Southsiders got told to sit down for a reason, its not a standing area. They were blocking people who had paid to sit, and watch the game. If there was a standing room area only, it would be great to have them there.

Related note to the Derek Boogaard death.

They arrested 2 people that wrote prescriptions and supplied him with the pain killers.

Arrests made in connection with Boogaard's death (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=461343)

Arrests have been made in connection with the 2011 death of NHL forward Derek Boogaard.

The Manhattan U.S. Attorney's office announced Tuesday that Jordan Hart, the son of former New York Islander Gerry Hart, was arrested on Long Island on Tuesday morning by the Drug Enforcement Administration's New York task force while physician's assistant Oscar Johnson was arrested in Utah.

According to the office's release, Hart supplied Boogaard with prescription pain killers that killed him, while Johnson is accused of writing bogus Percocet prescriptions for Hart on a near-monthly basis over two years.

"As alleged, for more than two years, Oscar Johnson casually provided Percocet prescriptions to a former minor league hockey player without once treating or examining that player during that period," said Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in the release.

"The minor league player, Jordan Hart, then filled those prescriptions and sold the corresponding drugs to Derek Boogaard, an NHL player, feeding Boogaard's growing, debilitating addiction. Ultimately, that addiction, fueled at least in part by the drugs that Johnson illegally prescribed, and Hart peddled for cash, culminated in Boogaard's tragic overdose death. We have seen far too many tragedies from prescription drug overdoses. This Office will continue to warn people of the dangers of prescription drug abuse and investigate and prosecute those who illegally deal in pain medications wherever we find them. And finally, the sports world is not exempt from federal narcotics law and should not expect to be."

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Boogaard was found dead in his apartment in Minneapolis on May 13, 2011 of drug and alcohol overdose, five months after he sustained a season-ending concussion with the New York Rangers.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner announced the following week that his cause of death was an accident due to a mix of alcohol and the pain killer oxycodone.

Considering how much it costs to be a season ticket holder, I can understand why some would have bailed.

If we had Florida or Phoenix prices, I guarantee our waitlist would not go down.

maybe if they infused the current lineup with more youth instead of the stale mid thirty somethings that will be next season.

anyone know what's the deal with rogers center ice?
apparently it's free til dec 31st, 2014 if you're a rogers customer
anyone signed up yet?

Report: HBO has ?walked? from ?24/7? partnership with NHL | ProHockeyTalk (http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/09/11/report-hbo-has-walked-from-247-partnership-with-nhl/)

Well this sucks, HBO has walked away from their partnership with the NHL to make the 24/7 series. TSN tried a similar series with the Oilers, but that was just beyond horrible with just brutal production value, editing, filming, etc... HBO does these sports series the best with NFL's Hard Knocks and 24/7 for Boxing.

lol some rule changes for next season...no more spin-o-ramas!

NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League announced today a series of rules changes for the 2014-15 season, following approval earlier in the summer by the League's Board of Governors and the National Hockey League Players' Association:

Rule 1.8 – Rink - Goalkeeper's Restricted Area

The trapezoid will be expanded by two feet from the goal post on both sides of the net.

Rule 23 – Game Misconduct Penalties

A new Game Misconduct category will be created. Clipping, charging, elbowing, interference, kneeing, head-butting and butt-ending move from the general category into the same category as boarding and checking from behind ("Physical Fouls"), whereby a player who incurs two such game misconducts in this category would now be automatically suspended for one game.

Rule 24 – Penalty Shot

The 'Spin-O-Rama' move, as described in Section 24.2 of the 2013-14 NHL Rule Book, will no longer be permitted either in Penalty Shot situations or in the Shootout.

Rule 38 – Video Goal Judge

Video review will be expanded in the following areas:

* Rule 38.4 (viii) has been modified to allow broader discretion to Hockey Operations to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g., to ensure they are "good hockey goals"). The revised Rule will allow Hockey Operations to correct a broader array of situations where video review clearly establishes that a "goal" or "no goal" call on the ice has been made in error. The new expanded rule will also allow Hockey Operations to provide guidance to referees on goal and potential goal plays where the referee has blown his whistle (or intended to blow his whistle) after having lost sight of the puck.

* In reviewing "Kicked in Goals," Hockey Operations will require more demonstrable video evidence of a "distinct kicking motion" in order to overrule a "goal" call on the ice, or to uphold a "no goal" call on the ice.

Rule 57 – Tripping

The rule relating to "Tripping" will be revised to specifically provide that a two minute minor penalty will be assessed when a defending player "dives" and trips an attacking player with his body/arm/shoulder, regardless of whether the defending player is able to make initial contact with the puck.

But, in situations where a penalty shot might otherwise be appropriate, if the defending player "dives" and touches the puck first (before the trip), no penalty shot will be awarded. (In such cases, the resulting penalty will be limited to a two-minute minor penalty for tripping.)

Rule 64 – Diving / Embellishment

The supplementary discipline penalties associated with Rule 64.3 (Diving/Embellishment) will be revised to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties. Fines will be assessed to players and head coaches on a graduated scale outlined below.

Incident # Player Fine(s) Head Coach Fine(s)
1 Warning N/A
2 $2,000 N/A
3 $3,000 N/A
4 $4,000 $2,000
5 $5,000 $3,000
6 $5,000 $4,000
7 $5,000 $5,000
8 $5,000 $5,000
Rule 76 – Face-offs

To curb delay tactics on face-offs after icing infractions, in situations where the defending team is guilty of a face-off violation, following an icing, the defending player who is initially lined up for the face-off will be given a warning, but will be required to remain in the circle to take the face-off. A second face-off violation by the defending team in such situation will result in a two minute minor bench penalty.

Rule 84 – Overtime

* Teams will switch ends prior to the start of overtime in the regular season.

* The entire ice surface will undergo a "dry scrape" prior to the start of overtime in the regular season.

* The procedure requiring the head coach to submit a list of the first three shooters in the shoot-out has been eliminated.

Rule 85 – Puck Out of Bounds

There have been further rule changes made relating to face-off location to avoid penalizing teams for plays intended to create bona fide scoring opportunities. Specifically, the following are "categories of plays" where face-offs will remain in the attacking zone despite the fact that the attacking team was technically responsible for the stoppage in play: Shots at the net by a player on the attacking team where: (i) the shot breaks the glass; (ii) the shot goes off the side of the net and deflects out of play; (iii) the shot goes off the dasher boards or glass and deflects out of play; (iv) the shot is tipped or deflected out of play by a teammate; and (v) the shot becomes wedged in or on the exterior of the goal net.

In addition, the following rule change will be enacted for the 2014 preseason and may be continued for the 2014/15 regular season if approved by the League and the NHLPA.

Rule 1.9 – Rink – Face-off Spots and Circles – Ice Markings/Hash Marks

The hash marks at the end zone circles will be moved from three feet apart to five feet, seven inches apart (international markings).

Totally agree that the demand is down. I've been a half season ticket holder for 8 years or so now and every year I pick a few games I want to go to and sell the rest for Ticket Master Face or lower to recoup my money + interest and in the odd occasion maybe some profit to cover a game or 2. Making money is the least of my interest, I just want to go to a few games and break even on the rest. The first 6 years, tickets were easy to sell and at this point in the year I would have sold them all already.

Last year I definite saw a decline. I still managed to sell them all in September but it took more work and was the first time I would constantly see people selling for cost on Craigslist etc throughout the year.

Forward to this year, 11 game ice packs available even up until this moment. These icepacks had wait lists in years past. Scan Craigslist and even Revscene Classifieds and everyone is selling for cost. Not even Ticket Master cost, but their cost just to break even vs being greedy and lose money. Times a changing, we'll see how this season turns out.

I hope Gaudreau can translate that into the real NHL (not a Flames fan). It's not too often you see skill like that from a guy that small. Judging by his performances among his age group he's clearly got NHL talent. Take into account his WHC performance, and one might think he can hang with the big boys.

But just looking at his size stats makes me so scared for him. If PK ever lined him up the way he lined up Marchand Gaudreau might actually explode. I consider the Nug small and this guy is even smaller.

24/7 moves to some network no one has ever heard of.

And that’s of course why EPIX is willing to ante up for the NHL. Burnside writes that EPIX is available to 50 million subscribers. It’s still fighting for carriage deals – AT&T U-verse recently added it – and having a property like the NHL is important. Hockey fans are activists. If we want to see “EPIX Twenty-Faux/Seven” and don’t get the network, then we’re going to (announcer voice) “call our local cable provider” and ask for it.

Fuck off...are you kidding me? It's 2014. If something isn't on TV, you torrent that shit or wait for Netflix. "Ask your local cable provider" is something that only baby boomers might do. Get with the times, you dorks. Just give a production company $500k and then put that shit ON YOUTUBE.

my thoughts exactly. so with the canucks(NHL) being projected as a mediocre team for the next few seasons, you would hope they would have some quality prospect pools which they dont. so it looks to be mediocrity for a while until your playoff(contender) ready 5+ years down the road. your just hitting were calgary was 9 years ago. Dont get me wrong, i am not calling calgary a contender, i still think we have a couple years till we can actually be a threat for a cup(baring a cinderalla run). Though the canucks are trying to pull a 2005-2006 calgary by putting in pieces that they think they can improve them, but will most likely keep them average. The longer they keep trading for cog pieces, and not draft pics, the more years they will be out of the stanley cup picture. It took calgary 8 years to realize this....i hope it doesnt take the canucks that long

murd0c
09-16-2014, 09:17 AM
the last couple of years they have stocked some really nice prospects but the previous 5 years of nothing doesn't help much. That being said they don't have many roster spots for rookies which hopefully will allow them to develop but we need to start tossing some young kids into the lineup to get some good experience.

But trading away core players for draft picks doesn't always work. Look at Edmonton or Buffalo...hell even Florida.

For the team to stay competitive, you need your core players, your leaders, and you have to have everyone to buy into the team. Not be like we're not making the playoffs anyways, lets plan our trip to Vegas.

Look at teams like Detroit or San Jose, they have aging core players (Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kronwall / Thorton/ Marleau / Boyle (gone now). They retooled the team with Nyquist, Tartar, Hertl, Couture.

Tegra_Devil
09-16-2014, 10:11 AM
I dont think vancouver should get rid of most of their core, yes there are a few that probably should go. But they are trading away picks and players and getting average players and worst pics.

San jose, won the lottery on Hertl, but yes, the rest were good pics.

Vancouver is not going to have a competitive cupboard, with a bunch of 5 round pics. I am not too sure where they stand in the next couple years in picks, but you need to get a couple 1st rounders in a draft year or a few 2nd rounders if possible..but they seem to have an influx of 4th and 5thers.

And from watching the games, I would say Bo and Hunter are still at least another year from being NHL ready, they were pretty invisible during the tourny. Hunter was the better of the 2 though, and their best player for the prospect canucks was curtis valk, and he isnt even drafted or signed to the canucks

Vancouvers prospect teams were pretty man handed by all three of the teams at the tourney. They just didnt seem to have the skill to match the oilers or jets speed, and certainly didnt have enough to match the flames size and speed.

there isn't as much things quantitative in the NHL compared to the MLB. But given time they will find a way to weigh or scale and it should become a common practice with most teams

A lot of these "analytics" seem to be basic stats plugged into an excel sheet and turned into a graph. Maybe I should get hired by the Canucks since I can do basic excel modelling.

I think there is some value, but MLSE is making way too big of a deal over this, most likely due to the fact that they are grasping at straws by this point.

One of the things i read for hockey analytics says that the "better" hockey team wins a hockey game 23% of the time, the remaining 77% is up to chance and all the other variables. David Booth was and is a strong possession player and play driver, but we all know how that story plays out.

So yes advanced stats currently don't say a whole lot. They should be part of the equation for sure but should not be leaned on as THE driving force behind personel decisions, with what we currently know anyways

i personally...and this is a personal opinion, dont think analytics works in hockey as it would in MLB. I dont view baseball as a sport that involves a lot of character or push. they can analyze hitting, pitching, steals all that shit. but besides that, i dont believe it requires much heart or character.

There are too many variables in hockey to analyze a player strickly on their stats, there is so much push/pain/heart behind a hockey player, injuries on hits, plays at different transitional speeds, positioning etc. you cant possible believe you can calculate the best possible collection with all these variables.

MLB, you run in a designated line, you stop, continue to a new position. there isnt many variables compared to other sports.

I am not entirely sure how analytics works with NFL and NBA, but i could see NHL and NFL being so near impossible to use analytics to provide a winning formula

Though the canucks are trying to pull a 2005-2006 calgary by putting in pieces that they think they can improve them, but will most likely keep them average. The longer they keep trading for cog pieces, and not draft pics, the more years they will be out of the stanley cup picture. It took calgary 8 years to realize this....i hope it doesnt take the canucks that long

this is why i was (and still am) so frustrated with the ryan miller deal, fck
lack's not an elite goalie but he could very well be one in a year or 2, let him play and get experience while at the same time side-betting jacob markstrom... lack's already had good mentorship from luu who he keeps in close contact with

Yeah, only got us to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and 2 Presidents Trophies. The horror ...

First, Miller has a limited NTC (compared to the full NTC Luongo had save for the two "trade windows") ... If Lack surpasses him, Miller can't just outright refuse a trade. He has to submit a list of teams.

Second, Miller doesn't have a decade-long contract saddled by new penalties introduced after signing it, making it practically untradeable.

Third, ownership didn't want to trade Luongo. I doubt they have any such attachment to Miller.

Fourth, Lack is not Schneider.

Right because great players like the Sedins love to play every game in which they may have only a chance to win. Lack got plenty of losing experience last year. If the young players all know how to lose, who are they going to learn from on how to win? See Edmonton

Lu and Miller's situations are in no way similar. Lu still has 7 years left on his contract, the major issue with that cap hit moving forward, which really isn't that big a deal in several seasons anyways. Lu wouldn't have had to be traded if he was managed properly last season. But then again no guarantee he would have even reported to training camp for this season as a Canuck without the lure of showcasing for the Olympics.

Miller signed a 3 year deal, nothing saying you can't move him after 1 or 2 years at the deadline to a contender needing goaltending help if/when Lack is ready and whoever the new backup will be is also ready. As mentioned previous Miller has a much more flexible NTC. And Miller would be worth at least a mid-round draft pick or two as well, if not more.

Generally I hate buzz words, especially in sports. Clearly the way things were being run in Toronto wasn't working. Watching the team repel huge amounts of shots each night was nerveracking and frustrating to watch. Shannahan is moving the Leafs into the 21st century with all the analytics guys and scouts he's acquired and its about time. It will be interesting to see if Carlyle and Nonis are able to adjust. I don't see Carlyle lasting the season but I could be wrong. With all the 1 year contracts, the team is either well poised to have guys earn a bigger contract, or to have a fire-sale and get McDavid.

So your point is that the Flames have been more successful as a franchise because of what they did in the 1980s?

I sure hope you were born in the 70s or earlier so you at least had a chance to enjoy it because there hasn't been anything to enjoy since then except a single Cinderella run 10 years ago.

I'll take my (for the most part) annually competitive team, even if they come up a little short of the ultimate goal, than a team that does something of significance every 10-15 years surrounded by complete ineptitude ... clinging to a single Stanley Cup victory 25 years ago.

calgary is as bad (actually much worse since it has been so long) than carolina or tampa bay.

Ok, so if you want to take cup wins out of the equation, fine.

Take series wins out of it then. Because I can just as easily argue that Calgary didn't have the "luck and timing" to take it out of the first round in 1990, or in 2006 despite having some really strong teams, just as Vancouver didn't have the luck or timing to close the deal in 1994 or 2011.

If the Flames are such a poor organization, the Canucks are even worse. Calgary holds 123-87-33 against Vancouver all-time. Source (http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/CGY/head2head.html)

And independently, Calgary holds a 1491-1279-379 record, well over .500, for a win-loss differential of 212. Vancouver holds a 1415-1504-391 record, win-loss differential of -89.

Vancouver would have to win 301 more games to match Calgary's all-time win number to date. They'd have to win every single game for almost the next four seasons. And that's despite the Canucks being in the league for what, ten more years?

Yes, Flames suck right now, yes they've sucked for a few years now, and many years before too. But hey, the Canucks are far, far, far from a shining beacon of success. If Calgary is "a losing organization", Vancouver is "THE losing organization".

And, again, I don't give a fuck that the Canucks sucked shit in the 70s and the 80s while the Flames were awesome in the 80s ... I wasn't even alive through most of that.

That was 30+ fucking years ago. It's like listening to Oilers fans and Leafs fans brag about cups they won before they were born. No one gives a shit.

Over the 5-10 years (aka recent history), the Canucks have been the FAR superior team and it's not even close.

You may find this shocking, but most people watch hockey for entertainment value, which winning plays a significant part in most markets (Toronto exempt). Why do you think ticket prices were sky-high in Vancouver when the Canucks were winning Presidents' Trophies and dropped through the floor when they sucked shit last year?

So, since this spawned from me saying the Flames have been irrelevant for the past 25 years (and jeedee saying they've been irrelevant since 2004), please explain to us how the Flames have been relevant over that time span (in other words, prove us wrong rather than just deflect it onto another target like a bitch).

Past 25 years (24 seasons)
Canucks: 16 playoff appearances (4 in past 5 seasons), advanced past the first round 9 times (2 times in past 5 seasons), 13 playoff series wins (4 in past 5 seasons), 2 Stanley Cup Finals appearances (1 in past 5 seasons), 2 Presidents' Trophies (2 in past 5 seasons), 9 Divisional Titles (4 in past 5 seasons).

Flames: 11 playoff appearances (0), advanced past the first round 1 time (0), 3 playoff series wins (0), 1 Stanley Cup Finals appearance (0), 0 Presidents' Trophies (0), 3 Divisional Titles (0).

No need to get angry there buds. I can guarantee it isn't just the flames oilers and leafs saying your not a winning franchise. It's most of the league. Ya ur a tough team to play against. I'll give you that, but u are not a franchise with a championship. Ur one of those floater teams that has no finish. Yes, the flames haven't had any finish in a long time.

But ur just like 70% of the other fans out there. A greasy haired, mocha latte sipping hipster, who lets the world know how great they are but never actually accomplishing what an NHL franchise sets out to do.

It doesn't matter when cups have been won. It matters that the NHL had a storied history of great teams, teams that have made a name for themselves on Lord Stanley's Cup. And you good sir, are not one of those teams. I like to bug leaf fans, but in the end my team isn't nearly as storied as them or successful. I am a fan of my team and it's history, I am also a fan of hockey and it's history. Detroit dynasties, islander power houses, your Canucks are not in that history. Yes, your a team in the league, but so are the Florida panthers. Only true hockey fans cheer for their team as a 'Whole' not just the now. That's why Vancouver is known as a bandwagon team.

If it upsets u that I bring up the past...too bad. In your 40+ year history your team should have done something about it, but they didn't. So don't be a whiny baby lol

One day the Canucks will win a cup and u will earn ur place in history, and I guarantee that 20 years after that Stanley cup win, some
Fans are gonna be super proud of that victory and love looking at that banner hanging in the arena.

So If u don't like a passionate history, get the fuck away from hockey, u aren't a real fan.

This is why I never take jabs at other teams or their fans, but only choose to support and criticize my own.

Everyone's going to have their own biased opinion on their favourite team.
And there's never going to be a clear way to determine a winner with all the different variables in defining the "better" team.
If you guys are going to bitch about it, at least break it down into categories.

Overall, Canucks fans don't have a lot of bragging rights. Until we've won the Cup, we really can't say shit about any other team that has. The Cup is the ONLY thing that matters. In sports, no championships, no legacy/no care.

I'm as big of a Canucks fan as anyone here, but that is my opinion and I think it is also the general concensus of sports fans not completely blinded by homer goggles welded to their face.

Sure the Flames have sucked donkey balls but they also iced a formidable opponent not too long ago in the WCE era (that would have won the Cup if Cloutier weren't here!!! )

Canucks sucked donkey balls pretty much after 82 until Bure showed up and we had a shot in 94. Then fucking Messier came in and I'm sure a lot of us remember those days as well.

So let's all get off our high horse and stop bitching about who's legacy is just a little better than the others because, honestly, it's a a fight very near the bottom of the roller coaster that is the NHL standings.

Majestic12
09-18-2014, 06:37 AM

I like how you're permitted to dictate whatever criteria that is worthy of consideration. If you can't have a discussion about sports without getting angry and resorting to name-calling, then you need to A) take a step back and re-evaluate your priorities B) calm the fuck down C) grow up.

Congrats, you're better than Calgary has been in the last 5 years? Great, that's when our team was on the decline - aging Kiprusoff, aging Iggy, aging Tanguay, no good prospects, etc, and a series of poor trades like Dion Phaneuf, etc. But all throughout that time, Calgary's still had a full house at the dome (as far as I can recall), and in the past 3 years or so has fully re-stocked the prospect cabinet with some seriously good talent like Monahan, Gaudreau, and Bennett, and Gio has developed into a top 10 defender in the league.

In the same time, you've had playoff appearances, one finals appearance. Yes, Congrats. But throughout the same time, the Canucks developed a terrible rep for being a bunch of whiny, diving bitches, especially Burrows, who apparently likes eating fingers. You've gone from two good goalies, either of whom could be starters in the league, to nothing, in the last couple of years. Since the brawl last January, your team pretty much sank like a rock. You're where Calgary was five years ago. Aging superstars, still clawing away to try and sneak one last cup run through before everyone retires.

Both sides have their good and their bad... and you're not the one that gets to decide the basis for making those decisions.

Majestic12
09-18-2014, 06:41 AM
It's funny because the coach in your gif couldn't win anything in Calgary and won 2 cups in LA immediately after joining the team. Lol

Not really, he only coached in Calgary for three seasons. First season we missed the playoffs. Second season was the finals run. Third season Calgary got bounced in the first round. After that he moved up to GM.

So let's all get off our high horse and stop bitching about who's legacy is just a little better than the others because, honestly, it's a a fight very near the bottom of the roller coaster that is the NHL standings.

Agreed.

Watching that Ducks video reminded me that Boudreau is the coach. I wonder how his style will rub Kes considering 17 seems to have a problem with authority.

Also heard today that Selanne apparently said he retired because of Boudreau and thinks he still has more gas in the tank..

No way the Jackets let their best player walk after the best season they've ever had.

That being said, the kid isn't worth a $6.5m contract. Maybe more in the $4-4.5 range. I have a feeling an offer sheet might be on the way.

From the Zack Kassian Van Sun article I had to bring this part over:

HAMMER TIME: Kevin Bieksa was on the receiving end of a hard hit from defensive partner Dan Hamhuis during battle drills Saturday.

“I think we have to patch those stop signs back on our jerseys,” Bieksa said afterwards. “I thought it was a little bit from behind, but his Mom was in the crowd, so I should have known he was going to do whatever it took to impress her.”

Hunter Shinkaruk 2-1 goal vs Sharks (Sep. 23, 2014) - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OChlWslSAxw&feature=youtu.be)
Shink has such great offensive habits. Make a play, go to the front of the net, get good body position, score. Love it. He and Vey seemed to have some good chemistry in the offensive zone.

Friesen jumped out at me as a guy who played really well, which I wasn't expecting. Throwing the body lots, good in the faceoff circle (in the few instances he was in there), making plays, and played quite well on all the lines he was on.

Dorsett's turnover resulting in the Marleau goal was something I really hope we don't see from him in the regular season. Job #1 of a 4th liner is to not get scored on. High percentage plays. Cross-ice passes in the neutral zone with a 40-goal-scorer bearing down on you is a good way to get your ass stapled to the bench. Overall, I was expecting him to be faster and more physical, so I was a little disappointed. But it's early in pre-season, so obviously nothing to be worried about yet.

Sedins and Vrbata ... Too much passing ... Not enough good opportunities. Looked pretty good together, though. Lots of offensive zone time.

Lack was solid, Cannata played a little too deep in his net. Would've liked to see him play another 6" out.

Hopefully Edler is okay.

Losing Stepan is brutal for NYR.. Brassard isn't a first line center but he is probably going to have to be one till Stepan is back, with the new contract (5 years, 5M per year) he signed over the offseason he has big expectations on him this year and Stepan being injured it only going to make those expectations even bigger.

It would sure help to have Brad Richards right now as JT Miller and Dominic Moore aren't top 6 centers.. but Richards for 6.6M :fuckthatshit:

Hopefully Nash can have a bounce back this season

I was reading that article about Horvat having to spend the whole year in juniors if he gets sent down...it's a pretty retarded rule. I hope he sticks around along with Shinkaruk.
Was also read how Desjardins was saying Dane Fox's skating needs improvement lol, looks like he's Utica bound soon.
How is it a retarded rule (more correctly, agreement)?

The CHL supplies the NHL with well over half of its employees and star players bring in the fans (and their money) in that league, too. Need money to operate.

The SHL and Liiga have similar agreements with the NHL as well (although theirs are a little less restrictive, requiring a one-time payment in exchange).

Fox's skating was suspect, but I'm more concerned with his defense. He looked completely lost in the defensive zone on Tuesday night. That said, I don't think anyone outside of CDC was actually expecting Fox to make the team this year. He has plenty of time to work on the deficiencies in his game and we already know he can score.

kassian looking like a liability out there. Lack is keeping the team in the game.

it was mentioned on the SN360 that gaudreau has a better chance than bennett of making the team. I am going to be quite interested to see what the team looks like after the final cuts. I honestly have no idea who will make it

from a player development perspective it's useless to have him spend an entire year in junior (can''t call him up even to the minors until junior season end)...it's always bothered me seeing top prospects stuck in juniors when the next step should be the minors.
He's peaked so it's pretty shitty being stuck with players that you're clearly a cut above.
But yes, when you put in a financial/economic standpoint it's not a stupid agreement.

keep in mind i'm pretty biased, i'd hate for good prospects to waste their time twiddling their thumbs in junior when they're good enough to be in the minors.

And Fox, yeah i expected him to be meh come camp and figured he'd end up in Utica but from what i've seen...he's pretty shitty. I guess being overage in junior really makes you look good.

Gaudreau will make the team. Flames GM has already come out and said he would be extremely surprised if Bennett made the team this year.

Dane Fox was a bit of a disappointment considering how well he was doing, granted, overager.

There are some rumblings over at canucksarmy suggesting that sending Horvat to Europe ala Jensen. Same arguments about how its a waste of a year to have him do nothing in the juniors.

Nylander probably makes the leafs before Horvat does for the canucks maybe because he played in SEL with adults

Came in to post that. Damn.

Do you guys think he'll get claimed? Only teams I can think of claim would probably be Devils or Jets.

He's a good goalie and I could see a team picking him up no questions asked.

There's a couple other goalies sitting unemployed. He could get picked up but I hope he doesn't.

Lots of potential if they properly coach him I think.
