Schiefele with a post. Murphy scares me in the d-zone, he's lost control of it skating backwards twice which had led to chances for Russia.

as much as I hate to see the Americans win, they deserved it Gibson was a absolute wall and stepped up their offence.

good on Sweden for making it back to the finals and keeping it close with the injuries and no Zibanejad

Steve Spott is literally the worst coach I've ever seen behind the Team Canada bench.
1) Publicly choosing a no. 1 goaltender for a 2-wk tourney. Binnington deserved a chance.
2) Putting Murphy on the team and letting him play top 4 minutes despite his terrible play, clearly because Murphy is the captain of Spott's Kitchener Rangers.
3) Not being able to adapt when he is being badly outcoached.
4) Can't get his team to buy into his system.
5) Because he doesn't have a system.
6) Can't get his team to play disciplined hockey.
7) Can't get his team to settle down when rattled.
8 ) Can't inspire his team to get going.
9) I get a general sense that he has no idea wtf he is doing.

Just going to quote this from a few days ago...

Still true.

very true. Murphy was way out of his league.. He looked like a bantam player out there.. all those jovonovski like giveaways in his own zone. bad positioning. horrible outlet passes, and like the last play of the tourny, an effin PYLON.

worst junior team to represent canada in a LONG time. HOPKINS was the only bright light. I feel bad for him, as he should have made it last year. He was noticeably a man amongst boys out there with his poise and playmaking.

I think its time to Hockey Canada to re-assess their Hockey Development Program

there was a reason why Murphy got cut all those times during his WJC selection tryouts....its because he is a fucking pylon and sucks at defence! At least Ellis when he played a few years ago was used better then Murphy was. That was a major coaching error by Spott. But yeah the reason why they didnt pick Corrado was I assume his draft selection was much lower then Murphys and politics. Over all Corrado is a better player plus I think a little bigger as well.

Murphy plays for Spott
If Murphy was used correctly, he wouldnt that big of a liability.

The only thing for him now is to improve his defensive game, cuz a kid with that much offensive skill can be a threat

This I agree with. I know everyone is on Murphy's case, and I agree that he may not have been at the level defensively as other players may have been, but watching him rush up the ice and moving the puck, he had the offensive talent. All that was needed was to utilize him better and limiting his ice time to those situations.

The American's constant improvement I think has been a direct result of the NHLs southern expansion, typically before you would only really see kids in Massachusetts, Minnesota, Michigan and North Eastern New York area play hockey and turn pro. Nowdays look at all the great hockey talent coming out of Texas, Colorado and California.

As more American kids get exposed to hockey, more of their natural gifted athletes hopefully will choose hockey and given their population size, only was a matter of time the US would rival Canada.

Sure US expansion has been a finanical disaster in the NHL, but I think in long run has been good for the growth of the game of hockey as a whole.

Exactly, and since 2010, the US Hockey Program has capitalized on all the success on an international stage.

Southern Expansion may be a disaster, but look at the state of Texas and what Mike Modano and the stars have done. They believe in the game that it should grow from the kids and up. Not only have they built a fanbase within the kids from 15-20yrs ago, they now have buying power and could be putting their kids into hockey programs

It's not that Canada's hockey program has gotten worse per se, it's the fact that everybody else has improved their hockey programs.

^True, but the lockout should have benefited us the most. That was just a horrible tourney.
