Get yourself a Nvidia Shield or an Amazon Fire TV, put Kodi, then install Spinz TV Lite build. All you basically need in one-box including Live TV, sports, TV shows, movies, etc.
As for internet, get Novus for condo/apt, Teksavvy for de-tached.

If it weren't for hockey, I'd have ditched cable altogether years ago.
I think it depends on what you qualify as tv. Some has specific channels they would like to have, while other just need the basic tv.
I ditched cable long ago. Just Internet and I can have subs to nba streaming for my sport need and then Netflix and YouTube for the rest of contents

Paying $70 a month right now with Shaw through a rep I found on RFD.
Shaw Personal TV, Internet 30, and home phone.
Six month promos, but he told me to email him during the fifth month to renew the promos.
Only need the internet, but my dad needs the sports and Chinese channels. Probably port the home phone number to his cell phone in a few months.

Right now I'm using TekSavvy internet 30 at $56 tax in and waiting for the skinny tv package that is mandated by the crtc be available by March 1 at $28 tax in. I wouldn't care about skinny tv but the local over-the-air signal can't reach where I'm at due to geography.

this is a really good deal. we have telus tv with sports package/chinese channels, internet 25 (unlimited bandwidth for now) and home phone for $85. everytime we renew our promo it goes up by like $5 but the last time it went up by $3. originally ours was around $70 and we renewed for about 2 years now.

The problem with these 6-month promos is that you need to keep switching providers every 6 months, otherwise you risk paying regular price (which is likely double what you're paying now). It's a huge hassle and inconvenience for most.
not really a HUGE hassle, but i think a few mins on the phone every 6 months is worth it to save a couple hundred dollars

then that means u'll have 6 months of service for the promo, then 6 months of no service while waiting to be eligible for another promo. OR u can do what everyone does, which is cxl the acct under ur name, start another new acct under someones name to be eligible for the same promo again. don worry u wont be the only one doing it this way, repeat every 6 months :troll:

In December we cancelled our Telus TV and now have Telus Internet 15 (150 GB , 15 mbps download) for about $65 tax in.
Cutting cable has been interesting. We watch more movies and surf the net. We are doing renovations on our old house so that keeps us busy!
Doing some research on TekSavvy this morning. Looks like it would be about $45 tax in for the same speed and 300 GB. (High Speed DSL 15) Just have to pay $75 activation plus $140 for a modem (shipped).

On Telus, I just call direct line to discontinue which sends me to retention and I ask what promo can they offer me. Sometimes its a 1 year contract. Some times it's a month to month promo that lasts for 6 months, etc.
Never have to change accounts cause it's not a promo specifically for new customers.
If you don't like what you hear, hang up and call back another day and get a different sales rep. Key is, you have to talk to someone at the retention line. Any other sales rep don't have authority to customize deals.
Make a post here (via RFD) for the RFD deal:

If you have any post secondary students in your family, Telus and Shaw have pretty good student deals. I'm currently with Telus paying $90 (pre tax) for internet 50, TV with the cantonese bundle (the only reason we still have TV) and home phone. The price is good for a year.

One thing I've learned from cutting the cord is that sports streaming (free) is usually poorer quality and spotty at best. Unless you're paying for streams from the leagues themselves, they will never be as good as what cable companies provide.
If you follow only one sport, you might be better off paying for a season of streaming. If you follow more than one team, you might just need to bite the bullet and keep that cable subscription if you care about quality and the ability to record. Fortunately, I only follow the Whitecaps these days, so I'm willing to pay for MLS Live which provides 720P feeds.
If you do cut the cord, you also need to select the appropriate hardware. I had an Amazon Fire TV with Kodi, but I find an HTPC much more capable for a variety of needs (Netflix, Kodi, Skype, etc.) I would personally recommend the HP Stream boxes.

yea streaming sports quality is shit compared to the cable version 98% of the time.
I even have a few different legit means of viewing them, NHL GameCenter, as well as using my parents ShawGo account to login for TSN/Sportsnet, and typically the streams are just brutal.
on top of that, purchased the new version of google chrome cast to try and stream to the living room TV approx 25 feet away through a wall, works like shit as well :/
oh well, the only thing i really care about getting pristine quality anymore is the triple crown races, so probably try and get back on a 6 month package when they roll around again

New hookup here.
Called in to order Shaw internet 60 for my new place. Originally $55/month for first 6 months plus a $60 first time installation fee. Internet is all I needed.
Got an upsell call 2 days later. Personal TV + 3 HD cable boxes, phone line, + waive the $60 first time installation fee.
No contract.
Total $85+tax.
Going to try out cable again and most likely cancel it within 6 months. Also going to shop around for better internet deals that will service my area with the 6 months promotional period.
So far, only Shaw and TekSavvy has internet for my place. TS is charging $85 for 60mbps.

Great - rogers / bell/ telus / shaw etc are going to be raising their rates on phones/internet/tv. . . FUCKERS!
Wireless rates rise with hikes in internet, home phone ahead
Telcos blame low dollar and high cost of building networks for price increases

Brace for higher telecom costs 5:38
5181 shares
Bell, Rogers and Telus customers should get set for rate hikes.
The three largest telecommunications companies have raised or plan to raise the prices of their wireless packages in January, and are warning of increases to home phone and internet prices in February.
Telus will be tacking on $5 to its Smartphone and Premium Smartphone tiers beginning Thursday.
CRTC wireless code now applies to all customers: What you need to know
$25 basic cable package must be in place by March 1
Cellphone
New customers of Bell and Rogers are paying more, and Telus customers will soon get bigger bills for their telecommunications services. (Antionio Guillem/Fotolia)
The change affects new customers buying phones — including Apple and Android devices — through Telus.
Rogers increased the cost of its Share Everything plans with 5GB, 9GB or 15GB of data by $5 a month on Jan. 12.
Bell also announced price increases effective Jan. 12, an additional $5 for both Lite and Plus Share plans, with increases of $3 to $8 for Mobile TV.
Together, Rogers, Telus and Bell control 89 per cent of the wireless telecom market in Canada.
Blame the low dollar
Telus told CBC News the low Canadian dollar is pushing up the price of new equipment to build out its networks.
"The modest wireless rate plan increase reflects increasing costs for network components resulting from a weaker Canadian dollar, as well as the annual multibillion-dollar investments required to keep up with the growing demand for wireless data. The change applies only to new contracts and renewals, so existing customers won't notice a change to their monthly bills," said a Telus spokeswoman.
Bell said it spends $3 billion annually to expand its broadband networks, but that most equipment comes from suppliers who charge U.S. dollars.
"The massive and ongoing investment required to build world class infrastructure is coming at a significantly higher cost due to the weak dollar," a company spokesman said in an email.
All three telcos also plan to weaken the attraction for bring-your-own-device plans by raising the price of base service.
Not much competition
According to MobileSyrup's Daniel Bader, the telcos are finding average revenue per user is dropping as people adopt more all-inclusive plans, including long distance and unlimited roaming, prompting price increases for some options.
Canadian networks are powerful and fast, but we pay some of the highest prices in the world, Bader told CBC's The Exchange.
"Unfortunately what we have in Canada is a situation where in some provinces, specifically Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta, most of the wireless subscribers are held by Rogers, Bell and Telus," he said.
Bader says he hopes that Shaw, which recently bought Wind Mobile, will introduce more competition by rolling out LTE service and creating a fourth carrier in underserved provinces.
Cost of internet, TV to rise
At the same time, the cost of residential service is rising.
Both Bell and Telus have announced price increases effective Feb. 1 on home phone, and internet and TV packages.
"Price adjustments support our continued investments in network, product and service enhancements," Bell said in a statement.
Rogers has already raised internet prices and plans to boost the cost of TV packages later in February.
In March, cable and satellite companies must introduce a $25 "basic" package and offer consumers either a choice of individual channels or small bundles of channels.

Are you really surprised? Especially when ALL THREE announce AT THE SAME TIME that they are jacking up prices? Can't be anymore evident that they are all in bed together.
When CRTC stepped in to regulate basic cable pricing, it was quite evident that they would jack up prices somewhere to make up for the shortfall.
The only way we can turn this thing around is to abandon the CRTC and open up the market for foreign investment with real competition.

yup. but i dont see it happening anytime soon unfortunately. . ..
CRTC not doing their job. This is cartel, monopolistic behaviour. They should be imposing penalities/restrictions.
Hopefully Shaw will make it more competitive now that they have purchased Wind, but I doubt it.

I agree, no real change will happen and Shaw will make little difference as well.
I had been looking around to shop for a new standalone internet package for my parents too. They are on the old Shaw 10Mbps plan, and don't have much else signed up with Shaw, so Shaw doesn't seem to care about them cancelling.
Checking other cable internet wholesalers, the prices are quite competitive between TekSavvy, LightSpeed, CIK, VMedia, etc. depending on what speeds you need. Just be sure to factor in the activation/installation/cable move fees.
From what I've read, customer service could be a potential problem with these smaller companies though, so I'm still deciding on which to choose.

Funny how they want to charge us because of the low dollar. If/when the dollar goes up again, would they remove the additional costs? Hell no they won't. Whether our dollar goes up or down, the price increases will always come, this just made is easier to justify

Get an unlimited internet plan. I think Telus charges like $10-$15 more per month for no internet cap. Also be prepared that those repositories with the streams do occasionally die and sometimes won't work for days.

Do you still need a VPN/proxy to download copyrighted content from newsgroups?
MikeyStyle
01-27-2016, 07:17 PM
never had that need for it. i just ensure that i'm connecting to a ssl server
been using newsgroups for the +5 years and haven't had any issues. only major downside is that you have to pay for access to a quality server. totally worth the money in my opinion as i also use it for music and programs
once you have it all automated, it's great. mine is set to search the internet every 30 minutes for television shows and every hour for movies. once the content has been downloaded, i get an email notification my phone telling it's done
Do you still need a VPN/proxy to download copyrighted content from newsgroups?
Sign up with a usenet server that provides SSL encryption with your monthly service and you're golden.
I have mine configured on my desktop so Sonarr searches for my queued up TV shows every 15 minutes. Sonarr automatically downloads the TV show's .nzb file (equivalent to .torrent file) once the show is released and has reached my usenet server. Once Sonarr downloads the .nzb file, it automatically sends it over to SABnzbd, where it downloads the actual file. I also have it configured so that all my TV shows automatically unrar (if needed) and get moved onto my multimedia drive where the TV shows are organized by name and season.
The "hardest" part about all of this is the initial setup of linking both programs to each other and adding in the TV shows you want. Everything else after that is 100% automated. You can come home after being away on a month long vacation and Sonarr will automatically find which episodes you're missing and create a backlog and download all of them.
Yeah, you need to pay a monthly fee for access to a quality usenet server, but you're probably paying for a VPN if you're using torrents anyways. I'd rather be able to max out my encrypted internet connection then deal with fluctuating torrent speeds and the need to upload to save my ratio. Fuck that shit :lol

Try using the EU servers, but still, I've noticed lots of incomplete files with them at certain times. They seem to blame other providers for sending them incomplete files though. I have a second block account with newsgroupdirect which is on a different provider which I use as my backup when Astraweb is incomplete.
I would have ditched Astraweb a long time ago if they hadn't screwed up their billing and stopped charging me for service since 2010.

Also, which usenet services do you guys recommend?
As I understand, Usenet is only good for new media content. How is it for older shows/movies? like 90's stuff?
That's definitely true. It's all dependent on your providers retention. Most of the major ones are claiming about 1000 days retention.
It might not be so good for older stuff unless it's pretty mainstream.
1000 days retention is low. I'm on Supernews and their binary retention is 2357 days. That's almost 6.5 years of file retention provided it hasn't been DMCA'd

Was on Telus for 2 year internet/TV bundle.
Called to cancel, letting them know I only need internet. They offered Internet 25 @ $30/month x 3 months. I've called in every 3 months for the last year to renew the same deal until today.
They were unable to continue at $30/month but offered $40/month for 3 months. It was reasonable given all the rates have increased.
Will be looking into Teksavvy after these 3 months.

To get what? $5 off for every service I have? $15 off a $200 cable bill.... if it was a tip, that would be 7% and the serving staff would be shitting bricks as to how cheap the diner was.

If you got the scoop on "better deal" why don't you share it? Cuz Shaw really doesn't give af about their customers outside of the downtown core.
At least if you are going to come into a forum and advertise your services, make yourself valuable, not just a product pusher.
I think Shaw is a joke as far as their retention goes.
I was under the student plan because of wife's status, when it came to an end, we inquired about any deal. They flat out refused to do anything and just said we should start paying more than double the promo price even when I said I'd switch since the regular price is ridiculous.
Then I switched to Lightspeed and when I called Shaw to cancel the account, they came up with all sort of excuse saying that we shouldn't be with the smaller guys and they were willing to work on a deal.
I just told the guy to let their manager knows that they should do this earlier and not play the tough guy just trying to milk me for a few months (I mentioned I was going away and would disconnect it for a few months) and I would simply continue using LS because they lost me forever when they didn't even bother to keep me as customer.

I stopped being a Shaw tv and internet customer after they kept increasing the price of the services every 3 months or so. The deals they give is a joke and is only for 6 months. Maybe they need to stop paying their employees so much because it seems like most of them is always on vacations. But as a shareholder they are awesome. The monthly dividends they give me, I use it to pay for my internet with LightSpeed

My Shaw promo is over in a week and I'm looking at what's new aswell.
Come July I'll pay the full price, yet they've already put on a $15 discount yet that doesn't really make much of a difference..
The "SkinnyTV" isn't really much of anything too spectacular either, sooo any suggestions?
Currently with Shaw, Popular TV & Internet 30. Living in New West.

I saw Telus running cable a few weeks ago in my back alley. Does anyone use Telus Fibre and can comment on their pricing? Their site is pretty elusive on giving pricing details.

50Mbps/10, Broadband standalone is $83 ($78 bundle)
100Mbps/20, Fibre standalone is $93 ($88 bundle)
150 Mbps/30, Fibre $125/month??
I just did a web chat with Telus rep and asked about this, [...] He said it's $125/month with 600GB cap, which is quite a bump in price from Internet 100 if you ask me (previous tiers are only $5 or $10 higher than the previous tier).

I am about to renew my internet as my honeymoon period (1st year introduction is free) is about to end. I am resided in townhouse complex in Delta.
Telus and Shaw knocked at my door asking for $70 for a 15M plan. Any plan that is well below $40 as I stream a bit and rarely torrent, so capacity under 150GB is fine.
Would like to see what my option is.
Telus installed fibre in my building 2 weeks ago and they're still telling me it's not available in my area. :fuuuuu:
We get a 30% employee discount through Telus (but not Shaw, current provider) and Telus offers the usual bundle discounts, so I'd love to switch my TV and internet over to Telus.

the best "deal" i ever felt like i got from Shaw was they "doubled" my internet speed for an extra $10 a month about 8 months ago, no contract etc.
went from broad band 30, to some sort of BB65 package (so slightly more than double)
and speeds actually reflect what they advertise.
Currently have the shaw "Basic" TV with sports packages cause i wanted to watch horse racing and NHL playoffs and it's an absolute joke, $44 a month for basically SNET and TSN, dont get much else with it.

Saw this on RFD today. Seems like a good deal since this is pretty much what I pay for Internet 30 outside of the promo period. I think this is what guurl is referring to?
I may look into this since it'll be a huge jump in speed for not a whole lot of additional cost.

How do you find their service? Been wanting to try them but their main site has been down for a better part of a month and doesn't look to be taking any new subscribers at the moment. That in itself doesn't sound very reassuring, but forums and Reddit seem to say that they're one of the more reliable providers out there.
They're the only IPTV providers that I can find that have the Fairchild Canto channels which is really the only TV the family watches anyways.

Wish I did this sooner. It's about the same price shaw and Telus but customer experience so far is much better, handling your online account is like night and day difference and how your tv box functions is way smother. The options on your cable box how you can customize everything it's like i have gone into the future with Telus.

Get both services in your house to overlap so you can compare apples with apples. Go with the one that is quickest (obviously).
These days your own router can be a bottleneck too, especially if you run a VPN. Even an i3 that is 3-4 years old will outrun most routers. I repurpose some old servers retired from work (no fans of course). Laptops with ExpressCard slots can do that same job too. I use PfSense, but Sophos makes a free one that also include their Virus scanning software (https://www.sophos.com/en/products/free-tools/sophos-utm-home-edition.aspx) built in. Which is useful especially if you get guests who bring in devices that are rooted with apps side loaded and god knows what had been done with them.

Yep, current customers can get on it too. 79.90 year 1 and 2 for current customers. You can pick internet or internet+tv contract. Be specific when you do cause they might sign you up for both incase you only wanted the internet contract.

Just phoned into Telus Retention to try to match it. Rep stated that Shaw offering 150 could be a pipe dream as the fine details do state "up to 150mbps".
Got offered Telus 50 w/ Optik 4K box ($45 a month) for a year.
All in, Optik TV, internet, and home phone for 100+ tax isnt bad. After a year it does go up to regular pricing but its still cheaper than what were paying now for Telus 25 bundle which is around $190 a month.

That's a pretty bold statement for them to make. I'm on Internet30 right now and I can consistently get 4MB/s (which is 32Mb/s) on Shaw. Telus likes to throw out the node over saturation as a downside, but I have to admit, they've made huge strides from when I was last with Shaw 5 years ago and my Internet was pretty much unusable in the evenings.
There's other aspects of Shaw that bug me though - which is why I'm waiting for Telus Fibre to make it's appearance in my area in August before I decide to jump on the Internet150 bandwagon and lock myself in to a 2 year contract with Shaw.

Moving into the a condo for the first time later this year. Is there usually a "preferred" ISP that each building uses? I emailed the strata agent and he said "Telus should be a good bet" which basically tells me nothing.
I was hoping that the building would be setup with Novus but no dice.
Do I just call any company (Shaw/Telus) and have them come in and hook it up?
I probably won't be getting any TV/Phone package unless there is a super sweet deal.
I only need internet, and not too fussy on cap or speed as I mostly just YouTube and play some games here and there. No hardcore downloading/uploading (maybe 1 movie a month).
I prefer consistency and reliability over high speeds. I don't want to be lagging out mid-game cuz internet craps out.
The building is by Yukon and W. 2nd, what do you guys suggest I do?

Shaws pipeline is way bigger than you think. Offering 150 to everyone isn't hitting anywhere close to saturation nowdays.
The same pipeline will also be used for the next X1 system from Comcast for retreiving your TV contents off cloud.

I've used both in the last 2 years and they're pretty much the same from an end users point. This may be cause of the neighborhood I'm in but not much congestion between the two. When I did have problems they were both able to get an appointment within the week. Had my modems swapped a few times just cause I wanted the newest ones.
I do work at Shaw now which is why I've used both. I know ours has a slightly higher ping than Telus sometimes, but its within single digit difference. If you need more info on what Shaw has let me know.

Thought I posted in here about Shaw 150 and what I learned through a service tech giving me a visit.
Apparently to get the full potential of 150, you need to be on 5g. 2.4g will keep you around 25-30mbps, the guy said it's because they take "6-2.4g lines and bridge them all" to create 5g. Have this problem on my laptop as it being older doesn't support the new 5g, thus I need to run a usb 5g adapter or run wired.
Did check with a speedtest, and wired I do hit 165mbps down and around 16mbps up.

Hmmm first lady said you can watch 4k on all tv's with just the regular box, which doesn't make sense at all.
Now the lady says they can only provide one 4k box, even if i wanted to purchase a second box, anyone have any luck getting 2 4k boxes?

Supposedly, you can only have 1 PVR box per network. Currently, only the new 4k PVR supports 4K. There are no other receivers from Telus that support 4k.
I guess you're only allowed 1 for now.
Hang on, you have multiple 4k capable TVs/Monitors? Baller...

So I called not expecting to really get much because when I signed 2 year contact 6 months ago I opted for the $300 gift card instead.
At first I was offered $50 for internet 100 (150 not available yet) but then of course a message came up saying I wasn't eligible because I opted for the gift but still ended up getting my unlimited internet free for a year. $15 saved/month is still $15 saved so can't complain.

Just talked to chick at Telus booth at the PNE. Looks like better deal than I have right now with Shaw. Only two issues I have is losing my e-mail address and Shaw Open. Does Telus have something similar?
My other option is to pay Shaw 2 bucks a month to keep my e-mail address and Shaw Open (I'm assuming Shaw Open is attached to my e-mail address.).
Just sick and tired of Shaw poor signal and service. Mind you, I used to be with Telus at one point. Am I jumping from the fry pan into the fire, again?

Wait, I don't care about the Shaw email...but you can pay $2/month for Shaw Open???!
Telus have it's own public WiFi, but it's no way as extensive or even a fraction of Shaw's. You don't even need to be a Telus customer for those. Just go into login page and type aweurhawier@weroweirjwe.co, agree and it connects. I have yet to see a #TELUSDirect spot in Vancouver.

I bit the bullet and bought 2 4k tvs since i wall mounted both i thought spend little more now and save having to replace in a few years :alone:
For now there is only one 4k capable Pvr box so only one of your tvs will get it. They do not allow two pvrs on one account anymore it just defeats the whole purpose of whole home Pvr.
In the future I am sure they will have a regular 4K box aka non Pvr
Keep in mind folks 4K stream takes 20ish mbps so depending on what kind of service you are on the streams will be limited. On fiber you are set for life lol

Shaw's emails and Go Wifi access is tied to active internet services I believe. Not sure where you heard the $2 quote from cause I haven't heard of it before.

just a FYI, the bandwidth u use on shaw go wifi is tied to ur home internet's bandwidth amount, so u definitely need an active internet service at home to access shaw go wifi.
as for email, u can transfer it to a friend's account with active shaw internet services so u can keep the email alive... which also means u can use their shaw go wifi account LOL, but again if u do a lot of downloading on shaw go wifi u eat up their monthly bandwidth as well...

You are only allowed to have 1 PVR box in a home under the same account/network. If you order a 4K PVR box, it will replace your current PVR. All other receivers remain the same. So technically, you can only hookup and watch 4K content on 1 TV at a time.

Guys... There is no $2/month for shaw open access, again it possible for email but for shaw open it needs to be tied to an active home internet account
Well, looks like I get to keep my email address and Shaw Go WiFi after all.
I told them about talking to the Telus folks at the PNE and told them what they quoted me. "What are you people going to do to keep me as a loyal customer?"
To keep a long story short, I got Shaw 150, Gateway, a whole whack of channels, including Asian TV, two phone lines, with one year free Asian TV, and $10.00 of a month for one year. Two year contract. The total came out way less than what I pay now, even after the one year freebies run out. 8 times faster Internet with 1TB limit. Way more than I need, but my kids will be happy.
Thank you, Telus, for making me get a better deal with Shaw.
I love healthy competition.
Thanks, good people of RS, as well.
I get asked about shaw go and telus public wifi all the time. WHY OH WHY do people care so much for this useless service IMO my experience with both are they stop all data on my phone. yes it works in a sweet spot so like 25% of the time. I rather stay on LTE/3G cellular data *rant finished*
whatever floats your boat..............
we're all happy for you
god bless
also, it helps to have it when you're in a building where cell penetration is zero.
Just installed the modem. Speed test on wifi connection 174.42 download, but only 14.76 upload.
Not bad compared to previous 25 down and 1.6 up, LOL.

Should have tried going through retentions team. (or what I did was sign up with Telus and they'll send them a cancellation notice and they'll call you a few days before your install date and try get you back)
They gave me the intro pricing ($49 for first year and $79 second year) and upgraded my receivers to the gateway PVR which they were going to charge me $100 install fee for when I asked about it previously)

I just got mine yesterday and don't like it either. UI sucks as you mentioned. Why the hell do you have to press left arrow to go back on some screens, and then the back button on others? The remote is not very intuitive either, and I've noticed the picture quality is worse than the old Arris 3510-M boxes. Still wondering if I can get them to put the old boxes back in and just have them as independent DVRs.

yeah, woke up this morning with almost no throughput on my shaw 50 speed. I had a few channels say off broadcast on my gateway system in the last two days, but it didn't reoccur. I phoned in after doing all resets on my system and getting same results of next to nothing bandwidth. I haven't changed any new hardware since it was installed last year. I have an X8 Netgear in line with a Rogers home security nether router on same unit .I was instantly told by tech I would have to go change my modem out to a straight modem only and that if I wanted someone to look at my system it would cost $100. I barked over this and just went straight to retentions. The fellow initiated a reset by setting it to bridge mode and then we went back to default and it started to operate correctly. In the meantime I was offered $25 cheaper shaw open 150 , with an extra discount of $10 for 12 months for the hassle. It was two hrs of resetting and playing but I ended up with a better deal and 176 kbps from 64 (16 this morning). I am thankful for the retention fellow (Josh)for helping me through my original rantings and keeping me as a customer. Its nice to know that some people can actually do their job and set things right.
how exactly do you get in contact with retentions just ask to be transferred when connected with a CSR? i tried on chat to ask about cancelling and stuff and the agent never bothered transferring me to anyone and just kept talking to me.

When you call into cancel your account , the CSR , will usually transfer you to the Loyalty Dept . At the time , you can talk to them about your account .

Fucking Gateway PVR. I've never used anything so unintuitive........ who the hell designs this shit?
I went from three Motorola PVRs, which were very easy to use to this useless POS.
The user interface is so unnatural.
It must have been designed by some 40 year old virgin.............
Anyway, it is what it is. As long as I can record Walking Dead and the odd Blue Jays games here and there, I'll survive.
The reason why their UI suck is because cable guide (the guild form your old HD PVR) bought the right to the way how the guide looks. So basically if anyone use something that looks like the same (like how apple sue samsung for making a phone that have the same shape). Basically if Shaw make the guide in square cable guide can sue them.
So Shaw have to redo the whole UI to make it look different.

Best deal right now for new customer?
Net150 $49 for first year and 2nd year $89.00. 2 year contract. Is such a good deal. Telus have something like that as well. Novus offer Net100 at $49 for one year no contract so after one year you have to call back and see what they can offer. Is hard to tell you anything more since there haven't been anything like this out in the market before.

the Motorola DCX 3200/3510-M r the only guides made by shaw in house. The old version of the Motorola guide and the current Arris guides are made by the vendor themselves.

And the reason they made them in house is to avoid paying cable guide. Is an old and stupid system. I actually like Telus TV guide is nice and clean. Shaw's gateway system just confuse out of me lol. But I guess is better than nothing.
BTW the old guide is not in HD. I had someone call in to complain @@

I has. Urbanfibre for 80/month. No tv service though they have an IPTV service rumoured to be in beta.
I'm not aware of any residential gigabit companies that also have tv service. Maybe Novus?

I still run all 3 services through shaw, internet, cable and phone. As soon as I get my kid a phone (probably next couple weeks) I'm cancelling my cable and home phone. With Android boxes, Netflix and downloading TV Shows and movies Cable is obsolete even more so now that DAZN has bought the rights to Stream the NFL in Canada and it's cheap as fuck compared to what Shaw was charging.

only reason why i keep cable is because of live spots and Jeopardy
If somthing like DAZN can pick up all or most of live sports i'd probably drop it.
I've exhausted all options in terms of trying to stream live sporting events, it's just never good enough

I'm moving in a couple months and I'm realistically looking at not getting cable at all. The only thing I would want it for is Sports specifically hockey. All the rest I can get via my usual methods of downloading, youtube etc.
What are my best options for watching Canucks games without cable, or is that not even an option?

Don't get your hopes up for DAZN for picking up steaming hockey. NHL might stupid but they know how to make money and steaming revenue doesn't come close to having on cable now.

I had center ice a few years in a row through my Rogers share everything plan, however, center ice blacks out regional games..really useful, unless you're a huge fan of a team outside of where you live it's virtually useless.
I even used a VPN in order to change my regional viewing but outside of watching it from my hardwired PC, casting it to a TV or through Apple TV etc was useless, so choppy and shitty I couldn't even watch and that's with internet 150 and a great connection throughout my old place.

Rogers owns broadcasting rights within Canada till like 2024 so it's never going to happen regardless

Sportsnet Now works quite well (using my cable account). It's not cheap, and at that price you might be better off paying a bit extra for cable.

Novus will be offering their services in my building soon :fuckyea:
Currently on a 1-year new subscription plan with Telus, but upgraded to the 150/150 plan for about $20/mo. Hopefully by the time that's over I can switch over!
