So yeah

We are probably going to need at least 2 or 3 leagues again if we want to keep it down to 12 teams per league.

Yahoo have made it easier to set up the rules how you like them, so there are some things we should discuss.

For instance, many feel like the goalie stats need to be trimmed. Having saves AND save percentage, for instance, is redundant and gives goalies too much value. If a goalie gets a lot of WINS, he is going to have a good SV%, GAA, and SAVES so really, if anything, we only need to use the WINS category. Or maybe WINS and SAVES.

Also, do we still want to use the forward setup of C, RW, LW? We could do C + FORWARDS, or C + WINGERS.

For draft time, I suggest we do a Sunday afternoon draft. Or any time between and 7pm and midnight.. I got screwed last year since the draft was at 4am for me and I didn't make it.

We need to turn off the limit of trades and transactions, for those of us who got screwed by a bad draft.

Things like that we should discuss before putting everything together! I'll also use the first post to give details on where to join.

I'm up for joining. I'm against only having wins and saves. For instance, the goalies in DET/SJ get lots of wins, but don't usually have great GAA or SV%. I've usually played with GAA, SV%, WINS and SO, players stats are G, A, PPP, SHG, PIMS and HITS (occasionally). So goalie has one or two less cats than players.

I agree we should have a limit for transactions. Even though I've used it to win before, brute force shouldn't be a strategy; it's lazy and shows no skill.

Keep 7seven or someone knowledgeable as commish. Nothing worse than spending a season on a pool and see someone try to cheat near the end.

Ok RS1 has been renewed, renewal emails have been sent to everyone in RS1 except for Hondaracer as he requested out, opening up 1 spot in RS1.

RS1 changes made from last season 2 LW and 2 RW has now been changed to 4 W. Save % has been removed from goalie category. Max acquisitions set to 100 with no weekly limit.

RS2 has as been requested changed to an points league.

Renew emails have been sent to everyone registered in last years RS1 and RS2. If no response to by September 12, we will begin filling your spots with new participants. People wanting to move from RS1 to RS2 or vice versa, please post here and I will make the necessary adjustments. Number of teams in RS2 can also be adjusted to accommodate a few more.

If I recall, you guys were all in RS1 last year right, check your emails, you should have a renew link.


Everyone who renews have a look at the stats/settings, I'm open to tweeking them, some suggested no limit on transaction, some suggested even more strict limits. Voice your opinions.

For people who weren't in last year, do not worry, once we get a clear picture on the #s renewing, I'll make some adjustments, ie... add more teams, reducing # of players drafted, so people don't end up drafting 4th line scrubs for points.

for RS2, goalie wins should count as more and then losses should be negative points. This prevents people from pick/drop goalies when they play (ie picking up backups when they play without having any repercussions). It also makes goalies more valuable.

My suggestion is
W = 3
L = -1 or -2 depending on how hardcore you want to be
SO = 3

For RS2, since its a points league and not head to head where you need to account for non game days, I've reduced the # of transactions to 10 and changed the roster positions from 2G to 1G, 4D to 3D, 4 bench players to 0 and added 2 utility slots. Goalie losses will count for -1 and wins for +2.

most info can be found on the internet, sometimes having those ranking guides are great. TSN has some OKAY analysis, ive never actually read the yahoo guides

Where a player plays is obviously going to account for where he goes. Its why someone like Stephen Weiss gets overlooked so often because he plays in FLA, but the guy racks up 60-70pts and is their leading scorer. anywhere else, he might not have that kind of production. yet he can go to a team like boston and just completely dominate because of the surrounding players.

It was a dice roll between stamkos and daniel..
but becuz i ended up with stamkos in my own pool..i decided to take daniel.

H2H pool requires more than just research. theres more strategies involved hehe

and yes Corey Perry >>>> Nash

but taking a look at the line up, and taking on probability, Nash+Carter is LESS RISK vs Daniel + Perry
cuz if perry doesnt repeat what he does..both combos should end up with roughly the same pt production. the only added advantage corey perry gives is he sometimes gets teh PK time

i see sid as a HUGE risk yet HUGE reward. He wouldve ran away with the Rocket Art Ross and both MVPS had he not gotten concussed last season. But the way i see it, even if he returns early, he may not play up to the same level as last season. I wonder how much and what quality conditioning he wouldve done as if he were healthy this past off season.
Anyways, huge question marks regarding sid! Alot to ride on for your 1st round pick.

I believe Mario Lemieux and Pavel Bure both have praised on the hard work of Malkin during and post rehab to put his knee in top shape

One of his boss, so it is biased, the other is Pavel Bure, who speaks by experience.

The media has also reported that his knee's recovery has been excellent and no flaws/setbacks were found.

Malkin can kill it. especially in h2h pool. I think he's the darkhorse of the draft

noob fantasy hockey dude here. I am thinking about doing my first one on yahoo and see how it goes. What is the difference between head2head and rotisserie(the cooking one? LOL) or w/e it's called?

H2H pools are when u battle another team once a week.
The winner is determined by how many stat columns are won between the two teams each week. One point for every stat column won. Standings work by overall points

Rotisserie Pools are like H2H, but you compete with the entire league all at once in terms of stat columns. So if u win say the Goals Stat in a 14 team league, u get 14 points for being number one. Points are calculated based on that. So its a final total at the end

I've personally never have done a Rotisserie pool, but it seems similar enough to H2H that the strategies are almost the same. Its more competitive in H2H and has a better chance to make a comeback

I enjoy the Yahoo H2H pools because of the added depth. Its not always about who scores the most goals or points. Its WHERE the points lie. This is why guys like Brendan Morrow and RJ Umberger are much more valuable in these leagues. They might not rack up too many points compared to the elites, but these guys will gain u points on special teams columns like PP or SHP.

Ryan Kesler for example. Last year in a points league, the guy wouldnt be as valuable as he would have been in a H2H league due to the added depth. Yes he did have a break out year, but its where the points lie for him that make him that much more valuable.

I've said quite a bit of things, and to some members who have participated in my leagues somewhat know how I draft. I will leave this golden rule for Yahoo H2H.

DEPTH WINS YOU POOLS.

Head to head is definitely more competitive. I've only been in 4 or 5 pools, and all have been head to head. RS2 is my first points only and it's a really different strategy of drafting. For example in rotisserie, I find that goalies aren't as valuable as in a head to head league, whereas in head to head you usually account for stats like PIM's and plus/minus

oh, and +1 to depth winning you your pool.

I didn't get into RS1 or RS2, but I'm down for a keeper...but no salary cap thank you.

Skinny: Most of the time, depending of depth of the league, you'll draft like normal and at the end of the season, you'll get to keep a pre-determined amount of players, but give up the ability to draft at the round where you drafted your original players you decided to keep. So if you wanted to keep Sedin and you drafted him in the 1st round, you have to wait til the next round to draft. Some leagues have limits on how long you can keep a player (2-3 years max)...just to keep the players in rotation.
