better way to go imo. That way you know it's waiting for you to pick it up.

That said, as much as things can go wrong with a delivery, things can go wrong in store too. I chose to ship to my work since it's more convenient and reliable for me being at work every day, but there's a chance I might not get it on launch day.

Not interested in either. So far only FF15, KH3 would be the titles that I would probably get a PS4 for. But still not enough for me to even get these titles on release date anymore.

The only games that I could think of that I would be willing to pick it up on the first day would be GTA and Gran Turismo, and both of these titles are still coming out for PS3.

PS3 launch was much different, not only it could play all my PS2 games, it was also the most affordable bluray player, all to go along with my first 1080P TV at the time.

I've gone thru at least 4-5 xbox 360 controllers already. The left analog stick just keeps wearing out. But for Dual shock 3, I'm still using my original one, even all the PS3s I'm still using are the original 60GB with PS2 bc

yeah it depends on what type of game you play

like CoD that binds running into R3 I think the left analog wears out fast

Yes, Im currently using 2 controllers one of which is a stock one from 7 years ago and one from 3 years ago. Both are perfectly fine and going strong. I had another stock controller that broke a few years back but it was the RB button that got messed up.

3 years is still a long time (depending on usage), mine is only about 3 1/2 years old now and like I said it feels totally fine until I pick up a nearly brand new controller and it feels just that bit tighter. Of course this is all a completely moot point now as the new consoles roll out, though personally I'll be holding off on the PS4 for a year at least after it goes on sale.

The developer-led initiative to create PS4 has led to the console becoming as approachable to developers as the original PlayStation, a key system architect has claimed.


Mark Cerny, who has spent five years working with Sony to build the next generation PlayStation console, made the claim during a keynote address at the GameLab expo in Barcelona.

He explained his reasoning using the term "time to triangle" - a phrase which essentially means how long it takes coders to create usable graphics with the hardware.


In a slide presented to the audience, he claimed that programmers commonly required one to two months to produce low-level graphics code on PlayStation One.


Cerny then claimed that the PS2 - a system remembered for its complex and sophisticated architecture - required three to six months of coding for studios to get going.


Later in the presentation, he remarked on a PS3 development meeting he had with Ken Kutaragi back in 2004. Kutaragi, the former head of Sony Computer Entertainment, told Cerny to focus less on "time to triangle" and more on the bigger picture of building highly sophisticated hardware.


"Triangle counts are misguided," was, according to Cerny, what Kutaragi had told him. As a result, the PlayStation 3 was the most complex system yet, requiring six to twelve months for studios to build usable graphics code.


Cerny said that, prior to Sony releasing the PS3, first-party PlayStation studios were struggling with the hardware.


"The third party teams were having an even more difficult time," he said.
At launch, the internal focus shifted from sharing technology (to help devs) to working on launch titles (to create games). Cerny said much of the direction in the creation of PS3 was "clearly a mistake".


Cerny, who says he spent an entire holiday in 2007 researching the history of x86 hardware to see if it was possible on a next-gen console, told the audience that his direction is different to Kutaragi's.


As the key PS4 system architect, Cerny said that in 2008 he sent a questionnaire for third parties to ask what features they wanted on future hardware.


After speaking with more than thirty teams from around the world, he said the most popular request from developers was unified memory - a requirement which the PS4 team fulfilled.


Cerny said the company was tempted to add an eDRAM chip to the system, as it would increase the memory speeds in further, but eventually declined as it would mean more work for studios to get running.


"The straightforward approach we have gives us excellent day one performance," he claimed.


Altogether, the "time to triangle" on PlayStation 4 takes about one or two months, Cerny claimed, which theoretically makes the system as developer friendly as the original PlayStation.


This ease of use benefits the "vital" third parties, and in particular indie developers, Cerny said.

I think i may just buy the console, download a few demo's check those out, digitally purchase a few single player games until i read more reviews about the multi players.

I am interested in that racing game Drive Club, but it won't be fun unless a group of friends play it together. Everything else is kind of blah for me, MGSV seems great too as im a huge fan of MGS games, however its not a launch title. Killzone is always a great title but it doesn't hold much replay value.

Now that I've quit my job, I'm gonna pass on a little bit of insider information... Sony has not made any official commitment to ANY Canadian retailer (online or big box store) for shipment quantities. As far as any Canadian company knows, Sony may ship a million units across the country... or ten... for launch day. You'll notice no company is guaranteeing delivery for day 1 with their pre-orders. It's the reason why BB/FS took down their PS4 presale page within hours, and it's the same reason why other companies who normally sell this stuff aren't allowing presales.

Is there ANY reason to get a PS4 at launch if you aren't a die-hard Killzone fan? AC4 and BF4 doesn't really count as they are launching on current-gen and PC...correct me fi I'm wrong PS4/XB1 offers no advantages over current-gen versions.

At least back then when PS3 launched you can argue you are buying a blu-ray player...I see absolutely no incentive to get a PS4 at launch.

If you're going to get one to play they games you'd buy for PS3 anyway (AC4, BF4, etc) and hope the exclusives are good next year, then you might as well.. otherwise there really is no reason to, unless you just want the latest shit just for the sake of owning the latest shit

If you have a decent PC to start with, taking $300 of whatever you would have put into a console and buying a GPU would be a MUCH better investment, and pretty much future proof.

If you are just aiming for console level performance and graphics, you wouldn't have had to upgrade since 2006 or so. GPUs were more expensive then, but they were already ahead of consoles, especially PS3.

If you are only aiming for console specs (640x480 res, or maybe 720p, at 30 fps steady with 2 frame vsync) then you would be fine with the 8800 GTS or something similar that came out for around $300 in 2006-2007

Today if you buy a R9 280X or GeForce 760, you are already well ahead of consoles, and will remain so because consoles will always be what they are. You will probably always get to play console ports at 1080p with at least 30 fps, which is what the XB1 and PS4 are aiming for with most games.

Consoles have the advantage of low level API programming, but today's $300 cards make up for that with way more horespower and a much higher thermal envelope and power consumption allowances.

yea I checked NCIX and it says first batch sold out or whatever... so amazon has the $800 bundles that probably nobody is buying eh ? no way, I'm not that desperate considering I'll only be playing NBA 2K14 on the system, and Gran Turismo when it comes out..... but I remember paying $800 for the PS3 on release day, and I remember specifically we all got suckered into paying that because of the PS3's cool new "revolutionary" CELL PROCESSOR thinking it was worth it, turns out nobody coded their games for that piece of complicated shit, only Polyphony Digital had Gran Turismo running at 1080p and 60fps... everything else looked typically worse than the xbox 360..
I was really looking forward to paying almost half as much for the PS4 this time around just for the principle of it

regarding COD ghosts the xb1 is 720p and the ps4 is 1080p and i think 60fps but according to reviews the PS4 drops frames

and from what i read it's not because the xbox1/ps4 sucks its that the developers were developing based on "theoretical numbers" and microsoft had changed their specs a couple times throughout development of the game and the COD developers were unable to apply the latest specs in time (somewhat similar issue for the ps4)

but i've no clue myself just googled that :P

You do realize this sounds the exact same as every XBox fanboy before the 360/3 launches right? TitanFall doesn't look like anything special to me, and Halo bores the ever loving shit out of me because it's been basically the same shit for years. Have you played Uncharted? I'd never miss a game like Uncharted to get a couple of FPS games when there's already a tonne of others out there.

Those are just my preferences of course, but thinking the XBox is better just because of Halo is stupid.

Titanfall is actually indeed a Microsoft exclusive, its a deal EA made with, and Respawn wasnt even aware that it became an exclusive title until the day it was announce.. im pretty sure they would rather go multiplatform

I dont think xbox is better because of halo at all. In fact all signs point to the fact that the console is actually inferior. I merely pointed out that no matter what I still want to play Halo 5.

I'm going with one of those 250gb'ish SSD's, don't wanna spend more than $200 after taxes... should be enough since I'm only interested in yearly sports titles, so basically I would just end up deleting the files from Fifa 14 when Fifa 15 comes out thus clearing up space

Only other game I really want is Gran Turismo when it comes out, I don't even wanna know what the install size for that sumbitch is gonna be, I honestly expect probably something around 60gb for mandatory, and 100gb+ for "optimal" experience....

With 30GB+ install sizes, and no support for external HDD, you are very limited. I guess the only other option is to stick with a slow mechanical HDD.

probably safer to wait to see if it makes a dramatic reduction in load time...at 500GB it should be plenty unless you're going almost digital (now that PS+ is pretty much mandatory to play online perhaps the deals wont be as good any more)

so the OS n reserved space itself is close to 100GB, that makes only 400Gb out of the 500GB oem hdd useable. If i go for a smaller SSD like say 256GB, only 156GB is useable while 100GB is used for OS and system.

You will want to DL this now rather than while every single other owner is downloading it. At 300MB their servers may have trouble handling the load.

To install it you will need to go into safe mode (hold power button 7 seconds when turning on) and install from a USB

Going by the fact that the two machines now share the same x86 architecture, it should be pretty similar now. It seems as though Sony is really pushing their "we're going to be very indie-developer friendly" ideas in all of their major speeches/events. They say that it's a console that facilitates easy development, which wasn't the case with the outgoing CELL technology.

As for APIs and the like for Sony- I can't comment on that as I've never developed for either console.

I wouldn't be too worried yet. I preorder games from BB and FS all the time and I never get shipping notifications until the morning of a release. Their wherehouse is in Richmond and I have always received my order the same day typically within 5 hours. If you get no shipping info on Friday then I would be worried.

Sorry but i'll have to chime in on this. PS3 is SATA2, so it's not really taking advantage of the SSD speeds. Knowing that GT5 was heavily relied on HDD space, I opted for a SSD at the time. Honestly didn't make a significant difference in loading times. The whole point of the console is to have level playing field amongst your competitors, so i'm sure there's not gonna be any performance/value-added benefits in doing this. If anything just get a 1TB 7200RPM...that'll be a good step up than the stock ones no?

Sorry but you don't know what you're talking about. SSDs don't need SATA3 to be faster than a 5400 RPM mechanical laptop drive. SATA2 is plenty, so is SATA1 and even USB.

game's that are eligible for the $10 next gen upgrade will be specified on the cover of the game. the game will come with a code. i will most likely move my bf and cod to next gen.

I used game install as a test because level loading isn't an easily controlled test to run. A lot of information gets preloaded into memory, etc.

I doubt the PS4 will have TRIM since it wasn't created with SSD in mind. In that case, you will need to get a drive with good idle garbage collection, and one that can stand up to drive amplification well. This unfortunately leaves out drives from Samsung and Crucial which are often the cheapest :\

True, potentially the shipping notification could be the morning of. It's happened to me on a few occasions.

Anyways, I can't find Best Buys stupid shipping zone map right now but the closer you live to where its being shipped from, the later the shipping notification will come because really for most if not all of us, it should be same day delivery. So don't expect an email until this afternoon at the earliest and as late as tomorrow morning.

You'll read that some people got shipping notifications already in other parts of Canada but those people live farther away so it would take 2+ days to reach them. WHAT? Did you call them? That said they have pretty weak customer service.

If that's really the case, I'd be calling for the manager every day. You can always tweet them (do they have twitter monitored by customer service?). I read stories on how that seems to fix things :suspicious:

i had a similar problem with my recent preorder of ghost at bestbuy.

i got the email confirmation that my order was placed, but the order did not exist in my online account. i called bestbuy about it and the fellow said it could be a "glitch" in the system, as he could see my order on his end. it was the weekend before release and my cc still had not been charged yet. by this time, it should be charged already. in the end, i just cancelled my preorder and took my business to eb.

this isn't the first time this had happened. i remember preordering bf3 years ago, but the same thing happened. even days after the game launched, my cc still wasn't charged. cancelled that one as well.
