For anyone who wants to try SC2 beta without a betakey, you can use lazylaunch to load a map to play around against AI.

The AI is set to very easy and offers no challenge at all, but you can still play around with the new units and stuff.

I hope someone comes out with some harder AI. I downloaded an "Easy/Med/Hard" pack but the AI is just terrible, I think I tried playing on Medium against 3 opponents, and it was stupid easy, I was attacked once in 30 minutes.

Other wise, it works wonderfully.....

Phucmang, Download the Beta client from Piratebay, or any other torrent site. Install the game, run the launcher, let the game update to the latest version. Download Lazy Launcher, download from torrent site of your choice, put Lazylauncher into SC2 directory (same as the .exe for the game). Lastly, download one of the AI Map Packs, follow instructions in said download, it might ask you to replace one .mpq file, or replace one folder. Replace as needed. Run Lazylauncher, select map from mappack download, launch and you should be good to go! Oh, you'll know if you have computer opponents or not as if you don't it will say "You win! Quit/Resume" right after launch.

You cannot save though as its the multiplayer beta ;)

What you will do:
1) Assuming you have downloaded the Beta client, run it and install to default directory.
2) Once installed, run. You should then be presented with a patch upgrade.
3) Continue with patching. If you haven't been presented with a patch upgrade, continue to step 5.
4) After finished patching, don't play. Just quit.
5) Download the launcher to someplace you wont forget ( I suggest making a "SC2 stuff" folder on your desktop or somewhere)
6) Download the AI Compilation and extract to the "SC2 stuff" folder. There will be a readme there with helpful information. In one of the steps in the readme, it will tell you to load the map in the map folder. Don't, since we will download a separate map pack and use those maps. Do follow every other previous step though.
7) Download the Map Pack and extract to some folder in your "SC2 stuff" folder.
8) You're basically good to go. Run the Launcher, select a map from the Map Pack you have downloaded, and enjoy!

i downloaded the beta but i am stucked on the patch part. the screen is blank and it doesn't download the newest patch by it self.

i didnt download the patch and it still works.
So far playing the game it feels like an expansion pack. Doesnt seem like any real changes or improvements from SC1.
They just added some units and took some out.

Ive played almost 100 games of the beta now (vs real ppl) I have to say if this game stays the way it is, i dont think it will be as long lasting as the original SC1.

Obviously there are still balance issues, but with that said, the game is much faster. I actually enjoy the faster pace.

The other major issue that I dont like, and the reason why i think it wont be as great as the original is the lack of depth in micro and macro. The game itself reminds me more of Warcraft 3 (where units of a certain type do x amount more dmg or less dmg vs other types of units, they've used a similar system in sc2). There are so many hard counters that the mediocre players can beat very good players with very little skill at all. It has devolved itself from a game of chess to rock/paper/scissors. I hope they do something to fix this, and i do think that a lot more can be added into the game, but there will be 2 more exp pacs coming out of this so meh.

i really miss some of the units in the original and BW. I am running it on my laptop so the graphic is garbage lol. I still like SC1, BW more but hopefully the custom maps will be at least good as the original.

I don't really know the terminology for SC. What's the difference between macroing and microing? I remember I read somewhere that SC2 is more macroing as opposed to microing? I'm not really sure what they are though.

I've been enjoying the cracked version but I really want to be playing against real people :P. People on RFD said they sent out another wave of invites so everyone check your BNet accounts!

Yeah, after a bit of research, I realized that's what's going on.
I kinda wish we can reconfig the hotkeys. Or have an option of normal (SC2)
or traditional (SC1) hotkey settings.

I don't think the left hand hotkey-ing really helps that much, since people still use hotkeys from 6-0.
The hand is bound to move anyway. With practice, I think people can shift their fingers from left to right
hotkeys without even looking.

It took a few rounds to get used to, but the left hand hotkey is awesome, I love it. It's probably one of the main reasons I can not die against the V5 AI's early rush.

Is V6 just a better rush AI, or is it more comprehensive? I find it mildly annoying that they build up to air units in the tech tree, but you never face any. I'd be happy with a more comprehensive AI...but then I guess I shouldn't complain about shit I don't pay for and have illegally.

6.0 isn't too bad. The only thing it got is the early rush, which was no different than standard BroodWar AI.
the 6.1.1 is hard though.... I keep getting raped.
Mainly cause I'm still trying to get used of the new features.

so why does the mothership suck so much now?

i was expecting the blackhole to kill his entire army. it sucked up like his ENTIRE army, i laughed... then they popped back out and owned my mothership... where's her time slower thing? her earth cracker?!

I haven't used the mothership at all when versing real people. I've used it a couple times when I was versing comps. They're not useless though, they have the mass recall and they also have the ability to cloak.

^^The temporary warp is actually pretty useful if you were playing 2v2 or more... I think it's worth it considering it doesn't cost that much later in the game......It's useful for macro which occurs more in SC2 than in SC1^

so how can one effectively use immortals? I love the concept of the unit (even though they killed off my beloved dragoon)

I know they're good against heavy hitters like siege tanks etc.
but what about defensive siege tanks, with 1-2 bunkers and some marines? they get slaughtered. I guess I have to bring backup.

but i still havent found an effective way to use them... I think immortals should get a slight range upgrade.

^IMO I usually use immortals mostly for backup if they try to take down my defense (cannons) or a mid-map battle...but obviously you will need other units...I kind of use it mostly as support? I think it's also good against mauraders but i'm not sure..

immortals are really effective vs any terran mix of marines/maruders and if ur facing zerg they rip thru roaches (which means i pretty much get them everytime i go vs zerg).

if ur playing toss, use sentries and put up a shield or something before u go into taking seige tank dmg. sentries are really useful units and a lot of the top players can do amazing things with them haha

Theres another one out there where T is on scrap station and does a bunker + siege approach, I can't seem to find it though... might be on BlizShouter or huskystarcrafts channel...nvm found em.. but T won both games..

From what he told me they keys come in bathes. So if you pr-order yours on the spot and ask for a beta key they will most likely give u one if they have extra. They said they will call people who per order thiers but so far one guy at work never got a call from them and he order his way before I did. So I guess they give his keys away and didn't bother calling him lol.

I preordered it like 2 weeks ago and they told me it didnt matter how much you put in first, so I put in $20. The funny thing was I didnt even know I was suppose to get a beta key and the girl never told me. The other day my friend told me all preorders are eligible to get beta keys... and the next day EB games called me lol.

Whats your budget?

I got a computer for around $900 in january including the monitor and it runs this game and anything else on high/highest settings.

get a quad core amd instead of a core 2 duo. Should perform a lot better too, get the Athlon II X4 630.

and get a 4870 or 5770 for DX11 support

I'd say under $500. Doesn't need to be played on high settings. Medium is fine
