.

Defending flags: If you're camping at your flag, attack anybody on foot you see. If a heli or a tank comes by, chances are they will capture and run so just stay a foot away from the flag capture area (so you don't compete with anyone) and just wait till they capture and leave. You can usually hear them go. Just grab the flag back when they leave and watch out for any spawns.

ASE is All Seeing Eye which is a program that you use to monitor servers for games such as CS, BF2 etc.

You open up ASE, double click on the server and then BF2 starts up and you'll be loading up that server. It also has a friends list which comes in handy

A good way to knife people is figure out how to dive at their feet. For some reason there seems to be some reach advantage.

Pistols, aim for the head.

My tip: You can get underneath a tank (or some vehicles) without getting killed. Sometimes if you run out of places to hide when you are sneaking up on a tank with your C4's, this may be a good alternative.

maybe you have a high refresh rate. set it back to 60Hz and try that.

go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings
and open videodefault.con with wordpad.

there should be a setting under renderer.allowALLRefreshRates 0.

change the 0 to a 1.

Yea, I noticed that. Which is a good thing I suppose. In DC, all you have to do is put a mine on top of, say, a car's hood, and it'll blow up as soon as it moves.

i've got a xp-m at 3200+ speeds with a gig of corsair dual channel ram on a 9800 pro. running at a humble 800x600 res, all med settings, no aa af, and it runs fairly smooth on a server < 150 ping. not sure what my fps is at i'll post up later.

This game is pretty hardware intensive if you want to run at high res or settings. Even when you run the game at "crappy" settings it doesn't look that bad.

yeah just keep driving around on a hummer or something. i think mounting the gun also counts.

not sure on the repair points, but if you're aimming for the repair badge, a cheap way of doing it is driving a hummer into shallow water so it keeps on loosing health, then jump into the 3rd or 4th position and keep wrenching

Finally got my Dao. Now I can actually gun fight when I am anti tank.

I got my transport badge by sitting in a car idle in a really small ranked server. Some guy tried to arty me once heh.

Is anyone experiencing worse framerate after the recent patch?

I don't have SF yet and I just got a new video card. Deleted the cache so I could optimize it again, but I'm getting bad framerates on certain maps.

nope haven't experienced any decline in performance. what new card do you get? ATI? i'm glad i have an nvidia.

i heard bf2 runs laggy on ATI cards and i remember seeing some kind of fix for it on the bf2 forums. you increase your pci latency from 32 to 64.

I think it's a bug with the prefix. It took me a bit of playing around before I got rid of it. I'm not quite sure how, but I just kept changing the prefix and deleting it and eventually it went away.

i had that problem too, but i have a asus 6800GT.

was flawless before 1.12, after load times and w/e went to shit. turn down the draw distance, if you do that it wil be sooooo much faster.,

just bought bf2 and exp. I know i need a new vid card but i was wondering whats the best deal?? so far ive heard of the 6600 gt, 9600 pro all-in-wonder and some others but those 2 seem to be the most popular

btw I went to a local shop and they quoted me 185 for the 6600 gt

hey quick question about servers and pings.

The lowest ping i see is 125 and it goes up to 500 and the rest are zeros.

is anyone else having this problem?

i am using shaw internet. I do have a router but i tried playing it without the router and still the same problem.

the ping numbers were never accurate

i was worry it about it at first, but then i had no problem in any of those 100's ping servers, I've seen the number dropped to 40s but I didn't feel any difference.

there was some issues with 1.3 and servers crashing and such, but i'm pretty sure thats been resolved. I never have a problem anymore

I got tired of the game always freezing on me and the damn server menu would always lock up/slow down to a crawl.

i've been playing since nov. and i've never really seen those issues.

There have been some headache following a patch release for a short time, but then thats fixed and all is well again (until they release another patch, then its another short period of odd things going on).

but all in all since nov. i've had very very few problems.

i dont know about server crashing but I have problem with game automatically shutting down after map load, and radom disconnect, been having problem since 1.2 and 1.3 didn't fix anything

what's a good way to practice flying vehicles? start my own server or something? is the best way to control a plane/copter w/ a mouse?

start with bomber, eg Eagle
bombers can't make tight turns but they are easier to fly
if you are just starting out and fly J10 or hornet, you'll be crashing all over the place

in general, no keyboard/mouse pilot can touch joystick pilot

but for helo, keyboard mouse is better

use whatever works better for you
