A new candy store in Kelowna sells a bunch of stuff I thought wasn't made any more, and they even have "retro packs" with candies from the 60', 70's, 80's and 90's. So awesome!

Got drunk a few nights ago. Came home and randomly remembered this song. It came out during my late teens.

everybody's free to wear sunscreen - Baz Luhrmann - YouTube

Well over 10 years later, I've definitely experienced some of the content discussed in this song. Some good, some not so good. But the important thing is that stories have been told, shared and remembered.

And don't forget this!

I have such great memories from that Chuck E Cheeses in Burnaby/Coquitlam. X-men arcade game, The Michael Jackson game (Moon walker?), and the ball pit (probably was one of the best ones in the lower mainland).
http://www.arcade-museum.com/images/106/1062750371.jpg

I pumped so much money into this damn machine LOL ... I remember I was even sliding my own quarters in so that my friends can re-join the game after they die like a hundred times to the same boss and then we kept dying so many times that I ran out of money. Yes, all $5 of it lol. I had to run downstairs to where my mom was sitting by the castle thing where they were serving that cardboard pizza to beg for more money. She would lecture me like "You spent the $5 so fast already?" then by the time I ran back upstairs our 10 second "Continue" timer had expired ... :fuuuuu:

I'm pretty sure it was the people living in the area complaining about the noise the cars made. It only happened once a year, would it have killed them to plan a day out if they didn't want to hear it?

I was pretty young when it happened and I'm not sure if I ever went, but I know my parents did at some point and they said it was a blast. It's a shame it ended.

Lol, nothing's changed... the same fucking idiots complain about the BC Place lights ALL the time.

I absolutely can't stand people who move to the city and complain about light and noise. Shut the fuck up and move to a house in the boonies then where your closest neighbor is 2km away and it's totally dark at night. It's not like you didn't know those types of things exist in Downtown, IMO every downtown core has its fair share of "disruptions" that any normal person can eventually tune out...

...personally my "nostalgia" is missing a Vancouver where people weren't so entitled and didn't bitch and moan about every little insignificant thing that pervades their illusions of a happy life :rukidding:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/full-house-reunion-and-spinoff-fuller-house-confirmed-by-john-stamos-netflix-1.3041892

It's official. Netflix will be the home of a long-rumoured Full House reunion, followed by a spinoff of the beloved 1990s sitcom that will be called Fuller House.

John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse on the original ABC series, broke the news Monday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Netflix also confirmed details in a news release.

"We've been working on this for many, many years," Stamos told the late-night host. "It starts as a reunion and then spins off into this — like a spinoff," the actor explained.
Plot is 'sort of a reversal'

The original sitcom centred on the foibles of three grown men who were living together in San Francisco to raise three little girls.

Fuller House picks up with grown-up sisters Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J. Tanner (Candice Cameron-Bure) two decades later.

But this time, D.J. is a recently widowed pregnant mother of two.

Andrea Barber will reprise her role as the annoying but beloved family friend Kimmy Gibbler.

Like the original, the three women move in together to help raise D.J's kids — a similar plot to the original when D.J.'s and Stephanie's dad, Danny Tanner, played by Bob Saget, invite Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey, played by Dave Coulier, to move in with him.

"It's sort of a reversal," described Stamos, who is producing the 13-episode series, and will guest star as the hair-obsessed Uncle Jesse.

Talks are underway to have Saget, Coulier and other original stars, such as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who alternated in the role of Michelle, the youngest of the three Tanner children, and Lori Loughlin, who played Uncle Jesse's wife, make guest appearances.

"We're going to try and to get everybody in the first hour special." said Stamos, "and then it'll go into the spinoff."

Created by original Full House creator Jeff Franklin, Fuller House will premiere on Netflix in 2016.

Full House attracted a loyal legion of fans, many of whom grew up with the comedy over its eight seasons.

A total of 192 episodes aired during its run from 1987 to 1995 on ABC in the U.S.

"The love you saw on the show was real," executive producers Robert L. Boyett, Thomas L. Miller and Jeff Franklin said in a joint statement.

"The cast has remained a loving family off screen all these years. We are as excited as our fans to finally bring Full House back to life."

Fuller House is just the latest in string of television reboots.

Coach, The Muppet Show and Inspector Gadget are all being developed for a return to the small-screen as networks attempt to bank on viewers' nostalgia.

Cult crime drama Twin Peaks is being revived for Showtime, even after co-creator David Lynch dropped out of the project.

ABC is said to be working on a TV adaptation of John Hughes's Uncle Buck and Disney is revisiting the cartoon DuckTales.

X-Files fans rejoiced upon learning the popular paranormal drama is making a come back after 13 years off the air.

When asked about the sheer volume of '90s TV remakes, X-Files creator Chris Carter told The Daily Beast even he was skeptical.

"The cynical part of me says this is programming by feather duster," said Carter.

"The other part of me says that if something is good, that doesn't necessarily mean its over. It's not just sitting on the shelf gathering dust, it's actually accruing value."

A few summers ago I helped the old lady down the street pick out all the weeds from her front yard and on the floor of her shed she had a few cans of Woodward's branded motor oil. Woodward's was before my time but I'm kinda fascinated by its history and it was cool to see stuff like that lying around.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but did anyone else see the Eaton's lettering at Lansdowne Mall years after it closed? I'm not sure if it remained after the Target overhaul but it was definitely there when it was a Zellers. I only just barely remember Eaton's so it was kinda weird seeing the outline of the letters there that long afterward. On a related note I'm pretty sure we still have some Eaton's clothes hangers in our closet.

I'm not sure what it is but failed department stores really interest me. Maybe it's just how physically large they can be that makes me interested in how they fail. I don't know, it's just a weird obsession of mine.

Happy anniversary to Expo 86!

It started on May 2nd and ended Oct. 13th

ExpoMuseum / Expo '86, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (http://www.expomuseum.com/1986/)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/mytravelphotos/sets/72157594383237028/

I remember most of it especially Highway 86!

From: Alisonsky (http://www.alisonsky.com/html_files/web_album/web_album_finished/pages/highway86.htm)

This participatory work, an integration of public art, landscape and public space built at Expo 86, was an award winning competition design for the entry processional and pavilion of transportation and communication. The four lane concrete highway rises out of the sea, undulates along the land and breaks off, ending in mid air between two major city highway viaducts and culminating with an automobile soaring to the sky. Its cantilevered undulations contain clear spans of up to 112 feet long and 39 feet high. The entire surface of the highway is covered with 200 air, land and sea vehicles, which include jogging shoes, skate boards, bicycles, motorcycles, boats, cars, trucks, planes, helicopter, submarine, space capsule and lunar rover, among others. Haunted and surreal when empty, the highway is transformed and animated by people.

Location: 1986 World Exposition, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Materials: concrete, steel, 200 vehicles (air, land + sea), paint
Dimensions: highway: 60 ft. H x 712 ft. W x 40 ft. D vehicles: life size

Sounded great on my 2 x 10" subs with Kenwood hideaway deck, Alpine Amp & Speakers as I roamed random suburbs. While others preferred blasting ATB or D.R.E, I went straight for WTF. The looks on people's faces could not be duplicated

Happy 20th anniversary to the N64!

It launched on September 29th, 1996 in North America

I remember being amazed and blown away the first time I saw Mario 64. My brother and I rented a console with Mario and Pilotwings 64 from a Rogers Video store. I didn't sleep because it was such a blast to play these games with a whole new perspective on gaming.

The day we rented it was also the first time I ever had Poutine. It was from Burger King. It looked like vomit covered organ meats and I was scared to eat it but the first bite turned that around for life. So, yes I've been eating Poutine for 20 years, too.

I don't think I ever have (or will) experience happiness on that level again.

I had a similar experience like that. My aunt & uncle didn't have kids, so they treated me like their own. They'd always take me out for dinner, movies, vacations etc. I kept asking my parents for an N64 but they said it was too expensive, so I just settled on the fact that I wasn't going to get it.

We had a Christmas dinner at our place and my aunt/uncle show up with this massive wrapped up box. I'm thinking it's some sort of awesome action figure toy set, so I was pretty damn happy (boys love their action figures, yo). We finish dinner and we all go to the tree to unwrap the presents and I'll always remember the amount of shock, excitement, and happiness that was had when I opened it to reveal this:

wow reading this story made me feel super old expect I had the same experience but with the original Nintendo..

It was xmas morning of 91-92 I think it was and my parents and sister and I were opening up gifts. I was so happy because my aunt mailed me some upper deck hockey cards and I got two Eric Lindros team Canada cards in a single pack. Gifts were done and there was one untagged box left under the tree. My parents told me to open it (I remember them saying its probably a toaster haha) well I opened it and saw it was Nintendo and I straight up went crazy. I think the surprise made it the best part and I so can't wait to have kids so I can do the same thing

I had a similar experience with the NES, but because I was super young at the time, I didn't have that same appreciation you all had for yours. Also because my aunts and uncles knew my mom despises video games, they all said it was just something they wanted to keep at grandparents' house (at the time only my dad had married and moved out). I was always over at the grandparents' because parents were working, so essentially I was playing on it once I was out of class.

And then one year during another Christmas, I opened up a second console... Sega genesis. Oh man, that Sonic was my best friend for many years. They even bought the full menacer set for it! A lot of people won't know or remember what that is heh. And then came nba '94 and nba jam!

To this day I remember having to go to my buddies place to play it for the first time as it had RCA attachments, as opposed to the coaxle hookup. The thing I remember most is horror movies. During summer holidays my mom would take me to the video store almost everyday after she got home from work, I'd go rent a bunch of horror movies to watch and keep me busy well she's at work the next day.

I also remember a place called Acme Video where they had a popcorn machine and a fountain drink machine where you could help yourself well browsing for movies. The same video store used to store there Porno movies in the open right next to the Wrestling Videos, I spent a lot of time browsing the wrestling section.

Thinking back, my dad used to leave playboys laying around the house. Who needed internet when you had a dad that didn't give a fuck if you found his nudies......the 80's was a good time.

http://www.mwctoys.com/images/review_motuc1_12.jpg

Those were not the original He-Man figures. The original stuff that I had were so supremely primitive -- the arm was only articulate at the single shoulder joint in a super primitive rotational joint. The legs were moulded as a single piece, with limited movement at the hip joint through some sort of elastic band / string.

Made no sense that I still bought a stock pile of them. Mom should have told me to go fxxk myself instead of buying them for me. :tears:

Not to mention there were like 2000 channels with seemingly no organization

Where I grew up we didn't have access to cable, but we did have one of these bad boys in our yard for a while

Unfortunately whatever the piracy method was, my parents didn't keep up with, so there were barely any channels to watch. I did watch a lot of The Box though. That's 90's though, not really nostalgic enough LUL

C-Band....man the memories...some american company came here and i think my folks paid a lot for the set-up....Galaxy 11,...ect...

i got to watch HBO,nickelodeon..all american shows when they didn't even broadcast to canada in the 90's..

Yup I got all those channels (along with Playboy and Spice :ifyouknow: ), until it was time to reflash the card and my parents didn't bother to do so. After that we could only get like 2 or 3 channels FeelsBadMan

Don't know if any of you guys played this game when you were younger but it was pretty fun for what it was lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9lgBLG119s

played this at friends' house during lunch hour in grade school

i thought the stage where you have to invert the dualshock controller was genius (i didn't play metal gear solid yet back then)

i didn't realize it was a Japan-exclusive...makes sense it was probably a cracked PSX system

Who remembers the Vancouver Sun/Province in the late 80s and 90s, when they had the weekend funnies in a separate booklet from the paper? I just remembered them, and I think there's a stack at my parents' house for me to find. I've searched online, but couldn't find any image references. They were awesome for on-the-can reading ;)

Everyone remembers Transformers, but Gobots were quite the rage in the early 80s too!

Oh man I remember having the Go Bots Command Center. I can't believe I thought this was cool. I wish I still had my Mask toys!

Yeah - a lot of parks had that during the summer for kids to play. They even held tourneys.

This memory just flashed into my thoughts out of nowhere after so many years.
Anyone ever play this two player game where you use a broken hockey stick and shoot a puck around inside a Foosball like box which lays on the ground and there are slots in between the goal nets to score???

Yup San Francisco, spent many hours there goofing around. There was also a copycat store called Hong Kong Imports but I don't know how many of those were around.

I remember buying Dick Tracy action figures there. They weren't really popular but they were some of my favourite toys.

Always loved this commercial for whatever reason. Part of it might have had to do with me playing the ghost of Christmas present for a school play. I specifically wanted to play the ghost of present because saying the word 'present' reminded me of well....presents!

As a result, I would always ask specifically for Honey Nut to eat on Christmas morning.

Too bad the cereal went from honey and real almonds to honey and 'natural almond flavour'.

donk.
