Although I agree that this game is kind of stoic, the way it is setup is that you can keep playing and playing and it doesn't seem like 10 hours because there is always forward progression. At first I was turned off but I am beginning to see what the square enix guys were trying to accomplish. I think they saw the aging JRPG market and tried to bring it forward to more market for a more mainstream audience. I just think they lost some people in the process.

You can cast and summon shit, just later on in the game. I just use auto attack and focus on paradigm shifts when required. What you can also do is manually queue abilities as well (which you can set your default to abilities rather than auto in the menu). At first, i thought the battle system was really simplistic, but it was just putting you on training wheels and it slowly introduces you into the game play mechanic. Really, the battle system is less to do with attacks but how you shift your paradigm in relation to your attacks which is more important.

For example, for a boss fight I would set to an all out attack paradigm (which all the character jobs are set to full on attack mode) at the start to raise the stagger meter (think of this as meter you must increase in successive attacks in order to fatigue the monster).

Once the boss started to hit me with hard hitting attacks I would switch to a balance paradigm where one person attacks, another tanks (or draws damage) and one heals. While this allows my party to recover it slows the battle down and the stagger meter decreases.

When the party recovers, I switch back to full attack mode once more to bring back the stagger meter

It is this interplay between paradigms that allows for some degree of fexiblity and strategy that is often missing in RPGs which dictates actions of attack -> attack -> heal -> heal -> revive -> attack. Plus, add summons and TP actions and you've got a pretty dynamic gameplay that is fairly fast pace.

It is just that the developers take such a LONNNGG time for the player to finally open up all these functions within the game, turning people off for the initial portion of it.

This is all within 5 hours of gameplay mind you (I am only 5 hours in).

The fact that buffs play such a big role now make it even better in terms of thinking how to attack or setup a fight.

The speed of attacks and how to chain them up to build stagger is key to winning as well. I realized how great Snow is to have on the team.

Well any weapon can be the ultimate weapon so doesn't matter which one u upgrade really as for upgrading them don't use all the upgrade part at once.. Slowly add like 1 or 2 at a time until u get the exp bonus x2 multiplier then go all out on the high exp item coz it's x2 exp I mean grab the highest exp yield item and select all of it coz the exp bonus diminishes.. So max ur gain by using it all when it's x2

the items with a screw icon are for mainly upgrading points

best way to do it is to dumb a shitload of claw icon items to increase the multiplier to x3
then dump a big amount of the same screw icon item to boost it up

Found out it's called "Vibrant Ooze" in the English Version.

When Vanille learns the Death skill, go insta kill adamantoise in gran pulse. They drop an item that sells for 150k, and they also drop the ult. weapon mineral too (saves you 2 million a pop)

I don't recall north America is getting any bonus with the game other then the preorder bonus at eb and the ce guide so whatever you are talking about prolly not meant for north America? I mean even my ce only have a hardcover art book and a set of 7 postcard but no hologram box art with it.. The only thing I Can think of is the first print edition in japan that comes with the ffxiv code

there is two north america box art, 1 for US(the one with shiny hologram ff13 logo and lighting's sword) and 1 for CAD(which has french manual and french text on the back of the box, it comes with a shitter box art, no shiny).
If you brought ur ff13 at EB u'd get the CAD version, but there are reports that if you brought from best buy or wal mart here in canada, they were selling the US version.

lol i wouldn't say i'm high lvl.. all my items are lvl 1.. and i skip most the fights if i can.. i have 1.3k hp only when i started farming them.. it's all about the setup of ur group.. with the correct setup you can 1 shot them without it hitting you 99% of the time

go with protection first to buff yourself up
then use delta attack > mystic tower until hes staggered then go all out with relentless assault
but go to combat clinic whenever your HP falls below 50%

chocobo digging :D i spent 5hrs digging lol... i have nothing better to do and i'm too lazy to continue with the story.. i dunno for barthendolus i didn't bother with protection buff i used lightning sazh vanille (my favorite combo atm) commando synergist saboteur to get all the buff/debuff up and switch to either com/rav/rav or rav/rav/rav and pound him switching to medic medic synergist as needed to heal and rebuff.. and just keep pounding.. if 1 or 2 ppl are dead or ur main is almost dead and u don't think u can heal in time use a summon :D

you'd want to do the one that have the cleith stones orange.. coz they are warp points u don't wanna have to WALK all the way back to it coz the missions are LONG WALK back you might spend hrs just to retrace ur steps.. u don't have to do them all but i suggest u do some of them and definitely the orange one on ur map

Who says this game isn't fun? LOL i'm acutally really enjoying it. Battle System rocks post chap. 11. Some setup works wella nd makes certain mobs easy, while some just makes you GRIND the F-out of them. :)

i'm emjoying the game so far. I realized that the linearity is mostly due to all the tutorials for new players. Man, graphics just kills all the games out there. The early scene with Snow and Serah is breathe-taking. Snow looked like a real person.

start off the battle and summon and go straight to gestalt and do the finishing move, this should knock him down to the ground

i will then start spamming death at him until he dies. I think I can take him on without doing this, but this will be fastest

have the accessory that casts haste on your from the start and you should get in about 10 castings of death before it kills you, if this happens just retry and repeat

as for the missions.. i'd say do the one that are teleport pads.. otherwise u spend too much time walking backward once u finish the game

Normally, you have to take out the left and right legs to prevent it from attacking you (he does a stomp thing) and to actually do damage to the turtle.

Summoning will take out both legs.

for late game when you need money and a good place for CP, run back and forth at edenhall, lots of perfume and chip drops and theres an adamantoise there, esepcially good after you finish hunt 63

lol i finished hunt 63 but there's no turtle for me @ edenhall maybe coz i didn't do 58-62 yet haha i'm building my ultimate magic set :D 100% magic immunity.. only problem is it cost 4mil to make lol.. as for the damn turtle.. i gave up casting death on it.. i just kill it normally ~ i can knock him out downing him twice ~ so far i got 7 traps and 14 platinum igot off him in 40 kills.. not too bad ~ i stacked the item find crap on all my toons though lol

im in the plains with vanille and the black doode (savks or whatever) just beyond the huge hedgehogs and orb controlling weather things.

taking my lazy time playing the game, walking around and levelling up.

yeah the game is a tad linear at the moment, but all ff's are like that at the beginning. the visual game play is similar to ffxii, but i love how they brought back the fighting switch scenes. learning to switch philgilmwhatever, and creating ones that are missing takes a bit of getting use to though, but once u do, its no different than creating set attacks and heals.

I've played since FF1. It turned shit since square went bankrupt and started making it together with Enix. I truly miss FF7 and I wish they would make a PS3 version of it haha. I'd so buy it instead of newer series. No world map, can't fly my own airship, no mini games, no side quests, some weapons are ridiculously hard to get, etc. I've pretty much lost interest in FF now.

one thing i'd complain about this game.. they need to make the boss more challenging to beat.. i was under leveled when i beat the game coz i was speeding thru so i can farm~ i killed the last form of the last boss and got my gold trophy without even having to heal =\ i hope they release a patch where i get to fight the titan.. kinda like the omega weapons ruby weapons in the older ff series~ that would be awesome

I totally agree with you, every boss was like a piece of cake, except maybe the 2nd form of the last boss. Died a few times because of that stupid stop/poison/judgment combo. You know something is wrong when you beat the game without upgrading a single weapon lol.

End of eternity! I'm tempted to opt out of the platinum trophy in ff13. I've killed nearly 30 adamantoise an have still yet to get a Traph. I played EoE or half an hour and I'm hooked :(

Otherwise known as Resonance of Fate, theres a big learning curve to the game... pretty fun though... but gets fun after you understand how to play...

Finished the game couple of days ago and am kinda disappointed. No real development of the character and only able to control 1/3 toons. Way too much videos, play 15 mins FMV, play 10 mins FMV, etc Its nice to have a FMV when you hit a major milestone or event but seriously a FMV after every 3-4 fights is annoying. In the end got too sick of it and skipped most of the vids.

Also limited aeons/summons and a lame limit break.

Sorely miss the good old days where you fight ruby weapon with a counter dual cast-knights of the round combo and the yummy omnislash.

are you done all the missions? if not then lvl up a bit and farm the adamantoise for trapezhedron. if you done missions 62 or 63 i forgot which one ~ then you gonna have to farm it @ edenhall.. but i recommend farming it in the open plains as there are far more and don't have to reload each time
