Personal preference. Stack, cuff, or hem is up to you.

I hemmed my N&F but I'm cuffing my Tellason's until I can find somewhere that can hem them using a chain stitcher that isn't too far away (Seattle) or I'll have to wait until I go to San Fran.
I got these Tellason's a couple weeks ago but I've been a little bit busy to post them up. I picked them up from ABC Denim (http://shop.abcdenim.com) (they're having a huge sale on their inventory right now). Got it before the sale though unfortunately :(
I love the overall construction of the denim and it feels really nice to wear. I got the Ladbroke Grove (slim tapered) and it fit TTS but you can probably size down one for an even slimmer look. I'm going for a more relaxed look instead of a skinny one though :D. Everything that was used to make the pair of Jeans are made in the USA. From the denim all the way down to the rivets.
Here are some pictures from today:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8452/7919626484_6b24d05136_z.jpghttp://farm9.staticflickr.com/8302/7919623348_ec1083b80e_z.jpg
I'll take a picture of the details a little later when I have some more time.
For slim jims in a larger size, I would hem them. You won't get much stacking from slim jims past a 28-30 waist

Know a quality place that'll do a good job? I'd go to my regular tailor, but they're more a chain than anything. I REALLY want to protect my investment.

Browns Shoes hiked their price up to $160. Your best bet is to order them online.
Anyways, I'm looking for a brown/natural leather belt. any recommendations?
I always buy Clarks in Seattle. DB's for $60 usually in beeswax or brown

I went to the Clarks store at the premium outlets a week ago, but they had a terrible selection of desert boots.
I guess I should venture off into the city a little bit more.
Anyways, I'm looking for a brown/natural leather belt. any recommendations?
If you're cheap, there's a Tandy Leather factory in Surrey right after the pattullo bridge. Mine is just about a year old and it's got the patina to prove it. Here's a guide (http://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/k6uro/how_to_make_a_100_belt_on_the_cheap/) of what you're going to need, if you decide this route. You'll be left with a basic full grain leather belt, assuming that you didn't dye it.
If you want something more known, there's Tanner Goods and Corter Leather, but there are always other brands that aren't so mainstream.

Clarks at the premimum outlet is more for the older crowd. Db will be a rare find.
The little burgendy (i think they are the same company as footlocker?) sometimes sell DB's for less than 80.

hey speed, what size is your waist? i have a natural tan leather belt from corter i bought for $60. he made it in the wrong size for me, it'll probably fit in the middle hole if you're a 31. takes like 6 weeks for him to make one so if you're interested i'll sell it. wore it like twice and just the slightest amount of blue transferred from my jeans. pm me if you're interested.

Someone school me on denim.
For the past two years I've been wearing A&E jeans (their slim fits my legs well). I think it's time I upgraded. I don't understand how tight is acceptable because I hear that most denim stretch (raw or not raw). My mentality is to also not go raw because I always tend to drop food on my clothes (happens almost every week). I'm still open to the idea of raw but I'm also curious if there are good brands/fits for non-raw jeans.

True Religeon
Seven for all man kind
Rock & Republic
Those are good brands for non-raw jeans.
:ilied:
But I would consider going raw because quality of denim is much higher imo. If you drop food on your jeans, then just put a napkin over your thighs when you eat....no shame in that.

What's your price range? Eh for me food stains just add to the character of my denim. Not that I spill food on them regularly.
There is no rule that exists where you CANT wash your raw denim for 6 months. Wash regularly if needed, they can still turn out great! I don't think you should take raw denim out of the equation.
If you want non raw, LVC, RRL, Nudies, Ralph Lauren Denim Supply

Ideally, anything below $200 if possible. I'm going to give those brands a try and see which fits best for me.
I'm convinced that I should try out raw as well. Could I have some recommendations as well? (I have googled some brands but I have no idea what's good and not).
For raw denim you could try Nudies, APCs, Naked & Famous is really popular on this forum, Unbranded
In terms of raws.. for the price, Naked&Famous should be a no-brainer.
For non-raw, I personally like Sevens and Levi's. And Nudie's non-raw styles.

For raw denim, other options would be anything from abcdenim like Big John, Tellason, Rogue Territory. Really curious about Big John especially with their history and from Japan. Or consider spending $50 more and get some 3sixteens from Self Edge or use a coupon code if you can and get it from Revolve.

Imo, raw jeans shouldn't be 'treasured' but worn out, because it's only then that you get really nice jeans. For my first pair of raws (first pair of expensive denim), I was always careful wearing it and after a year ish, the fades were still very minimal. Got another pair a while later, and wore them out and after a year-ish, it had much nicer and more distinct fades.
For your first pair of raws, I would give N&F a shot. If you are interested in crazy fades, then do some research to see which colours fade better (iirc, regular indigo fades pretty slow). Other good first-pair brands are APC, Nudies and unbranded (sold at Urban Outfitters and I think Plenty)
Non raw jeans: I like wings + horns and LVC (Levis vintage clothing). Other nice ones that are a bit pricier are PRPS and Dior Homme.
Just started a Nudie Grim Tim 46-dip selvedge.. and holy fuck are these stiff.
Wish me luck :concentrate:

Yeah the ink will bleed like any other material. It just depends on how 'bleedy' the jeans are. You probably shouldn't be wearing suede in the rain anyways since suede gets stained by water.

It's really up to you how you want to take care of your jeans. The more often you wash them the "healthier" the jeans are, less bacteria build up, less stronger fibers, etc. If you choose not to wash them regularly your fades will be of higher contrast.
I personally choose to hold off on washing and have only washed my pair of N&F once since I've had them. I've been wearing my Tellason's almost every day for a month and a bit now with no washes.
No need to worry about dropping stuff on the jeans or damaging them to give it personalization, just wearing them the way you want to will give it it's own character.

If you are not concerned about the process or personalization then try a pair of first. Cause you might not like the feel. Cause it'll take a while before they get comfortable. So if you aren't liking them then go for non raw stuff.

Naked&Famous is probably the most readily available raw denim you can get, for the best price. You can find them at Holt Renfrew, Plenty, Hills, Dutil, BoysCo.. anywhere. Average price is I think $150? I've seen some on sale for around $100.
Also check out Unbranded. They're made by Naked&Famous. Doesn't have any branding on it, just solid raw denim. I think I saw some at Below the Belt for $80. For the price, these should be a no-brainer. Especially if they're your first pair of raws.
My first pair of raw denim was Unbranded, I still wear them every now and then.

size down 1 from your true size.
beeswax leather is better for fall as it's more water resistant
oakwood suede is a great color, very versatile.
both are easy to style and wear with, can dress up or down.

no hate on levis i just hate recognizable branding on clothes, so that red patch and stitching kills it for me. i hear where you guys are coming from with denim though. after spending $350 on my last 3 pairs and not having them last more than 2-3 years tops before needing serious repairs, im starting to think $300 denim is nowhere near as worth it as say, $300 shoes.

unit: i hate that levis red tab, stitching and the patch as well. It looks bad so i take it all off.
These Levis STF 501 cost me $36 on sale. For levis shrink to fit, the waist doesnt really shrink, but length shrinks about 2 inches. I actually sized 1 down on the waist, usually wear 31 waist straight leg and 32 in skinny leg. Im wearing 30x36 which shrunk to 30x34. Heres a fit picture of my levis stf 501 with all the tags taken off. What do you guys think of fit?
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i236/vvind/clothing/levis30x36soaked_zpsfb2c6409.jpg
no hate on levis i just hate recognizable branding on clothes, so that red patch and stitching kills it for me.
Levi's and Nudie are the only jeans I have with distinct branding. But I actually respect what the brands stand for - which in turn, I don't mind sporting their logos.
Then there's flashy logos that are just flashy for the sake of being flashy. I'd take a pair of blank N&F over those any day.
no hipster but i think nudie is getting up there with being one of those recognizable brands that are a little too mainstream.
not saying its a bad brand but once a brand gets too popular, people who buy clothes just for names sake start buying it to show off the logo and it waters the brand down. same thing happens with all popular recognizable brands that are trends. just my opinion!
hundredone: i think the fit is ok. its about the right looseness for your body proportion.

well as long as the fit is good, branding for me, at least, is not that big of an isssue. Heck, if true religion had better fits and quality, i would wear them.
Currently breaking in a pair of Japan Blue's (same as momotoro). been rotating 3 pairs of n&f wierd's for around 3 years now and decided it was time to 'upgrade'. So far, fit is great and the material feels like it will last me a lot longer than n&f.
Note on CDBs: crepe soles absorb water so as waterproof the outside leather may be, you'll still get wet through the sole. Clark's Bushacre may be a better choice for Vancouverite since it has a rubber sole instead of crepe. And I guess I'm just not a fan of how crepe looks in general.

I have 1 pair of raw Grim Tim and 2 pairs of non-raw, Slim Jim and Thin Finn. Bought them all on sale.
I paid roughly 150 for the raws, and 100 for the nons.
As much as I love denim, I can't get myself to pay over $150 for a pair of jeans.
^ You know what, I'm starting to feel the same way. I used to love super premium raw denim in the $300 range but now I feel like my next pair will be some simple Levi's.
My thoughts,
the overall difference in quality narrows and the separation between price points widens the further one climbs the retail ladder.
A $150 pair of jeans may have a 100% improvement in quality over a $60 pair,
but a $200 pair of jeans may only have a 25% improvement in quality over a $150 pair,
and a $300 pair of jeans may only have a 10% improvement in quality over a $200 pair.
I'm quite happy with the quality of N&F; I can appreciate the quality of the more expensive brands if I sit down and pay attention, but in day to day wear, I honestly don't notice the difference. I would rather purchase the mid-tier brand that is good but not amazing quality, and dedicate the savings towards other pieces, travel, eating out, etc.

As much as I love my Japan Blues, I'm probably not going to buy another pair of this expensive raw denim. I can't justify it. I don't know how I justified spending $225 on these. I love them to death but they're just jeans. Jeans are just jeans. Hell, my twill rigid Levis are fading too. And it's weird to think that wearing jeans becomes a chore when you wear them everyday, but for some reason, it just does. As easy as it is to just slap on the same jeans everyday without thought, it becomes a chore, yet I find myself doing it repeatedly.
I'll probably wait for another pair of N&F to go on sale next time. My first pair of raw denim were N&Fs, and I got them for $40 right after Christmas. Best investment I've ever made.
Also, there's more woolite free samples. The only hump now is that you have to like a page on facebook. Woolite® Laundry Detergent Official Site: Liquid Detergent & Fabric Care (http://www.woolite.ca/en/) I don't use woolite, but it may interest those that do.

Well, in addition to quality, there is also things that are unique regarding each brand of jeans. For example, APC fades easily and distinctively
Personally, I love DH as it has the nicest slim fitting cut for me (as well as a unique 38' inseam). Quality wise, it definitely isn't worth it, but the fit and fades are amazing!

^^ Same here. Its the details that count. Everything you mentioned plus the quality of the hardware- all the buttons, plated rivets, etc. Maybe some darting in key locations, hand dyed denim, chain stitched hems, completely hand made denim. I find that cheaper denim tends to lose their shape easily too.
Unfortunately, I'm doing school full time right now with no job so my disposable income is quite small and I can't justify getting a new pair if my current pair is still ok although its needing more and more repairs.
Which is kind of a good thing because I'll just keep wearing my current pair and make it look even better lol. I miss the stiffness and color of brand new raw denim though.

Feel the same way. I cant wear denim to work so it takes a loooong time for me to put any fades on them. I'm still working in a pair of NF for over year plus and they have barely any fades lol. So I might get a new pair once every 2 or 3 years.

luxury goods are not about value.
If it were about value, I would buy exclusively unbranded denim.
It's not about value, it's about logically allocating the finite pool of funds dedicated to discretionary spending to produce the greatest overall pleasure.
If I settle for mid-tier selvedge denim, I do feel a bit of a sense of missing out on the fabulous subtle details of high-tier selvedge denim. Settling enables me to indulge multiple interests simultaneously instead of choosing one over the other however, and in the end, I'm more happy with denim and something else as well. That's just me though, we're all different. I also have ridiculously expensive interests, so it's sort of a necessity to pursue them all actively.

Or for non-selvedge, but still raw, any of Levi's "Rigid" jeans (50-60).

I have Red Wing Iron Rangers. I've spent ample amounts of time wearing them through the rain, snow, slush, a bit of mud, and heavy construction dust and they're just fine. They're made of basic boot leather, not paper... a bit of water won't hurt them.
I have other goods made of far more delicate leather, which again, despite some exposure to the rain, are just fine.
so you're saying water has no effect on leather?

I think he's saying that while his boots are of leather material, his boots are still doing fine. Maybe your boots and his boots saw different scenarios of weather, or he oiled/conditioned his boots before wearing them, etc.
I remember when I first wore my crepe soled Clarks DBs out in the rain they were fine. I always heard people say that crepe soles + rain is a bad idea, but for the times that I wore them and still do in rain, I'm fine.

No, of course not.
I'm saying, rain does not have an effect of any significance on sturdy leather boots. If you want them to maintain the same appearance as the day they were made, I guess you'd want to avoid rain, but in that case, you'd probably not want to wear them at all. That desire doesn't make leather boots inappropriate for wearing in the rain, though..
You're reading too much stuff on the internet.

I wear my good quality leather sneakers (w+h and CPs) in the rain and they're holding up nicely. I don't like shoes that look too clean anyway.
Depends on the shoe/boot. For sneakers or boots, aw yeah a bit of dirt makes them look better imo.
But for anything dressy, e.g. Bexley Enfield or any dress shoe, I'll try to keep them out of the rain because I wouldn't use Sno-Seal or anything of the sort on them at all.
mb: they're your boots, you can do whatever you want with them. just dont tell others not to care for theirs because of your standards for shoe care.

Unbranded is legit.
Strangely enough, I like my Unbranded more than my N&F's :lawl:
i tried them on thought they fit really odd on me. really wanted to like them but just couldnt.
I didn't wear my raw jawnz today. I felt like I was cheating on them.

super interested in those Unbranded 21oz..
how do their skinnies fit like in comparison with levi 511 and nudie thin finns?
I have the N&F Skinnies (same measurements) and a few pairs of 511s. They fit more or less the same as Levi's 511. Maybe a slightly smaller thigh but that's all.

oops i meant the 510s
I guess you could just measure your jeans and compare them to BlueOwl's measurements. (http://blueowl.us/scripts/psp/VB_Bridge3.dll?VBPROG=\bin\shop.prodt.detail&SKU=7991202)

im guessing i missed out on some kind of APC deal? pm me if you still have some deal going on
also, some of the jeans i want, (NF, APC, etc) the opening is a bit too wide for my liking, is it recommended to get them narrowed, or would that ruin the jean?
i like the fit of the nudies fin thinn a lot

if you're buying from RESN i suggest you go down 1 size. I went true to size and they've stretched a little bit. However I still have a pretty decent fit..
I would suggest a size or 2. Personally I went down 2 and they still ended up being a bit loose now lol but maybe it's because I biked in them? Who knows
where's do you guys take your denim to get tapered and how much did the charge?
I always go to Alberts Tailor in downtown.

don't hem.
i like hemming these days and got rid of the stacking on some of my jeans.
depends on what look you're going for and what shoes you plan to wear with them.
you really have to answer that question for yourself.

If you get a natural-leather belt, the more you wear it, the more it will "patina".
That's the before/after of a Naked&Famous belt. Tanner's a popular choice for quality leather too.
Personally I don't care enough to have a fancy belt. I've been rocking a plain black Levi's belt for almost 2 years now lol

If you don't want waits then Tanner might not be a good idea as they usually make to order unless you find one of their stockists. Naked and Famous has natural leather belts too, but not cheap.
Should be fine. it might bleed on the backside, but no big deal.

Hey guys, what type of jeans would you recommend if I'm looking to purchase my first raw denim jeans. My stomach is quite big so I have to wear waist 34 but I'm 5'10.5 so if I get bigger jeans, the knee part is usually too low. I also have the problem that the waist pinches my front too much, but sag low and far in the rear. I tried some slimmer cuts (petit standard) but were to tight in the thighs and the crotch. My body shape is weird, I have African child syndrome where my stomach is big and so is my butt which makes my jeans hard to wear as they go high in the front and low in the back when sitting, but sag when standing. Any suggestions? Thanks

They had Edwins for 50% off. All my sizes were gone though.

Dutil contest was pretty crazy... you have to have 1859 or older pennies to even get 50% off. The winning ones were all pre-canada era pennies (older than 1857).
Anyways... I have a pair of sz 30, APC New Standards.... lemme know if anyone needs. Brand new with tags. Bought em for my pops but grabbed the wrong size LOL, so I'm letting it off cheap.

I have a pair of New standards but I'm unsure as when I wear them overtime it'll stretch too much. Currently it is tight to my waist but not too tight that it begins hurting my waist.
if you can get them on without too much trouble they'll stretch out and be too big some day.
My rule with APC is you should barely be able to button up the top button

mine are a 27 and have stretched out to about a 30.5.
I could only button one button pulling it all the way up my waist when i first got it. now i can wear it below my waist, all 5 buttons with ease.

i have to agree with his main point. jeans are tough and you dont have to be so caught up over how you take care of them. if they're dirty, wash em. if they're not, then dont.
i dont like to wash every 2 months but i have washed them gently before about 3 months apart (spilled on them). i just put them on the hand wash setting in my washer then hang dry em.
